Change the habit! Whenever this feeling arises go make and drink a cup of tea immediately (for example). Your brain will connect the new action to the old impulse
Drink water! When you can't tell if you're hungry or not, drink some water. You might just be thirsty. Also drinking a full glass of water before you eat can help with portion control.
Kitt Legit you're right. I learned this from an elder a few years back. Can have what ever you like as long as you drink a full glass of water (not the small glasses but the big ones) before and after you eat. It really controls your intake. Plus, my mom keeps reminding me as well... I stopped at one point because I didn't like how small the portion I was consuming lol big plate = full stomach and small plate = not full, need more, in my mind. Trying to get back into more water, had notice a little weight loss before backtracking.
Shravani Kumari the accurate advice is you should drink water 30min before your food, and 90min (an hour and a half) after you finish eating. That way you don’t harm the digestion and give your body enough time to finish processing the food.
Wishing everyone who reads this and suffer from emotional eating/hunger because of stress/depression/anxiety/grief etc. I hope you'll overcome this situation!
You nailed it right here.... 07:06 ......that was me! What I do now is either chew on a piece of gum or if I'm home I brush my tongue especially all the way in the back. Drink plenty of water and the urge goes away. Right now I'm doing the 16:8 fasting and I swear I'm hardly hungry only when it gets closer to the time I'm suppose to eat. I truly forgot what hunger felt like bc I was always eating..... good luck people this stuff isn't easy.....
Hey I truly want to know how that’s going for you? I had also fasted before and lost lots of weight but lately I’ve been gaining back during this quarantine which is depressing. But I’m trying to find a way to lose weight again and I’m thinking of fasting again but in a healthier way.
Come to think of it🤔... If I wake up in the morning and brush my teeth, the hunger I was feeling since I woke disappears so I sometimes skip breakfast. This would really help with resisting the urge to eat something even when not hungry. I will sure use it and see how it goes. Thank you for this 😄
This is one of the clearest explanations I've ever heard about "emotional eating" and being able to differentiate it from legitimate physical hunger. Thanks and great work, Dani!
Hello my friends! After posting my last Food For Thought (How To Lose Weight Without Dieting) I had a lot of questions about how to tell the difference between 'real' and 'fake' hunger. So I am sharing three tools that helped me learn the difference so I could stop eating when I wasn't hungry. Would love to hear your thoughts and questions down in the comments below. XO
Hi Dani, this makes complete sense but I wonder how you make this work with a family. We try to eat as a family in the evenings but I rarely feel hungry and eat because I've cooked dinner for everyone. My kids are 11 and 14 so are old enough to decide if they are hungry but we would all end up eating separately and eating different meals if we ate only when we were hungry. Should I just let this happen? I don't want to force my kids to eat when they're not hungry. Also, if left to their own devices they are not going to cook a mea, they are going to have something on toast or cereal. It's difficult to manage.....or is this just me? Thanks in advance
lorraine trundell thanks, lorraine!!! I agree- it is really hard to practice this with other family members... having dinner together is the only family time we can manage but I usually feel no hunger in the dinner time. Since it relates to daily routine for each member, it is difficult to adjust. I too also appreciate if Dani can give an advice in terms of family setting practice. Thank you!!!
It's not always possible to eat only when you are hungry, i mean if you at school and you do not eat when it's lunchtime because you were not hungry, But 2 hours later you are, you just can't start eating lunch in the middle of Class. I always thought the feeling of hunger was the same for everyone. It's like weird to see someone explain the feeling of hunger
I know u wrote this 3 years ago but for anyone coming across this comment it’ll probably be helpful so... Hunger isn’t a sensation that has to be immediately filled, sometimes we have irrational fears of hunger so some people eat “just in case” they’ll be hungry later. It’s not going to kill you, and maybe even, it’d be a little beneficial. Having hunger means dealing with the little discomfort with it and that means getting a stronger more disciplined mind. Either way, when you get on to the bus, you could ask your bus driver to eat, or when you get into your car, first thing you can do is eat your lunch before returning home to prevent binge eating. It is not like you are going weeks without food, your body will be fine.
