Anyone else think it's funny how people are oggling over crossovers for *practicality* but never considered how much more usable a wagon is in almost every way? I made a chart on cargo space, load floor height, ground clearance, etc and the numbers don't lie
Most crossovers are some of the biggest scams in the vehicle industry. Many claim it's because they are good on snow, yet many cars like the subaru wrx and the audi quattros will outperform almost all crossovers in the snow. They also claim that it's the best of both worlds, yet they get lodged up or trashed on any dirt road because of lack of a good awd, unibody frame, and over confidence. Not to mention they dont have the turning confidence or performance a car has to offer. 0-60s of most crossovers are very lack luster.
It's a shame you guys never tested the Taurus SHO model because it definitely "does it" for me. It's the definition of a sleeper. And not everyone wants a SUV or Crossover (and I love SUVs, the real kind) so it does need to exist, not to mention that it was their only performance sedan.

These are just names. All these cars can be brought back from the dead when the market changes, and the market will shift when gas prices fly through the roof again (god forbid.)
Gas prices look to remain steady for some time. The US market isn't as susceptible to a sneeze in the Middle East or Venezuela like it used to be when domestic production was lower. A hurricane or pipeline rupture can cause a short term spike, but nothing that lasts more than a few weeks.
wisenber no, what’s going to happen is Ford and GM are going to see the sales they threw away going to foreign automakers instead of into their ho hum crossovers and bring a lot of them back. For example, here lately I’ve seen a lot more Subaru Imprezas and Crosstreks on the road than Ford Focuses.

as an auto mechanic for 32 years i can tell you flat out that starting in the 90's GM literally screwed themselves over with bad decisions and poor designs. one of their very bad decisions was skimping on part costs in thier steering and suspension. when you have impalas and monte carlos having steering part failures at 20k miles something is seriously wrong. and lets not forget the intake manifold gasket failures in the v6 engines in those same cars.
The Corvette didn't die. It just reinCARnated from muscle-car to super-car. I can understand the guys that are upset about the nastalgia lost on it but you guys have 60 years worth of old cars to pick from if you want to drive a front engine Corvette. It's time for Chevy to get on the world stage of super-cars.

I had a feeling the Corvette was heading that way.. guys it's because they are now actually competing with Lamborghini and Ferrari I think... I mean you can get a Corvette go that fast look that good and have it for that much less.. I welcome the change I think it's pretty awesome!!
JP kingpin: It is only competing with them for people who don't buy them. If you want to buy a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, you are buying the status more than anything. For 90% of the customers performance comes second, third or even further behind it. Now (to me) the Corvette looks like a cheaper copy of those cars. The corvettes before that were their own thing, no copy. (Lotus was for a long part very close to their perfomances but sold so few cars that they always scratched at bancruptcy. If people would buy those cars for performance that would not have happened)
That's pretty funny.. I mean they have legitimate turn the Corvette into a hypercar now guys if you are in a realm of which color lambo should I get you are doing great however for someone who can max out at 100 thousand this change is beyond amazing! Think about it for the common people who don't really know much this thing could be European to them but who cares now America has it's very own hypercar in my opinion so cheers and drive safe!
If GM really wants to save Buick they need to make the regal rear wheel drive again, make them cool looking like they did back in the the day, they could re-designed the 1987 Buick regal GNX and make it more modern and put that back out on the road.
This was great, thank you! Such a shame that so many beautifully designed vehicles are going while all-plastic looking models like the Mazda CX-30 are coming in.
0:56 As an owner of a 3series GT, I can tell you why you "need" or rather want one of these. The GT is based on the long wheel-base 3series that is only sold in China. That means it has lots and lots of legroom in the back, more that most SUVs. Moreover, believe it or not, it has a larger trunk than the wagon, which, despite the roofline makes it more practical. Combine that with a pretty reliable diesel and you got yourself a car that lives up to its name: Gran Turismo And I don't really understand your problem with the design. I know to each its own, but it's definetely not an eyesoar and far more elegant than the X4 or X6.

The Golf All track is going to be missed that platform was really good, the guys over at ShopDap really showed that you could have a track car and an off road rally car all on one platform without much modification. One of the biggest problems I saw is the dealers never seemed to have more then 1 or 2 total at any one time.
the Volt is one of the best cars GM has made. The main problem was big on the outside small and cramped on the inside. That is the problem with having two fully functioning drivetrains. GM should have used the body and or looks of the Volt for the Ugly Bolt. The Volts time has passed. It still was an excellent reliable concept. How GM managed to make such a complicated beast so reliable is still a mystery to me.
I hope they re-use the platform. Volt owners LOVE their cars. And as you mentioned, they were reliable, somehow... GM seems to be in kind of losing their way... discontinuing all these cars... others are too, but GM is losing the most... Honda, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai are still selling plenty of sedans... poor quality, marketing, closing all the manufacturing facilities after that huge bail out? I bought exactly one Chevy. After that experience, I was done. Brand new car, and it was awful.

