    To anyone scrolling in the comments looking for some hope: I used to think I would never stop binge eating and now I'm finally managing to stop overeating for good!
    1. The most important thing is to ALLOW YOURSELF TO PROCESS YOUR EMOTIONS, do NOT numb them with food. When you feel sad, anxious etc, let yourself feel it.
    2.Learn to recognise whenever that urge to overeat appears, call it out, and dismiss it. I always used to finish a meal and then think about what I could eat next, but then I learned those were just binge urges from my brain, not my body (which was obviously satisfied). Overtime, you'll immediatley be able to call out a binge urge and dismiss it, instead of acting on it.
    3. Do not restrict (a) the amount of food you eat and (b) what kind of food you eat. Its incredibly common for people to start off the day trying to restrict and then burning out and deciding to binge on food. If you restrict a certian food/food altogether, you will want it more. Make sure you are eating satisfying meals that taste good and are big enough to satisfy you. If you want a certian food then eat it! Its better to have some chocolate everyday than a lot of chocolate in the space of 30 minutes.
    You probably will slip up along the way, but those slip ups will become less frequent. If you feel guilty or anxious about it, allow yourself to feel that emotion and register it. Don't try to numb it with further overeating. Please don't be harsh on yourself, progress is almost never linear.

    Oh I'm definitely an emotional eater and it's something I've been trying to work on the most. I'm also just trying to learn more about my signals. The hardest for me is leaving food on the plate because I don't want it to go to waste or stopping when I'm really enjoying the way it tastes.

    • @endersjeesh6821
      @endersjeesh6821 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @wonderjess2123 I used to have that problem, but what I do now is save the rest for left overs. It's nice because I know I can still enjoy it. So really it's like enjoying it twice and not missing out. Plus when you know you didn't overeat, you feel happier about your choice. Not to mention it saves money. Wishing you well ❤️

      Same. My mom makes a lot of five star meals in which I mean she makes about five or six stuff on the plate and everytime I eat and feel full it's almost like I can't even resist to stand next to the garbage can without looking at the food and eating more of it, like a couple of night's ago that happened to me and I wanted to stop eating so bad but I don't want to waste it.

      I lived most of my 45 yrs of age eating like that...Even to this day its difficult for me to serve myself (and everyone else in my family) smaller portions. So now because I'm actively trying to eat healthier to lose weight and to have my kids growing up healthy, I'm "injecting" most meals with vegetables. I'm now achieving a ratio of 50/50 and my goal is to get to 80/20 of vegetables/ meat (fish or anything else) So the plate gets full like I'm used to but with stuff that you hardly can over eat because if you eat a plate full of veggies, nothing really bad is going to happen to you, right? The trick is really to learn to cook vegetables properly so for that I invested in some good vegetarian cooking books and I can only say that after some months I'm not craving big steaks, burguers or pork chops as much as I used to. Its the way to go...

    People like to mask "sad emotions" with the feel-good chemicals released from certain unhealthy high-calorie foods. Mindfulness, is really important as you mentioned Dani, chewing each bite 15-20 times, closing your eyes, and appreciating the benefits coming from the meal. Thanks for posting this, your eyes look lovely in this video!

    My overeating comes during the weekend, when I go out with my husband after a hard week. I just feel like I want to order everything in the menu because is my "cheat meal". And what makes everything worse is that my husband supports and encourages me on that rather than helping me to stop or to order only specific foods or less. He loves overeating too. So it's really hard.

    I recommend figuring out what time you tend to over eat. This is where the lightbulb came on and I ended my over eating! I over ate when I bring my kids home from school around 330. The emotions would pile up, they'd ask me to do things, and I avoided and procrastinated by eating something, and I felt great when I ate! It was always something healthy AND delicious like one of Danis recipes! But I knew that as soon as I stop eating, I had to face what I was avoiding, so I didnt want to stop eating!! I couldnt figure this out until I took a few minutes to think about WHEN my over eating regularly happened. Thank you Dani!! LOVE your channel and website!!!

I had at one time a bout of anorexia, what you said of not listening to my internal cues really hit home. As a child I was told what to eat and when. Omg, that is exactly what I just commented on to a previous comment. I am 52 and going thru a lot of changes and stress so
      I thought it was me being weak minded but I really believe that more "mature"people of days gone by were taught eating habits that contribute to being overweight in this day and age.
      Taught to eat certain times and what kinds of food to eat.
      I am learning to break out of that cycle and I have lost weight already, but it is really hard to break the habit..good luck moving forward👍

    1:15 - Having a plan is fine, but it should be an enjoyable plan that works for you.
    2:55 - I can be satisfied on 2000-2500 calories of mostly processed food (pizza, fries, spinach, eggs) with OMAD. But I normally exercise to eat like that.
    3:58 - Protein is the best for fullness. Micronutrients help the body function well, though.
    4:43 - I agree. Chewing food slowly helps us enjoy it. Hard chocolate even has to reach a certain temperature in your mouth to taste it.
    6:26 - Yeah, both overexcitement and work/chore anxiety for me. Also, caffeine and insulin spiking artificial sugars (aspartame specifically). Even the carbonation in drinks (probably airy foods too) can cause a giant ghrelin spike.