This is honestly revolutionary and straight forward advice. I personally lost 50 lbs eating this way over only a couple of months. I hate being sweaty so exercise isn’t my cup of tea. When you said that you feel fake hunger more in your mouth than stomach that REALLY resonated with me. Because even though I have achieved this practice and have continued to maintain it for the last year - that description has allowed me to now put into words the difference between these two feelings. The only thing I would add which I think is missing from much info about the “eating only when hungry” style of nutrition/weight loss is also - portion control! If we are eating only when hungry but then eating too much at one time - it will be such a long time till we feel hungry again that it becomes easier to justify eating when not hungry. So I would recommend that people also reduce your meal size portions to about 2/3 of normal (I just do this visually). You can substitute pretty much any amount of veggies to make up for the missing amount of your main meal if it makes you feel better mentally about the reduction in food. If you eat smaller portions, you will get hungry more frequently and therefore give yourself the opportunity and permission to indulge in the reward of food again! The biggest thing I have realized from eating this way is - there is always more food. There will always be more opportunities to eat so we don’t need to eat so much at one time. Wait until we actually feel the need - and then I promise you your food will also be 10x as satisfying and tasty than if you are just eating out of habit. :)
Good information. I try to eat only when I'm hungry without being tied to the time of day, i.e. lunch, dinner etc. I live alone so this is easy and I find if I am truly hungry I can get to the feeling of "satisfaction" and stop at that point. I am tempted to go to "full" but I keep reminding myself my body needs fuel only to the point where it's satisfied and no more. Anything after that point is extra calories I don't need. If I'm not truly hungry and eat I don't arrive at the that feeling of being satisfied. It never happens for me. That's how I can tell the difference. Took me many years of learning that. I still struggle at times but I try.
This was very helpful 🌸 I always tell people that I’m not hungry and I eat when I think about food: that’s the reason why I am overweight. But it never occurred to me that I need to listen to the cues my body gives. I know it sounds stupid but no one told me how to identity hunger.
@@02ChevyAvalanche Fortunately, you're at an age where you can develop new habits more easily than an adult can. Unfortunately, you're also at an age at which you can't as easily control what foods you're around. Usually exercise helps me control my cravings more easily. If you are able to talk to your parents openly, consider having a conversation about what foods they bring into the house and ask for guidance from your dad. I would strongly advise seeing your doctor, as well. This is definitely something you want to get control of early on. I've seen too many family members suffer and die all because of their eating habits.
I’m wondering how you are doing? Have you had any success? Have you found a type of exercise or an activity that would help? Like walking a dog? Playing basketball or another sport, riding a bike? Maybe a little weight lifting or jumping rope?? Keep your hopes up! There are all kinds of possibilities! Wishing you the best! DM
OMG! These tips are so on point. Once I realized that true hunger is felt in my stomach, I learned that my mouth and eye hungers are false. This has helped me so much. Thanks.
When I star eating in a day, I can not stop eating. I have such a lust for food, I constantly need to chew something and i feel sick if I don't eat till I go to sleep. That is why I practice intermittent fasting. I start eating at 7:00 in the evening and I eat non stop til 10:00 when I go to bed. Couse if I start eating in the morning I would be fat as a wardrobe. I cannot help myself, I get into agony if I don't have anything to eat, even if I feel full and can barely move. :'(
Zaharia Sari hey sweet, I strongly recommend researching and doing a parasite or candida cleanse, if your hunger is making no sense to you then it's likely that it's something else inside that is hungry. A good herbal parasite cleanse may be the answer for you, and I promise you a HEAP of people have a degree of parasites or candida in their bodies!
Hey Wanted to share many times your feelings hungry when your not hydrated This has been huge for me and when I get a good amount of water in me my hunger subsides and I don't eat till hours later Hope this helps and I LOVE what your doing on TH-cam Hugs Ptlovefit
A couple of months ago, I starting setting my alarm to eat every 3 hours, that has really work for me. Now I am never really hungry and rarely over eat. Sometimes when my alarm goes off I just eat a banana. That is just enough to stop me from over eating later. I eat so much less at each meal now and I can concentrate on eating healthy food this way too. I have no will power so this strategy has really helped me.
