This krithi is on Sri Chamundeswari The Chamundi Temple on top of the Chamundi hills is the most famous temple in Mysore, since Goddess Chamundi or Chamundeshwari is the presiding deity of Mysore. She is the tutelary deity held in great regard for hundreds of years by the royal family of Mysore. Initially the temple was small, but over the past few centuries, as a result of the aids and development made by the Mysore Maharajas it has become a big temple. In the ancient times, human and animal sacrifices were often made at this temple, but were stopped in the 18th century. The temple of goddess Chamundeshwari is a Shakti Peetha or powerful energy centres, and one of the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas of the world. It is also called Krouncha Peetham because the area where it is located was known by the name of Krouncha Puri in the Vedic Era. Skanda Purana, the holy ancient texts, talks of a pious place known as Trimuta Kshetra which is believed to be enclosed by eight hills and Chamundi Hills is believed to be one of those eight sacred hills

A raga that is suitable for the mornings, exuding positivity and happiness, is Bilahari. Bilahari has beauty in asymmetry, and is an audava-sampoorna raga. It contains the notes sadja, chatusruti rishabha, antara gandhara, pancama, and chatusruti dhaivata in ascent, and the kakali nishada and the suddha madhyama in descent. The arohana and avarohana is SRGPDS/SNDPMGRS. The kaisiki nishada sometimes occurs as a bhashanga swara (foreign note), lending pep and freshness to the raga. Bilahari is known for the bhakti rasa that it pours forth, and in addition to classical kritis, several verses steeped in devotion are often sung as viruttams in Bilahari.
The classical compositions in Bilahari include ‘Na jeevadhara’ , ‘Kanukontini ’, ‘Dorakuna ’ , ‘Tolijanma’ and ‘Intha kannananda’ of Thyagaraja; ‘Sri Balasubramanya’, ‘Kamakshi’ and ‘Ekadantam ’ of Muthuswamy Dikshitar; and ‘Paridhanaminchithe’ of Patnam Subramanya Iyer. ‘Sri Chamundeeswari’ of Mysore Vasudevachar is a favourite of many artistes.
Ragas such as Bilahari are very unique and their signature prayogas are hard to miss. They stand out and, hence, it is quite easy to identify a Bilahari when one hears a good rendition that keeps within the rules of the scale. Due to the same reason, it is also difficult for film composers to compose a kriti that entirely conforms to the grammar of the raga.

K.v. Narayana swamy is like Honey with ghee after pooja prasad in empty stomach at pleasant morning. After listening KVN in 1977, to me he is ultimate in Carnatic music. He was introduced by master musicologist and my guru prof. S.K.Ramachandra rao who was a great admirer
silken soft voice adds to the mastery...the complete master of the complete everything..wonder how good would this be if recording systems were as good as today.
