Merry Christmas TOO ALL. Bless the soldiers on both sides, for they showed that even for 1 day of the year during war, that they could lay down their arms and celebrate together on the fronts as neighbors, not enemies.
Fact: A truce right before Christmas had also happened in WW2, right before the Battle of The Bulge, where many were spared because of friends in enemy lines. The truce was ordered by Lieutenant General Lukas Heinrich Kara (who was actually part of the Allied at the time) to another German Officer, who shall not be named. In which, only Lukas among the soldiers among the truce kept fighting WW2 until it ended, sparing and saving lives from both sides alike. Lukas died in 1962 finishing his own Christmas letter to all survivng German Soldiers of WW2 by a mistaken Russian Sniper. This is what Lukas had written; [ENGLISH] "Near this Christmas, I had ordered a truce that lasted only a few hours. It atleast spared alot of us from a certain death as I shook the hand of Captain Dieter Jansen. We all pointed our weapons to our officers who told us to keep fighting. We all exchanged our possessions as some officers even traded German Weapons with Allied Weapons. I'm finishing this letter right now in 1962 on the Berlin wall. I know that everybody who participated in the truce had survived the rest of the war, but I still think that I won't see them ever again in my lifetime. - LG Lukas H. Kara "
You forgot to mention 'troop rotation". although it was several months into the war, soldiers would rotate between the front and backlines to prevent battle fatigue. There is even evidence that soldiers of this peaceful christmas never even seen thier buddies shot nor killed since they only seen artilary and dead on the feilds.

@@augth True, but maybe through a land exchange treaty or something (perhaps Germany could have been given another colony in Africa). This was the biggest waste of life AND money of any war I know. Heck, the only reason America joined is because Germany wouldn't stop attacking our shipping with U-Boats (and done the Zimmerman Telegram). If the Germans hadn't panicked or been so overly aggressive, we probably never join in.
Im going to ruin it now for anyone else that watches it, the next year, I beleive it was some British troops tried recreating it, and. . . were shot down.
Germans: we want peace, please...? German officers: yea, go march in their way without weapons, hands up and play some games Allies: huh, that's weird they are marching toward without rifles. Allied Officers: meh, a trick maybe. Allies: nah, no guns there Germans: merry christmas bois! ya wanna play football? Allied Officers: meh, okay Allies: sure why not? Germans: cmon lets sing and play! Allies: yea this war is useless! Ottomans: i'm sad i can't join Germans: bring a few troops we don't care Ottomans: yay, but not my religion and i sitll don't care! All: *singing and playing football as well* Me: and that was the story of the 1914 christmas truce...imagine if the battlefield 1 servers did this hahah
This is really sad. It just shows that they are all real people, with feelings, and they never wanted to kill anyone, they just wanted to live. But instead, they were forced into something they didn’t want to be apart of.
Religion be always in our soul because it created the Christmas spirit... If you're an atheist, christmas is empty and nothing because you don't even believe the existence of Jesus.
This proves that we don't need war to further our goals. This event proves that two greatest enemies can become friends even for a day. Merry Christmas 2017!

Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Merry Christmas TOO ALL. Bless the soldiers on both sides, for they showed that even for 1 day of the year during war, that they could lay down their arms and celebrate together on the fronts as neighbors, not enemies.
Great video and merry Christmas!
I knew about this truce even before watching this video. And still it made me cry tears of happiness. Well done and thanks.
This is what Lukas had written;
[ENGLISH] "Near this Christmas, I had ordered a truce that lasted only a few hours. Kara"
- LG Lukas H. Kara "
Best of best WW1 stories i've ever heard
Stille Nacht heilige Nacht
Too right m8