Eating all the time is bad for your body. We are not meant to be eating all the time your digestive system never gets a break. Takes a lot of energy to digest food that’s why ppl feel amazing when fasting or imf your going your body chance to relax and get all the stuff out of your system . One big meal and then veggies fruits nuts and seeds on the side is all you need a day to feel the best
How to stop that “mouth hunger” craving. 1. Drink a few gulps of cold water. Identify - did I feel that cold water go into my stomach? I think most of us know that feeling it’s actually not super pleasant. If you feel it, then you might actually be hungry and should eat. If you don’t feel it, don’t eat but drink more water! 2. Brush your teeth an tung (especially near the back). 4. Chew gum 5. Portion control is everything. If you are trying to loose weight - then reduce your portions at every meal to about 2/3 of what you would normally eat. This is so easy because I promise you will still be satiated after this amount. If you are over weight it is because you are eating too much - clearly (unless an underlying medical problem). This is the hardest thing to accept (I lost 50 lbs after I accepted this and followed these practices). As the weeks go on and your body adjusts, you may even be able to reduce your portions even more to about 1/2 of the original but find yourself eating more frequently through out the day due to actual hunger. This is what we want! 6. If you are going to snack on something unhealthy - portion control! Instead of having a whole piece of cake - only have 2/3 or 1/2 of what would have been normal for you before. This works with every food. Normally eat a whole bag of chips in one sitting? Portion only 2/3 or 1/2 of that into a SEPARATE container to eat. 7. Proteins and fats are our friends - sugar, artificial sugars, and grease are our enemies. If you eat a diet high in the enemy foods your hunger may feel debilitating. I personally feel sick, nauseous and headachy. So much so you will eat all the time to avoid this. At the point, I usually only experience that type of debilitating hunger during and after a vacation where I have eaten out constantly (I normally eat primarily home-made food). I don’t know how it works but it does. When you eat a friendly food diet instead - your hunger will come on much more slowly, not feel so bad, and be much more manageable if you can’t eat right at this moment. 8. Always carry ONE healthy emergency snack on you at all times (in your purse, bag, or car). I usually have a mandarin orange, because it is enough to get me through the next 30 mins to 1 hour when I need it without feeling hungry if I can’t eat a meal right away. And oranges are amazingly transportable. Once again I lost 50 lbs and have kept it off. I feel so free and all I had to do was listen to my body. :) I wish someone had spelled this out to me at an earlier age.
Great video- I read somewhere that "if you are not hungry enough to eat an apple, then you are not really hungry". I find that to be very true for me. I use that as my litmus test :)
If you don't have much time: 1. If you think you're hungry, but you're not really sure, you're most likely not actually hungry 2. Learn what real hunger feels like for your body 3. Try locating where your feeling of hunger is in your body However, I would recommend watching the whole video, since it's very informative and easy to understand
I really need this I’m struggling with that and you’re so right I work 12 hour shifts and then when I get off I feel like oh I didn’t eat nothing all day so it’s 8 o’clock. I need to eat something but really honestly I’m not hungry. I love you girl. Thank you so much you really open my mind to really say that I need to just listen to my body and not just shove food down my throat. Thank you thank you
Dani- Thank you so much for sharing this info with us. I'm totally out of connection with my body because food comforts my mind. You're amazing and I pray blessings on you for the encouragement you bring me and everyone else. P.S. I'm down 3 pounds after subscribing to C&D 2 weeks ago!
Thank you Dani this is very helpful. I realized most of my hunger is only in my mind. Will practice these techniques now. Drink more water when i have fake hunger.
Wow. Everything said is so straightforward but so insightful. It wasn’t until you said it that it hit me that I let myself believe that just because my mouth wants to eat something doesn’t NOT mean I’m hungry and that I don’t need to indulge that feeling. It’s my brain saying it wants to taste things, not my body saying it actually needs food. I need to practice holding back a bit and I probably don’t need to go hungry to do this
Great Video!! This is extremely helpful. I am not 6lbs away from my 40lbs weight loss goal and I find my self having a little extra when I know I'm not hungry anymore. So now I will close my eyes and really think is this going to make me feel better? Thanks a bunch!! Xo Adri from SF 🙃
Yes! Love promoting good but also individualised eating habits. This was so helpful... I was abt to make brunch but realised I was only eating because I thought I should, not because my body needed it
Thanks for sharing this info, so there are many of us who struggle with how to control craving (eat / overeat when you are not hungry, just the lust / craving for certain food which are usually unhealthy). I find it to be helpful to eat based on my biological clock (eat before I get too hungry, then it’s much less likely tend over eat).
thank you so much for this series. I have lost 75 pounds, and my body seems to have settled about 20-30 lbs heavier than that. I'd like to lose at least 10-15 of those, but after years of Weight Watchers, and before that eating whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted it, I feel like my brain doesn't understand how to just eat normally. This video is very helpful, I really want to teach myself to eat intuitively and I'm hoping that will lead to me losing 10-15 pounds and getting to a weight I'm comfortable with but isn't hard to maintain.