    I don't understand why people ignore the fact that probably most of us overeat just because the food we eat is so delicious that it's hard to stop when we should. It's that simple and that's why it' so hard to change it, I enjoy food too much, especially cakes and I overeat because it' s too tasty to not eat some more, and some more, and that is why I allways have about 10 kg too much. I think if people were honest it would turn out to be number one reason of overeating. We just enjoy eating too much!

    • @CleanandDeliciousDani
      @CleanandDeliciousDani  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I don't agree with this because if this was the case - and we overate simply because food was delicious - EVERYONE would overeat cake, but they don't. SO what's the missing link?

      I agree with Dani on this one. From personal experience, I used to overeat sweets a lot (cake is my favorite), but over time, listening to my hunger signals and eating more non processed foods have helped me stop overeating. Now I feel satisfied with just one serving of sweets instead of having to eat half the bag of something.

    • @sunrise214
      @sunrise214 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CleanandDeliciousDani Well, I know that I only overeat when I love the food that I eat, I never overate something I didn't enjoy, and there are many people who don't care for sweets and cakes so it's a little bit silly to say that everyone would be overeating cakes and they don't. Not everyone overeat what they love because they have self control and really care about staying fit, also, there are people who don't enjoy eating much so they don't have a problem with that, I met quite many people like that. I just think that people in general feal better about themselfes if they find a" deeper " reason of their overeating then just beeing a pig as we would say where I live, but I do belive that the main reason is enjoying eating what you find tasty and thinking I'll have just a little bit more, and then just a little bit more, and you end up loaded.

    All the other things that come along with time eating / external cues such as the TV, time, all the advertisements that come at you. I changed my oil and loss 20lbs so far. Meaning oatmeal and boiled eggs instead of bacon and fried eggs water no soda etc. plus veggies and different fruits at moderation. Hope this take me to my goal of losing more weight.

    Definitely guilty of all 4 points. I have restricted my diets for almost years at a time. Extreme discipline. But when you start eating things you are not used to eating its almost hard to shut that off. I have a hard time taking the internal ques on eating the wrong food because of dieting behavior or mental excuses ive formed due to extreme diets... thats insane that she put that into words for number 1. My biggest issue is stress though... number 4. I tend to “eat my feelings” for comfort. I dont have many vices but man i love food but i forget food is not an addiction its a nutritional tool for my bodys fuel. I have something similar to her diet called the “no” diet. She brought up a great point about being conscious while eating... this inspired me to fire up my fitness pal again. Im pretty solid muscle but i want less body fat. I usually live around 135 but after weighing myself today then over eating from emotional triggering as a reaction from being 147... time to be more conscious. Thank you

    I’ve learned I’m not “enjoying” my food if I’m watching TV, or in any way NOT LOOKING at my food. I taste more of the food’s flavors & receive more of its benefits when I look at the food & savor each bite. This can be a challenge even when I’m eating with people. It’s great to eat together, it’s good for relationships, etc. but if I’m too caught up in the presence of the people, too engaged in conversations or personalities, I can end up eating blindly, just taking the food in, going thru the actions of eating, bite after bite, without “acknowledging” the flavors, the colors, the textures, etc. This is key for me when I’m trying not to over eat.

    the clock! yes I eat by the clock so you absolutely nailed it. It's 40 years of habit and it is hard to turn off. the other element i feel is driving me to eat more is a fear of waste, whether that be wasting the food or wasting the money spent on the food. i just don't know how to get past that hurdle.

    Thanks for the video, it was helpful to hear your perspective. My overeating is driven by anxiety and overwhelm. That is also behind my hypertension. I feel like I am stuck in Groundhog Day. I gained 40 lbs after my husband died 3 decades ago. The weight came in really fast because I was alone with my 3 kids and completely overwhelmed with grieve, responsibility, no support and having to hold it together for my kids, work and build our life again as a changed family. This set me into this diet/exercise cycle and not feeling good about who I am. A medical professional I consulted at that point only told me to lay of the ice cream. I am European. I grew up eating ice cream in the summer as a treat but not year round. I have “ dieted “ for 3 decades now. I just do not want do that any longer. I like to eat to live.

