Great review Calvin! Laughed hard at the Sheriff Pepper inclusions, although he really would not seem out out place in TWINE or DAD... Interesting game, 007 Racing, I totally did not expect a story, I thought it was more akin to the Bond vehicles in the new Forza Horizon 4! And so many Bond characters make a return, so I have to applaud the game makers for trying this hard!
Fun Fact: At the 2004 British Grand Prix along with a few other select dates during the "summer tour" of european races the Red Bull F1 team repainted their cars in a special james bond themed livery too help co-promote the release of Die Another Day.
24:12 True Crime Streets of LA has a better version of this mission near the end of the good story path where you stop Rocky's jet by shooting its engines. Why couldn't this game have something like that?
Great review Calvin! Much respect to you for being able to get through the whole game; I recently tried it out for the first time and had to tap out on the first level.
Great review. Never played this, and honestly, probably never will. Really, the game 007 Racing really reminds me of would be Spy Hunter for the PS2. Similar concepts really, you drive a gadget laiden car and have to complete objectives by driving through levels set all over the world. However, Spy Hunter is really great, it's well designed, its objectives are designed so that you rarely have to stop, and unlike in this game, the car can also be driven on water too. I really recommend it, it basically is the great version of what 007 Racing seemed to be trying to accomplish. Also got to say, I was laughing very hard at the Sheriff JW Pepper gags in this, love your editing of him into Brosnan era scenes. I really look forward to your other PS1 reviews, as someone who has played all the PS2 and PS3 era games I am curious to see how they hold up, and also to see Eurocom's first go at Bond as well. I am curious, since you will be looking at both versions of The World Is Not Enough, have you ever considered looking at the PC version of Nightfire? Like TWINE, it was made by another developer, Gearbox, I believe on a different game engine too, and has many departures from the console version, like no vehicle or turret sections. It was made by Gearbox, who are in fact still going, currently working on Borderlands 3 which will be out next month.
Daniel Holmes Thanks for the tip about Spy Hunter! May well have to check it out. A game revolving around Bond cars is such a good idea and yet they completely dropped the ball on this one. You definitely don’t need to play this one, you’re missing out on nothing. And yes I think I’ll have to try to find a way to play the PC Nightfire. I own a Mac rather than a PC though so I’m guessing that makes things more difficult?
@@calvindyson Spy Hunter is something I do recommend, although sadly the 2 sequels they made for it also on the PS2 did sadly drop the ball. In fact, I remember Spy Hunter 2 having an infuriating boss fight against a massive jumbo jet plane as it tries to take off just like in 007 Racing actually. Still, first one is great, and looking at eBay, should cost less than £5. Sadly, I'm not very tech literate. According to Wikipedia, Nightfire's PC version actually did get a Mac release 1 and a half years after the PC version, apparently ported by yet another company called Aspyr. Nightfire for all intents and purposes is basically a dead game, due to the fact that it and alot of Bond games have never been rereleased, due to the licencing issues. A couple of options you have really, either buy a mac version of eBay or some other site. (Currently, Ebay has one listing for a Mac version, at £3.49 including P&P.) Buy it and see if your Mac will run it, although I imagine the newer your Mac is, the less likely it will. The other option is to try a fan download. Again, it's not like you can buy Nightfire "legitimately" from an actual game site like Steam, so while it technically is piracy, I don't think there is anything wrong with it in this situation. However, I'm struggling to find a site that provides a Mac version to download. So it might be best just to buy the Mac version, see if you can run it or not, and if you can't, maybe try to find some advice from Google or perhaps a site for Mac users about where to go from there.
This game needs a remake. It’s crammed with iconic characters (including the almighty Sheriff JW Pepper) and would be a hell of a lot of fun if it had a Mario kart style multiplayer mode with 007 themed maps and classic Bond cars and characters duking it out.