I found for myself, just letting go of the need to lose weight and refocusing on nourishment and learning how to handle emotions without food gave me the break I needed to relax a bit. And then in that space.... the weight loss became more of the side effect then the main focus. Just a thought. XO
That's what I'm TRYING to do. After spending so much of my life trying to lose the weight, then maintaining, then regaining after I got married, I really want to be able to step back from that thought of "losing that last 10 pounds" but it's hard, especially when some of my clothes don't fit how I'd like them to. I've recently deleted my Weight Watchers app and for the first time in FOREVER am not allowing myself to track anything. I'm trying to eat meals that satisfy me and not allowing myself to snack between unless I'm trying ravenous. If you can, I'd love a video about how to STOP eating when your full. My body takes a VERY LONG TIME to tell my brain I'm full so a lot of times I'll overeat at meals.
I get it. It's a practice for sure. Quick thoughts on stop eating when your full.... 1. SLOW down so your body has time to register. I like playing games like chew each bite 25x OR be the last one at the table to finish. 2. Notice - why you want to keep eating when you are full. Literally, the next time you notice you are full and want to keep eating, just notice what your brain tells you. The story your brain is running may be creating an emotion that is driving the desire to eat. BUT this can also simply be a matter of habit. Lots of exploring to do. xo
I no longer have issues with binge or heavy duty emotional eating, but have struggling with exact issue for a couple of months. I found your suggestions very helpful. Thank you.
Your video has come at the perfect time for me. I am reevaluating my relationship with food and realized I was stressed over thinking about what to eat and planning and was just exhausted. I now have a different approach and I am learning what full means to my body and listening to it. Thank you
Wow this is everything.....I am not kidding this needs to go viral. Everytime I feel hungry I'm going to watch this video this lady is so good at explaining this i have tired everything but I think this is going to work. I'll let you guys know if this works
Great presentation. I'm going with it. I feel this applies to me. What are your thoughts on eating, if hunger comes at bedtime? && any more quick tips would be appreciated. Thank you!
Thank you! That was helpful. When I get a workout in , I start feeling motivated to eat healthy. But on the days that I don't get a chance to workout, I just can't stop thinking about food. And that just leads to unhealthy choices of food. Then I start to lose the motivation.
I am a big believer that motivation comes from results. When we start to see progress or success we feel more motivated. Thats why a lot of people say fake it til you make it. We have to create thoughts that make us feel motivated and moving forward. The mind is a huge part of the equation.
Very good video as always! There is certainly a psychological aspect to eating. I have found that when my mind is occupied I tend to not eat as much. I implemented this in the real world by not eating while I am at work. I go to work with the mind set of I am here to make money not to eat, party and have a good time. I usually carry an apple and a couple spoons of peanut or almond butter for my lunch break. If I get another break during the day I have an empty glass bottle with a lid that has water in it. This trains your mind not to be a stress eater. By the time I get off work I am actually really physically hungry so I try to have some thing that is both healthy and quick to prepare at home so I don't just start grabbing junk food when I walk in the door. I call this my work place diet.
WOW THIS IS SO GOOD. I just watched this instead of eating a snack that I honestly knew I didn't even want but probably just wanted to stress eat. I so appreciate your channel.
I eat candy when I'm not hungry I keep eating when I'm fool I stop mid way into puking I just wanna say i only do this sometimes one minute it's out in the open and you won't be able too eat it if you refuse it but but guys dont just stop eating when your about too vomit stop cause your hunger pangs are satisfied words of wisdom have been planted
Thanks for this great tutorial! Can you give me some tips on how to stop eating when you have eaten enough, but you keep on eating because it tastes so good and you're mind want to keep on eating.
Fabulous tips! I've found that I eat when I have any aches or pains (headache, indigestion, muscle pain, stress tension, etc.) It's like I believed food is great pain reliever-- and it does distract, but not heal (at least the things I was dealing with).
I used to stress eat and what I would do is make myself some tea. Just the ritual of making the tea...taking that time to pause, breathe, think, decreased the stress immensely. Then I would sip my tea slowly and enjoy it. I use flavored black tea (like vanilla caramel or vanilla chai) which is zero calorie so I get all the flavor too which cuts off my chocolate cravings as well. Win win win!! In a pinch when I can't make tea, I chew gum. There's a theory that the act of chewing caises the body to calm down so gum makes me perform that act without all the calories.
I was hoping for some suggestions to deal with the "Mouth hunger". I am 53 and have had many years of eating to self sooth. I find it a compulsion that is difficult to fight even though I am now often aware that it is not true hunger.