    Amazing content as always! I've been really focusing on the attention part of my eating: no TV for breakfast and it's now my most enjoyable meal at 5:30 AM! When it's dark outside, just me and hubby and our cat, I can relax and have my cacao chia pudding which is AMAZING! enjoying each bite! and it's really been proven to me that I stay satiated for hours on and don't eat as much! so, infinite wisdom as always! Also just wanted to say: That gorgeous eyeshadow? yes please!!!!!🙌😍😍😍

    Dani, great topic and not the usual diet stuff. I have trouble with food since birth due to a tortured colon - repaired in my 50s.
    Anyway, one of the things I have discovered for myself is that some foods fill me up and feel good when I eat them and others I might enjoy the taste - but wow, tummy is all swollen and ugh I feel down. I found that i.e. coconut bread or coconut (just about anything) makes me feel good and full. Spaghetti squash is the go to pasta for me - never heard of it until my 50s - don't know how I lived without it. Any kind of a dish from it. I also love eggs (just about any way you can fix them) and they taste great and dress up a salad and make it a great meal. I have a bad habit of eating a nice healthy meal and then being hungry very quickly. Health issues have mushrooms as one of my main foods and they are extremely healthy without a lot of downsides of other foods (meats or veggies). I had no idea all of the health benefits from mushrooms. And, anything you can do with meat, you can do with mushrooms.
    Since my health journey has taken me down some strange paths, I have discovered foods that I never thought would be any good for me. Beets, kohlrabi (didn't know what that was 5 years ago), etc etc. Think of food as love and an adventure and try those things that do not come in a bag at the gas station.
    And, the best advice I ever got is don't try to do it all at once - take one thing at a time and try it. I did not go to dark chocolate over night - now, I do not like the taste or smell of milk chocolate. But, your body has to adjust and trying to suddenly eat all different will send it into a tail spin.
    Sounds to me like everyone here is open to hearing about ways to deal with this.
    Oh, and lastly, do not assume that just because you are heavy that it is a weight problem. It can be a health problem, an endocrine imbalance, an infection chronic or acute, with bloating, etc etc. Get a full workup by a good internist first with blood tests to tell you if something is missing (iron? Vit D? Vit K? or any of the other things you might need to be healthy) There are actually companies that will do a complete health profile from your DNA (and no they do not keep it) and mine matched up my medical tests exactly! It was done by health professionals and although expensive for me, it was a very reasonable cost considering what some charge you. Search if you are not getting help and do not give up.

    A constant challenge for me is letting go of the diet mentality. When I eat pasta, no bread-sometimes I want pasta alone and sometimes just the sauce and bread. But that thought pasta no bread is always in the background. Big aha moment for me recently is learning to us a hunger scale separate from a fullness scale, they aren’t the same but work together. Another point you made, mindfulness when eating on occasion is a great tool for me to learn my inner cues. Thank you, I really like your videos!

      I tried this with my daugher. It worked from day 1. My husband is a Naturopath. Start morning with aloe vera. After couple of hours a few drops of propolis in rice milk. Have no dairy, no sugar ,no processed. Eat only when you r hungry. Eat small meals.
      Probiotics with lunch. I like Biocare. In the afternoon half a teaspoon of slippery elm dilluted in five milk. Before bedtime one drop of oregano oil dilluted in olive oil and rubbed on your belly and feet and spine. Do this for fourteen days. Now my daughter is fine. If very rarely ( has not happened for months) symptoms occur again just a bit of everything for a day of two and you 'll be fine. Western medicine does not sure acid reflux. Watch Dr Axe s videos and Dr Berg s. They r holistic

    The biggest cause of me overeating and eating too fast is because in the last children home I was the food was forcefully taken away from us after the set time of 15 minutes was over. That doesn’t mean we always had 15 minutes to eat, because when you arrived f.e. 10 minutes after the time started you only had 5 minutes left to eat.
    I‘m an adult now and I know that this won’t happen to me ever again but I think it‘s still burned into my head.
    I also have difficulties to stop eating when I‘m already full (whether there’s still food left or I just „want“ to keep eating and look for more food).
    So I wouldn‘t call myself a binge eater cause I can feel if I‘m full but I‘m actually not really sure.
    I also don’t overeat until I feel sick.

      Ter: Born Again Christians realize that our bodies are God's Temple. Having a personal relationship with Jesus is the motivation to treat our bodies the best we can, but our human nature still rebels. God loves us all and extends grace to our imperfections so we can give that same grace to other people, too. I like how you’ve been coaching your clients.