I've been looking forward to this, and it did not disappoint! I've never played 007 Racing and only heard bad things about it online and I can see why lol, but I enjoyed the video and loved learning about all the classic characters that were featured in it. Also your edits of the Brosnan films with Sheriff Pepper are absolutely hilarious and now I'm sad they aren't actually real. Looking forward to TWINE :)
I'm so glad you enjoyed it :D Thanks for the comment! Yeah, it's a shame this story was represented by better gameplay. Could have been something quite exciting!
Wait, R says there are only seven 00 agents? That's not right. TWINE (the most recent movie released at the time) makes reference to a 009. So unless they stopped recruiting new agents after the whole Alec thing, I think that's a huge oversight. Then again, I'm nitpicking the lore in 007 Racing...
I actually think this Game Had Potential not a Bad idea focusing on the cars which offer a lot of playroom for Creative leveldesign. The first two Levels really Show that. Its also the first James Bondthing I Ever experienced, so it has a Special Place in my Heart lol
Great review! Happy to subscribe! I played this game quite a bit but never got passed the third mission. I enjoyed the split screen mode more than anything else.
Thanks, Jeff! It does seem to be a common thing amongst players (myself included!) that back in the day the third mission was the deal breaker... Those damn forklifts!
Hey Calvin. Great review, and I did actually enjoy playing a few of these levels when I was a much younger kid (round 9/10 I think). Anyway, on that River Chase level, I believe she's actually saying "launch the mortars", which is what the Moonraker guards were launching at Bond during that particular boat chase. Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to your World is Not Enough review. And if you didn't know, that's a cheat code on Bond's license plate in the front cover. I think it gives you Dalton's Aston for multiplayer.
I owned this when i was young and still have my copy, although i only made it to about the third mission before becoming disinterested I remember when i saw it in the shop i thought oh cool a racing game with bond cars. But yeah i was pretty disappointed.
It’s kinda funny how fun the car sections were in Agent Under Fire, Nightfire, Everything or Nothing, and even Blood Stone despite none of them centering on car combat like this one. Granted, they probably saw what worked and didn’t work here and incorporated that in later games.
8:00 If you hold R2 it fires the rockets from both sides which can minigate the issue but doing this uses 2 rockets so don't spam it or you will run out of rockets quickly.
I remember getting this on for Christmas one year along with the playstation. Played it the whole day long, only taking a break for dinner. So many memories but good god did it have some issues. That said, driving around in a DB5 as 10 or so year old me was the best feeling.
I remember renting this once and I'm pretty sure I only ever gave it one sitting and never got past that 3rd level. I think I had already played Spy Hunter (2001) at the time and thought that an older but similar game could still be fun. I really just want to echo the couple comments I saw saying that Spy Hunter is an actually good execution of the "do missions in a spy car with weapons and gadgets" concept.

This was my gateway to the 007 universe. My cousin gave me a pirated copy of this game and my brother and I spent many hours playing it 20 years ago. About 5 years later, I procured a legitimate copy for my PS2 and spent time beating the game on 00 Agent, as well as unlocking all the cheats and other unlockables. As bad as this game is, I cut it a lot of slack, as without it, I wouldn't have watched all the films, read some of the Fleming novels, or picked up the better games that were made.
Awesome, Calvin, thank you. I've never played this one. Thanks for ensuring that I never will :-) Sherriff Pepper was hilarious but I especially loved "like a Ken doll's face pushed in by a thumb!"
They tried to kill me with a forklift! Gotta love the box art, where the DB5’s number plate has been changed from BMT 216A (or 214A for the Brosnan Era) to L1R1ΔOX. Because PlayStation I guess, either that or Greece. Now I thought from the title this game would be the obligatory Mario Kart knockoff that it seems every film/TV IP is required to have. Which could be fun if done right. Get all the old cars and create tracks based on all the Ken Adams sets, all you have to do is replace the turtle shells with missiles, the banana peels with oil slicks and Toad with Carter from ‘Casino Royale’ - it could work, just as long as you had a competent developer.
BenCol I would have LOVED it if it was more Mario Kart and less mission objectives and the like. Also they only include like, 5 cars here which is a bit pitiful. No love for TLD Aston!
Calvin Dyson Reviews Bond Tsk tsk, the V8’s one of the best. Though, if it didn’t come with funky jazz on the radio and the ability to turn into a shed, then what would’ve been the point?