Dolly, to really eliminate mouth hunger you need to identify the emotion you are looking to self soothe and then practice ways of caring for that emotion (soothe that emotion) without using food. This is hard to do at the beginning because it requires a lot of conscious awareness. But with practice you can create a new habit. What is it that you are always trying to soothe yourself from?
Awe, Dolly. I'm sure thats super tough. But do know, learning to handle and mange your emotions is the real work here. Dealing with mouth hunger will be a constant struggle if you can't get behind it to the real cause. Make sense?
Dolly, I understand! I'm the same way. I am always eating. I know it's emotional but I have done this for so long I don't know when I'm hungry. I'm always full. But it doesn't stop me from eating. I have no emotional support. My husband doesn't understand It sucks :(
Dani on point AGAIN! One of my indicators is when i get lightheaded or get a slight headache .. then its time to have a healthy dani spies snack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live with a large family, so sometimes I find myself trying to eat my food before my little brother or older sister gets into it, and I end up eating all of it. :| (they are big portions)
This is just what I needed to listen to. When I think about the times I want to eat it is more in my mouth than my stomach.. Also I have always heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day shouldn't we be eating it?
I do have a question .now I always wait to eat in the morning when I first wake up that's cuz I got to take my medicine in the morning and I have to do it on an empty stomach now sometimes I wait too much or I get dizzy and cranky before I eat so. my question to you is there a sweet spot that I cannot find anywhere it's time to eat because wait until I get to dizzy that I can't control my hunger ?
This was such a great video! Most--if not all--of the information you mentioned I already knew, but it was so nice to hear it from someone else. Sometimes telling yourself just isn't enough, especially when it's constant. I struggle with this on a daily basis, especially if I don't have work or school for the entire day. My mind begins to wander and I start to wander into the kitchen. That's where I start mindless snacking, which can lead to binging (I already messed up today, so why not keep going?). It's an extremely toxic and self-deprecating circle because regret and guilt ALWAYS follow. Even after I finish my dinner, I always crave that extra little something. I'm always thinking about food cravings and what I should eat for the next meal. You're so right in that I should start directing that energy somewhere else!
I always thought that putting off eating for more than 3 or 4 hours, throws off your metabolism. There are days when I honestly don't feel hungry until late in the afternoon.
Thing is in the moment I don’t care that I will feel horribly unwell after I’ve eaten on top of eating. Then I feel so unwell and repeat the process most days 😥
Good topic. Getting in tune with what one's real hunger is and thus eating when one is hungry is one way to work it...But for me, it's a slippery slope. Actually, getting my eating in ONLY at the three times of the day (which you mention and kinda disparage beginning at around 4:15) has worked great for me. Because now my physical hunger and mealtimes coincide! I've been doing this since way back in 2006 and now well into years of maintenance from obesity. When I was obese I was eating not only at the classic "meal" times but also all other times too! Basically ALL the time. Now I eat only at meal times. I don't have to worry about hunger and feelings but rather just stay the course/on track. I have completely detached feelings and urges from eating. Have I resolved all those feelings and emotions? No! But I no longer eat for with or over them. Heck, when I was obese I didn't know the difference between feelings and constantly stuffing my face. Sorting that out was/is a bit much to ask, at least for me. And I think you know and can tell I'm a pretty intelligent person otherwise...I know you're passionate about what you do, and hopefully can appreciate my little two cents.
You reminded me of the actual hunger feeling (run away on the streets haha). It is true however and thank you for reminding me and my stomach thanks you.
Sometimes eat because it's a pleasure. When I'm on a diet, after sticking to it for a few days, I just want the pleasure of eating more than I have been. I try to focus on how the temporary pleasure of going off program will cause depression and shame later. Sometimes it stops me. I need a way for it to stop me more often.
I like this, really I do, I used to eat alot when I am not hungry But now is different. Now I am forcing myself to eat. Cause if I didn't, this would my diet. 3 Oreos 1 ramen cup noodles 1 Soda Water.
Your information is really helpful. After watching this video, I could sense what is real is hunger and what is mouth hunger (Emotional Hunger)....I could sense it and I have ability to stop over eating now. But few people couldn't stop due to their addition towards mouth hunger. They may need Hypnotist or Psychologist to fix their minds. If you have videos for tools to fix how to stop eating in emotional hunger, please share it. Thanks for great information.
