    How did I miss this Prof KVN piece for such a long time. Since I was a lecturer in an Engg college I add Prof for him whenever I address. And he indeed professed music as much as I professed Mech Engineering. TRUE VIDWAT

    There is so much Bhava is this rendition that I find myself tearing up every time I listen to it. Kapi ragam is deep KVN territory! There's nobody better suited to sing in this ragam.

    Everytime I hear this song by Dr.KVN I couldn't control my tears. Even to think of his rendition of this song moves me.

    I have playedthe tambhura many a time for this immortal artist. He left us in 2002, emotions and tears well-up everytime I listen to this kruthi. As some one commented kapi raga is kvn's territory. Hands off.

      @@geethasrinivasan3491 Yes Bhairavi (Balagopala), Kaapi (Inta Sowkhya...), but also Todi (EnuDhanyalo, Sarasijanabha), Charukeshi (KripayaPalaya), Behag (Kandu, Saramaina), Keervani (Damodara) and yes, practically every Raga. As for Shankarabharanam, even MSS declares him the master - see comments from her kids th-cam.com/video/jryZ0faLxN0/w-d-xo.html

    I am a Kannadiga, and she strictly followed the exact pronunciations as composed by purandaradasa. I'm not even a huge MS fan, but it is annoying to see people say that she mispronounced words when it really isnt true

    I do not appreciate people talking about some things which are totally useless. A true singer sings a song making it his own. This rendition from KVN is one of the best another rendition is at a live concert at Mysore where UKS has accompanied which are at its peak in terms of involvement and Bhakti. Mel kalam in Paramapurushana is well.. not a preferred pace. But it is called Manodharmam. Its at the artists discretion what he should do at what point.

    Dear friends, I have known KVN personally and intimately He has told me himself that he taught this song to MSS as Mr Sadashivam heard him in a concert and the next day he sent a car with the request to come over and teach the song.
    The original song is sung by B S Raja Iyengar. He, despite being a Kannadiga, has mispronounced the word makkala as magugaLa. So that has stuck!

    One of my most favorite doyens of Karnatik music...This great work of purandaradAsa gets the best treatment in terms of the rAga vishleShaNa (the rendition and extrapolations on the allowed notes of the 'dedicate' scale for the fervent rAga - 'kApi'). As far as the closeness, diction and authenticity towards the kannaDA language, Smt. M.S. Subbulakshmi scores higher (Listen to her rendition and the separation of words (as in Jagada + uddhAraNa) and adherence to language for its own nuances...

    Hi Haribol100,
    It appears that you are a Kannadiga or more closer to the language than I can ever claim any 'command' or 'supremacy' in that plane for any reason. Among the folks who have ventured to render the irrepleaceable works of shrI purandaradAsaru (THE initiator of Karnatik music!), MSS stands out the best (based on documented records of her taking every effort to maintain the dignity of the language of the kIrtana involved).

    If the comment on pronunciation is made in right spirit, then it is ok. else, get vattal to stop non native singers from singing native songs in KA. this crib about "purity" of pronunciation is idiotic.

  • @srimridangam
    @srimridangam 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Except for a slight mismatch of the kalapramanam of kvn and the mridangist at some point, everything else is pretty sowikiyam. I am only in disagreement with the mel kalam in the charanam "paramapurusha". Otherwise, the playing is very refined.