Silent night, Holy night , all is calm, all is bright
Ja, Kumpel
The perfect time to watch this. Merry Christmas guys!
Damn im watching this in December 25th 2024 it's the 110 anniversary 🎁🎁🇩🇪🇫🇷🇬🇧
I cannot believe it myself. It was a beautiful moment in history that still rings today. ❤ Happy Holidays.
It was so beautiful i almost cried happy Christmas everybody!
You forgot to mention 'troop rotation". although it was several months into the war, soldiers would rotate between the front and backlines to prevent battle fatigue. There is even evidence that soldiers of this peaceful christmas never even seen thier buddies shot nor killed since they only seen artilary and dead on the feilds.
incredibly heartwarming. i don't think this would ever happen in the modern era, everyone is so out of touch with their humanity but this gives me hope that someday the world will come together even if for a brief moment.
this is amazing we learnt this in school I couldn't found the one we watched in school but this is better
Today marks the 2 year anniversary since the video was uploaded, Happy Anniversary and Merry Christmas Simple History.
This will be the song for Sabaton upcoming album The War to End All Wars
I can’t wait to show this video to my students tomorrow. Thanks Simple History. You guys are the law!
Silence
Oh, I remember the silence
On a cold winter day
After many months on the battlefield
And we were used to the violence
Then all the cannons went silent
And the snow fell
Voices sang to me from no man's land
We are all
We are all
We are all
We are all friends!
And today we're all brothers
Tonight we're all friends
A moment of peace in a war that never ends
Today we're all brothers
We drink and unite
Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white
Hear carols from the trenches
We sing O Holy Night
Our guns laid to rest among snowflakes
A Christmas in the trenches
A Christmas on the front far from home
Madness (madness)
Oh, I remember the sadness
(Sadness)
We were hiding our tears
(Hiding our tears)
In a foreign land where we faced our fears
(Faced our fears)
We were soldiers
(Soldiers)
Carried the war on our shoulders
(Shoulders)
For our nations
(Nations)
Is that why we bury our friends?
(Bury our friends)
We were all
We were all
We were all
We were all friends
(Yes, we were friends)
And today we're all brothers
Tonight we're all friends
A moment of peace in a war that never ends
Today we're all brothers
We drink and unite
Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white
Hear carols from the trenches
We sing O Holy Night
Our guns laid to rest among snowflakes
A Christmas in the trenches
A Christmas on the front far from home
We were all
We were all
We were all
We were all friends
(Yes, we were friends)
And today we're all brothers
Tonight we're all friends
A moment of peace in a war that never ends
Today we're all brothers
We drink and unite
Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white
A Christmas on the frontline
We walk among our friends
We don't think about tomorrow
The battle will commence
When we celebrated Christmas
We thought about our friends
Those who never made it home
When the battle had commenced
Cultured
One of the only days that the humanity remembered that there's no point in killing each other
I love your videos!!
Awesome!
Simple History this makes me smile☺... freinds, gifts, chocolate, R.I.P for those who didn't survive when it happened
One of the greatest moments in human history merry Christmas 🎄 love to all humanity
It warms my heart to know the two armies, two enemies brought together for the holidays.
My teacher sent my class this to do a project thingy. This helped a lot. Thank you
Truly a light in the darkness.
This actually made me cry... these are people with real humanity!
If that ended ww1 that would be the most heart melting thing i have ever seen
Merry Christmas! From 2020.
Proves it was such an unnecessary war
It was, it was indeed.
Still Alsace and Moselle should have returned one way or another
True
Let’s just be glad history went the way it did
@@augth True, but maybe through a land exchange treaty or something (perhaps Germany could have been given another colony in Africa). This was the biggest waste of life AND money of any war I know. Heck, the only reason America joined is because Germany wouldn't stop attacking our shipping with U-Boats (and done the Zimmerman Telegram). If the Germans hadn't panicked or been so overly aggressive, we probably never join in.
This shows humanity to show love and share to those that you love and and even hate. To your friends and enemies. War is pointless.
Im going to ruin it now for anyone else that watches it, the next year, I beleive it was some British troops tried recreating it, and. . . were shot down.
Cuz generals didn't like it.
This story touches my heart
The Germans were so kind!
Britain wanted the war
@Avanchel austria not serbia
It's that time of the year again. Merry Christmas!
It would have been so amazing if the war ended like this
This video suddenly appears in my recommendation. Merry Christmas To Everyone :)
Perfect timing for this video xD
that brings a tear to my eye
Germans: we want peace, please...?
German officers: yea, go march in their way without weapons, hands up and play some games
Allies: huh, that's weird they are marching toward without rifles.
Allied Officers: meh, a trick maybe.
Allies: nah, no guns there
Germans: merry christmas bois! ya wanna play football?
Allied Officers: meh, okay
Allies: sure why not?
Germans: cmon lets sing and play!
Allies: yea this war is useless!
Ottomans: i'm sad i can't join
Germans: bring a few troops we don't care
Ottomans: yay, but not my religion and i sitll don't care!
All: *singing and playing football as well*
Me: and that was the story of the 1914 christmas truce...imagine if the battlefield 1 servers did this hahah
The fact that music and mutual holiday cheer is what brought them to this truce, is just beautiful.
plz do Trinidad and Tobago during ww1 or ww2
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 110 years later
Sabaton!!
Thanks have a wonderful day!
It should be a tradition that soldiers from both sides ceise fire on Christmas.
Good luck getting ISIS onboard.
@@aperson4933 but isis aint soldiers or people
ISIS wouldn't allow that, they're brainwashed killing machines
This is really sad. It just shows that they are all real people, with feelings, and they never wanted to kill anyone, they just wanted to live. But instead, they were forced into something they didn’t want to be apart of.
I hate religion, but Christmas shall always be celebrated because of this event
TheVakicGuy 1005
:)
Religion be always in our soul because it created the Christmas spirit...
If you're an atheist, christmas is empty and nothing because you don't even believe the existence of Jesus.
I've recommended your videos in history classes and now i've seen in all classes we use your videos.
Too bad isis doesn't celebrate christmas...
Too bad
lol they don't even have mercy for Muslims
Wait, I thought Muslims celebrated Christmas?
Benny Biggums Muslim's do celebrate it non-religiously, but Jihadists don't.
+lonelystormtrooper Well, so to speak, only the clueless does celebrate.
This proves that we don't need war to further our goals. This event proves that two greatest enemies can become friends even for a day. Merry Christmas 2017!
You forgot the day after when a German soldier came back trying to extend the truce and a British officer shot him dead.
+Blah Blah maybe you could tell the story for everyone
If only the Christmas Truce were more widespread.
It could've been the greatest miracle in European history.
The Christmas that ended a war.
Did a gibus wearing f2p tryhard come in and kill everyone
I also wish all of them a happy Christmas to all the soilders
Who’s here because of Sabaton
I always find these videos informative and interesting.
Anyone December 2017?
MadBat ya
That must have been very psychologically damaging to continue fighting after that
Please make Serbian army faction, Serbian army was very important and Searbians were fighting against Germany, Austrohungary and Bulgaria (3vs1). Serbia was fighting on Salonica front and mutch other thinks!