Hey Danni, pls share when we know it's not actual hunger but we want to keep something in our mouth , .... I experienced after stopping sometime rationing I tend to overeat and feel guilty later
I'm not a huge breakfast person and tend to get hungry around 11-1pm. I usually eat my lunch around 12 and then dinner around 5pm. I've read eating so far apart slows down the metabolism. If I listen to my hunger and follow this same schedule would that actually make me gain weight because my metabolism isn't burning food earlier or more frequently throughout the day? Great tips, I'm going to pay attention to my hunger more closely.
Im always like damm i kind of want some black bean noodles and 3 eggs right now and then im like no ill gain weight. I still go to the kitchen to eat them because I feel like if I dont eat it I will not fall asleep
Great video! Not sure if you have covered this before, but any chance you could discuss inflammatory food and how they affect the body (i.e. hunger, digestion, etc)? Very interested to get your views on dairy, for example.
So I’m totally in the category of “hungry in my mouth”. So how do you deal with that? Is there a tool to overcome that obsessive want for something in your mouth? The tip of setting an alarm, drinking water, or distracting yourself doesn’t really apply to obsessive thinking. Are there any true tools for the food addict?
My main issue is that sometimes i just think about food and want it, and i dont know how to stop myself from going and grabbing said food.
Change the habit! Whenever this feeling arises go make and drink a cup of tea immediately (for example). Your brain will connect the new action to the old impulse
@@maja__5047 totally agree! I often get green tea , its a little bit bitter (what i personally Like) and really helps
OMG SO TRUE SISTER🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Me too , I always think about food and I love eating I can’t stop eating even if I’m full I can’t help myself 😭

Drink water! When you can't tell if you're hungry or not, drink some water. You might just be thirsty. Also drinking a full glass of water before you eat can help with portion control.
Great practical tip!! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! This is going to help me! Thanks so much!
BUt drinking water before and after meals are not good for digestive system, so we need to drink hot water after every meal to loose weight!
Shravani Kumari the accurate advice is you should drink water 30min before your food, and 90min (an hour and a half) after you finish eating. That way you don’t harm the digestion and give your body enough time to finish processing the food.
Sometimes if you're tired and or sleepy it tells your brain that you're hungry... So, get some rest.
yes!! 100% agreed.
I so agree with that sometimes if I'm up late. That when the munchies come.
Glammom 137 yes! My 3rd toddler does this...when he's tired he wants to snack constantly
Glammom 137 truueee
So true, whenever I'm tired the desire to overeat is so strong!!
Wishing everyone who reads this and suffer from emotional eating/hunger because of stress/depression/anxiety/grief etc. I hope you'll overcome this situation!
I need this bcs I stress eat a LOTTTTTT!

No you just a fatty
I’m doin this too till 12 to 13 hrs it’s fine but then goddd my brain my stomach is shouting like a bitch🥴🥴
Come to think of it🤔... If I wake up in the morning and brush my teeth, the hunger I was feeling since I woke disappears so I sometimes skip breakfast. This would really help with resisting the urge to eat something even when not hungry. I will sure use it and see how it goes. Thank you for this 😄
My tip is... don't watch recipe videos on youtube if you're hungry 😃
hahaha
I do this all the time like Facebook and other apps but I'm going to stop😂
TezAllez don’t watch buzzfeed tasty
or any grocery shopping haul :)
Thanks i was hehehe
This is one of the clearest explanations I've ever heard about "emotional eating" and being able to differentiate it from legitimate physical hunger. Thanks and great work, Dani!
"I want something in my mouth" 😶 sorry I had to 😂
I read your comment before I got to this in the vid and my thought was... What's up with Sydney? Lol😂
Chew suger free gum

Hello my friends! After posting my last Food For Thought (How To Lose Weight Without Dieting) I had a lot of questions about how to tell the difference between 'real' and 'fake' hunger. So I am sharing three tools that helped me learn the difference so I could stop eating when I wasn't hungry. Would love to hear your thoughts and questions down in the comments below. XO
Clean & Delicious thank you, thank you, thank you. You're changing lives with your wisdom and kindness! I'm so glad I found C&D. #fangirl
Clean & Delicious plz make video on kids healthy lunch box
❤ thank you thank you so so much I really needed
Very well put.
This was very helpful 🌸 I always tell people that I’m not hungry and I eat when I think about food: that’s the reason why I am overweight.
But it never occurred to me that I need to listen to the cues my body gives. I know it sounds stupid but no one told me how to identity hunger.
i eat emotionally because i have crippling depression
Yeah dude I eat too much when I suffered from depression and anxiety to distract myself from this 😔😕😒
I am literally watching this video because I've been eating out of stress and exhaustion for the last 3 days.