Brilliant review as always Calvin 🙂 Did you use the cheat on the DB5 number plate from the game front cover to unlock the V8 from The Living Daylights as a extra car to play as in the multiplayer?
Confession time, I played this game nonstop as a kid. My parents didn't let me watch the movies at this point, but I was allowed to play the 007 games. Probably because violence level is very mild, as people die but there's no blood on screen. EDIT/correction: I forgot that "Tomorrow Never Dies" for PS1 did have on screen blood. You see a small blood splatter sometimes when shooting enemies.
Noticed the Lotus Esprit has Bond driving on the left, whereas the Lotus cars in The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only has him driving on the right.
They should have added some kind of free play mode that you can unlock where you can replay any of the missions but you can pick what car and gadgets you want.
You know Calvin, imagen if this game had a remake. The idea is sound (Though limited in some aspects) and it gave the fans the chance to play with their favorite bond cars (Up to 2000). If a remake is possible, it could include more levels with the other 12, an option to toggle between weapons (Without the annoyance of being forced to use the newly collected item), the cars from the late Brosnan to the Craig era being added as unlockables, Actual racing events for namesake (With some tracks from a few bond films) and possibly online multiplayer with other players.
Me liking terrible things is kinda a meme at this point but I unironically loved this game growing up. I remember struggling a lot in some single player missions (Yep, Ambush can gtfo) but me and my dad would play the multi-player CONSTANTLY. Also fun fact there's a cheat code you can input on the 'press start' screen where you can unlock the V8 from 'The Living Daylights'.

11:44 - This pass percentage is 80% at 00 Agent difficulty.
13:49 - Those bulldozers can be destroyed with shooting missiles on their backs.
Can't wait for your TND review - love the film and love the game. It almost plays like an extended cut with lots of little deleted scenes like how Bond got to the arms bazaar and Wai Lin vs Chang's army.
Fun Fact:
At the 2004 British Grand Prix along with a few other select dates during the "summer tour" of european races the Red Bull F1 team repainted their cars in a special james bond themed livery too help co-promote the release of Die Another Day.
24:12 True Crime Streets of LA has a better version of this mission near the end of the good story path where you stop Rocky's jet by shooting its engines. Why couldn't this game have something like that?
EA hired Eutechnyx to make this game, which is odd considering they already had the Need for Speed game engine available.
Great review Calvin! Much respect to you for being able to get through the whole game; I recently tried it out for the first time and had to tap out on the first level.
18:51 I really appreciate seeing a 1st gen Ford Lightning in a 007 video game, or at least the front end looks like one
These bits with J W Pepper got me rolling on the floor 🤣
This game needs a remake. It’s crammed with iconic characters (including the almighty Sheriff JW Pepper) and would be a hell of a lot of fun if it had a Mario kart style multiplayer mode with 007 themed maps and classic Bond cars and characters duking it out.
In this game, rubbery 007 is played by the 12th Earl of Portland--that's my only fact about this game and I love it. Poshest Bond since David Niven!
3:28 that wide eyed reaction gets me everytime 😂
I had a lot of great nostalgic memories of playing this game when I was a kid. Great times!!!!!
I would think that it was rushed as Sony was at this point focusing on the PS2
I never even heard of this game. Anyway a new Calvin review made my day.
9:11 "HE TRIED TO KILL ME WITH A FORKLIFT!"
I like 007 rancing a bit i quite like the opening with the monchart and the start
Cherise says "Launch the mortars!"
Maybe he meant 7 currently living 00 agents
I actually think this Game Had Potential not a Bad idea focusing on the cars which offer a lot of playroom for Creative leveldesign. The first two Levels really Show that. Its also the first James Bondthing I Ever experienced, so it has a Special Place in my Heart lol
That jw pepper montage was too funny 😂
Suprisingly enough this was a multiplayer stable for my brother and I. Our choices were limited to be fair, but I remember quite enjoying it
Great review!
20:46 - 20:55 Had me on the floor laughing my a** off! X'D
... I'm a simple man.