Bought a charger R/T Daytona recently. Such a fun powerful family vehicle thats very affordable and has character. Winter is no problem with a good set of winter tires. Love it.
But, you're not supposed to love it. It is supposed to suck, you know? It's not just "American" that makes it suck. Or being a Mopar product that makes it suck. It is an FCA product, so it absolutely, positively, has to be horrible........ So I was told back in 2016 when I bought a Dodge Challenger with the Pentastar V6. It didn't suck. On the contrary, it was fantastic for road tripping. 33 mpg average at 80 mph for the 1,550 trip to my mom and dad's place in California, with slightly better fuel economy on the return trip. With 305 horsepower and a nice flat torque curve, the thing had no trouble getting out of its own way. Very comfortable cruiser. And it was 100% reliable.
I have a 2019 Crosstrek and battled with this tire and lift thing myself. Preformed well last winter with a lot of snow covered road driving, which is what I need. Puts some mods like a roof rack and bigger mud flaps and called it good. Wishing for a more aggressive tire that’s the same size as stock. Not an off road tire but rather an all terrain would keep me happy:)
Sorry see Taurus go. Had a 2011 then bought a 2018 and enjoyed the car. Big no doubt but not overly huge on inside which I like and very comfortable and reliable. Maybe by time want get a new car hope it be back.
American car companies getting rid of their small cars is a big mistake. They are going to drive all of the first time car buyers to Hyundai, Kia, et al. When those people go to buy their first CUV, SUV, they won't be back to Ford and Chevy.
Yep, when my Focus needs to be replaced -- it will probably be a Forte or Elantra. I won't even bother going to the Ford dealership -- all they offer are trucks/crossovers and I'll never drive one.
Happened to me already. When I was ready to replace my commuter, I was disappointed in what was offered by GM, Ford, Chrysler and a few others. Ended up in a Hyundai store. I’ll probably replace this one with another Hyundai.
The numbers were too low to reason the lineups. Ford and Chevrolet simply concentrated on what sold most and now they both invested in electric technology... Not many wanted the small cars that were always falling short of something Japan, Korea and Germany had. Look at the good part, all these discontinued cars will be cheaper used since they aren't under any serious demand... minus the Corvette, that will probably hold its ground.
I wouldn’t be disappointed if they disappeared into oblivion. That being said a lot of people pay their bills working for them so it would probably be a fairly large blow to the economy.

They also claim that it's the best of both worlds, yet they get lodged up or trashed on any dirt road because of lack of a good awd, unibody frame, and over confidence. Not to mention they dont have the turning confidence or performance a car has to offer. 0-60s of most crossovers are very lack luster.

as an auto mechanic for 32 years i can tell you flat out that starting in the 90's GM literally screwed themselves over with bad decisions and poor designs. one of their very bad decisions was skimping on part costs in thier steering and suspension. when you have impalas and monte carlos having steering part failures at 20k miles something is seriously wrong. and lets not forget the intake manifold gasket failures in the v6 engines in those same cars.

As the design chief told Jay Leno on Jay Leno's Garage. Physics dictated the change.
Combine that with a pretty reliable diesel and you got yourself a car that lives up to its name: Gran Turismo

American car companies getting rid of their small cars is a big mistake. They are going to drive all of the first time car buyers to Hyundai, Kia, et al. When those people go to buy their first CUV, SUV, they won't be back to Ford and Chevy.
Gary Crispin There is a lot of truth in your statement.
Go look at sedan sales numbers regardless of the brand they're going down
Is GM bringing out anything substantially new other than an updated truck? Or are they starting to go away AGAIN?
I wouldn’t be disappointed if they disappeared into oblivion. That being said a lot of people pay their bills working for them so it would probably be a fairly large blow to the economy.

Andrey pokes out from the back with his Russia hat and says” no I’m actually Comfortable” funny AF
I am extremely sad to see the Cruze go, I’ve owned 3 since 2012. All by choice in upgrading and refreshing. I’ve got my 2019 and now I’m worried if something happens to it that I won’t be able to get a new one to replace it. With 500k miles between them all currently I have had no issues. I guess I’ll have more consideration to do when I have to move on from a platform that’s treated me so well.
I have a 2011 Smart passion and only have 115,000 miles - I love it! I love spending $20/week in fuel to drive 68 miles/day for work (I avg 44 mpg highway) as a single commuter. Yes, they are 'quirky' but overall - no worries. I have always said Smart marketed to coastal cities when they should have marketed to people out west where the weather is moderate and long distances between towns! I live in a town of 4,000 - has 2 smarts - and work in a town of 20,000 (w/ a military base) and there are 5 smarts that I have seen - it must be a higher ratio or smarts. My other vehicle is a '95 F-150 .... gotta have something to haul the horses ..... LOL!