Same, I need help. I weigh 150-160 pounds at age 11.
I tried going on diets four times yet I keep failing. My dad lost a lot of weight but I didn't.
Zaharia Sari do you not get heartburn with eating and then going to bed like that?
Zaharia Sari hey sweet, I strongly recommend researching and doing a parasite or candida cleanse, if your hunger is making no sense to you then it's likely that it's something else inside that is hungry. A good herbal parasite cleanse may be the answer for you, and I promise you a HEAP of people have a degree of parasites or candida in their bodies!
A good start would be to release all refined sugar from your diet ❤️ much love!
Your timings are not good babe
Quarantine has me sleeping three days in a row then eating when I’m bored bc I have nothing else to do 🥰✨🦋
As a student this is impossible lol the days that you skip the lecturers will give us assignments 😂🤧
This video gave me actual tools I can use to determine hunger levels. Thank you so much for this.
Hey
Wanted to share many times your feelings hungry when your not hydrated
This has been huge for me and when I get a good amount of water in me my hunger subsides and I don't eat till hours later
Hope this helps and I LOVE what your doing on TH-cam
Hugs

A couple of months ago, I starting setting my alarm to eat every 3 hours, that has really work for me. Now I am never really hungry and rarely over eat. Sometimes when my alarm goes off I just eat a banana. That is just enough to stop me from over eating later. I eat so much less at each meal now and I can concentrate on eating healthy food this way too. I have no will power so this strategy has really helped me.
MyEveryDayWifeLIfe great idea and so simple! I am definitely going to try this 😀
Merrideth Hawk Awesome! Let me know how it works for you! Plus it keeps your blood sugar levels even keeled all day which helps with weight loss.
Frequent small meals lead to diabetes. Your insulin levels are always high. You might lose weight but there are skinny diabetes as well.
@@theaniqa99 This is utter nonsense LOL Cite your source.
4. Chew gum
Thank you for the part where you mentioned the mouth hunger instead of real hunger in the stomach. That is a real helpful explanation and tip.
I liked it when she explained her psychological hunger in her stomach vs. her emotional hunger in her mouth. I related to that a lot
Great video- I read somewhere that "if you are not hungry enough to eat an apple, then you are not really hungry". I find that to be very true for me. I use that as my litmus test :)
Simply Neater thank you I actually needed to hear this
The average teenage girl. المراهقة العادية ikr i love apples food in general maybe hungry enough to eat an onion or ginger 😂❤️
Maybe ask yourself if you could eat broccoli or something
Good one lmao. I'll change it to if I'm not hungry enough to eat an onion/cabbage/brocolli ...then I'm not hungry
If you don't have much time:
1. If you think you're hungry, but you're not really sure, you're most likely not actually hungry
2. Learn what real hunger feels like for your body
3. Try locating where your feeling of hunger is in your body
However, I would recommend watching the whole video, since it's very informative and easy to understand
I eat for no reason, right now went to whatat burger and bought food for no reason. This started like 6 months ago and I’m starting to gain weight.
Played this for my wife and I got a "Thank you!" for it. Good on you, Dani
Do penises
I really like how you said it's about control, and knowing why you're putting food into your body
Kat May .
Hi i am trying to loose weight and have no idea how to have any tips and tricks ?
@@nikitacloete5847 caloric deficit but make sure you eat the right things too
This changed my life, thank you. I no longer feel cravings like I used to and I'm hoping it keeps up!
Tysm!! This really helped I didn’t eat until 3:30 today:)
Yes! Love promoting good but also individualised eating habits. This was so helpful... I was abt to make brunch but realised I was only eating because I thought I should, not because my body needed it
Thank you so much. I searched for this because I'm in a real struggle and trying to put my self back together . I will definately try this
Thanks for sharing this info, so there are many of us who struggle with how to control craving (eat / overeat when you are not hungry, just the lust / craving for certain food which are usually unhealthy).
Lots of exploring to do. xo
Thanks for your help! I love your channel!
I no longer have issues with binge or heavy duty emotional eating, but have struggling with exact issue for a couple of months. I found your suggestions very helpful. Thank you.
This was so helpful, great tips! I honestly love to actually feel hungry and than I enjoy my food a lot more and eat slower to savor every bite. 😊
Your video has come at the perfect time for me. I am reevaluating my relationship with food and realized I was stressed over thinking about what to eat and planning and was just exhausted. I now have a different approach and I am learning what full means to my body and listening to it. Thank you
Yes! Great awareness. We have to find ease on the journey or else we are literally contradicting our efforts. xo
I've heard "tips" that you should eat every 2-3 hours so you don't get really hungry and over eat. What do think about this Dani?