Me too. Hilarious.
I owned this when i was young and still have my copy, although i only made it to about the third mission before becoming disinterested
I remember when i saw it in the shop i thought oh cool a racing game with bond cars.
The ps1 debuted when I was in high school so I have a soft spot for the old blocky polygons
Dodging forklifts? Apparently the makers of this game had Colonel Heller's (Don Stroud) impalement by forklift in License to Kill on their minds.
This is the song about 007
Saving the world inside his car
THEY TRIED TO KILL HIM WITH A FORKLIFT!
8:00 If you hold R2 it fires the rockets from both sides which can minigate the issue but doing this uses 2 rockets so don't spam it or you will run out of rockets quickly.
That Pepper sketch was PERFECT! Hilarious!!!
I will always wonder what the song playing around 25:48 is
I remember getting this on for Christmas one year along with the playstation.
Love the video Calvin finally been waiting for this one!
007 Racing is one of my favorite bond games.
ea before: lets just give them a game with james bond
ea in a different universe if they still made the games:would you like to purchase the item "gun" for 1000000 pounds
25:20 - Hold up, is Melody a Mark 1 model of Zoe Nightshade?! Purple skirt, white top, ponytail hairstyle.... Helluva coincidence but I've never noticed mainly because I never reached the end.
I love your reviews, dude. They give me such a nostalgia trip. 😊
Does anyone know the price of this game when it was brand new
They tried to kill me with a forklift!
I think you will find the river chase starts with our bad girl saying "Launch the Mortars"
I bought this recently and am not sure whether to be excited or regretful
I had forgotten about this game until you showed that gameplay. I remember playing this. I could never beat that first level!
19:16 Launch the muscles? Lunch the morsels?
Mortars, a type of bomb
Brilliant review as always Calvin 🙂 Did you use the cheat on the DB5 number plate from the game front cover to unlock the V8 from The Living Daylights as a extra car to play as in the multiplayer?
Thanks! I didn't even know the cheat was a thing! I complained somewhere else in these comments about the lack of love for the V8
great stuff man. i had to pause the video to stop laughing when you imitated that man's accent haha.
That still trips me out seeing Nova Scotia on the map
The last time I saw a face as rubbery as that Pierce Brosnan model, was in an adult section of a gift shop in Blackpool.
“Launch the morsels!”
When will the next game review be out?
6:32
10:14 That sounds like something from spy hunter
They should have added some kind of free play mode that you can unlock where you can replay any of the missions but you can pick what car and gadgets you want.
The J.W Pepper part made me laugh so much!! 😂😂😅🤣🤣
WOW, this brings me back...I remember getting to level three and never returning to the game.....FORKLIFTS! :)
Are you going to review Tomorrow Never Dies PS1 at any point Calvin? Loved that game! Looking forward to TWINE !
The plot of this game is better than the plot of Spectre... how sad is that.
Love your game reviews. Do you know when we can expect the next?
Thanks!
NO WAY WHAT?! I should have totally checked that out!!
Oh yes I've been looking forward to this.
Hope you enjoy, Tony! :D
Calvin any video you put out I'm gonna love it. And so far this is no exception.
Calvin this was another great video looking forward to your next video.
Will there be a review of 2D Bond games like The Duel or the GameBoy game?
9:19 “He tried to kill me with a forklift.”
And didn’t Zukovsky die in TWINE or is there just enough vagueness about it that he could be alive?
@@dvader518 Depends on who you ask. On the DVD audio commentary with director Michael Apted, he did say that he felt like Zukovsky could have survived his gunshot wounds and return in another movie.
6:10 - "I've taken the liberty of giving you a "welcome gift" with your car, to ensure that you're welcomed in the most _explosive_ manner possible."
TRANSLATION:
"James Bond. Your time polluting the espionage scene is over. I gave you the chance to be friends, and now i'm giving you the chance to DIE. Try to slow down, and your car will _explode,_ along with your *BIG, HAIRY ASS!"*
Thanks for triggering my PTSD with those good damn forklifts 😢