Wow such empty
Great video! The next step (which I'd also love to see a video on) is how to avoid emotional hunger/resulting eating once you know the difference!
So easy to say right? I want to eat while im watching this video seriously
Love this! Shared in a Binge Eating help group on Facebook.
This was great 👍🏻 I'm there now-so tired of the mental energy I use up thinking of what to do for my next meal etc!!😬👸🏼
Thank you!
I don't even want to lose weight, just reduce bloating bc I eat a lot
Thank you for clearing up where the real hunger comes from!
I'm always hungry in my mouth. This really helps. Thank you
I eat candy when I'm not hungry I keep eating when I'm fool I stop mid way into puking I just wanna say i only do this sometimes one minute it's out in the open and you won't be able too eat it if you refuse it but but guys dont just stop eating when your about too vomit stop cause your hunger pangs are satisfied words of wisdom have been planted
Wow just what I need yes I'm not hungry but unable to stop eating but it is immotional hunger
This video is great! Just what I needed now, I'll put it into practice starting today, thanks so much!
I think it covers a myriad of emotions...lately it has been the emotions associated with my upcoming empty nest.
My husband doesn't understand It sucks :(
Don't stop trying. We will not be defeated! We will keep on making the effort. I'm still down almost 80 pounds :)
I usually brush my teeth and listerine after my last meal. It usually stops me eating later because I am to lazy brush my teeth again. 😆
Thank you Dani. I needed to hear this as I'm trying to change my mindset of eating and getting back to my healthy self.
Dani on point AGAIN! One of my indicators is when i get lightheaded or get a slight headache .. then its time to have a healthy dani spies snack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't keep trigger foods in the house, that way laziness will keep you from eating them
You can order food on your phone
I live with a large family, so sometimes I find myself trying to eat my food before my little brother or older sister gets into it, and I end up eating all of it. :| (they are big portions)
This is just what I needed to listen to. When I think about the times I want to eat it is more in my mouth than my stomach.. Also I have always heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day shouldn't we be eating it?
oh my gosh you need a podcast
I do have a question .now I always wait to eat in the morning when I first wake up that's cuz I got to take my medicine in the morning and I have to do it on an empty stomach now sometimes I wait too much or I get dizzy and cranky before I eat so. my question to you is there a sweet spot that I cannot find anywhere it's time to eat because wait until I get to dizzy that I can't control my hunger ?
Great information and communicated well thank you. Looking forward to watching more thank you.
Great video! Now can you do several videos on how to stop eating when you are full? I need sooo much help in this area
Great video. Can you do a video on controlling weight gain due to binge eating please.
I needed this video more than you know.
XO - i just love the 'right thing at the right time' :)
I always thought that putting off eating for more than 3 or 4 hours, throws off your metabolism. There are days when I honestly don't feel hungry until late in the afternoon.
this was a revelation. thank you... love from fiji
Would you do a video on intermittent fasting??? I hear so much about it but is it actually beneficial??? HELP US DANI!!!
That was on of the best explanations I’ve heard
Walking helps me with hunger and depression. Try it😊💕
You reminded me of the actual hunger feeling (run away on the streets haha). It is true however and thank you for reminding me and my stomach thanks you.
Thank you so much for this, this will greatly help🙏
Really helpful, thanks a lot for the video...
Sometimes eat because it's a pleasure. When I'm on a diet, after sticking to it for a few days, I just want the pleasure of eating more than I have been. I try to focus on how the temporary pleasure of going off program will cause depression and shame later. Sometimes it stops me. I need a way for it to stop me more often.
when I'm hungry i get headache , sometimes my stomach growl but i don't feel hungry idk if i should eat or not
I like this, really I do, I used to eat alot when I am not hungry
But now is different. Now I am forcing myself to eat.
Cause if I didn't, this would my diet.
3 Oreos
1 ramen cup noodles
1 Soda
Water.
No, but if I did that.
Do you do intermittent fasting? What do you think of intermittent fasting? Is it good for us or not?
This is so inspirational
So glad it resonated!
Hey Danni, pls share when we know it's not actual hunger but we want to keep something in our mouth , ....
I experienced after stopping sometime rationing I tend to overeat and feel guilty later
Great video!!! Never thought about the third tip!!! Makes sense
Thanks for this video dani! I really needed this... 🤗💜
I really like this topic. It is really helpful. Thanks.
