@@ChrisHyde537 Yes! My princess parrot absolutely HATES toes as well. He also doesn't like fingers very much so I've always thought that maybe he sees toes as floor fingers.
I think alot of birds may think of them as looking like big fat juicy grubs, therefore will think "mmm, what a tasty looking meal", and instinctively try to eat them. I once got bitten by a wild, but relatively tame, sulfur-crested cockatoo, but was pretty to silly to put my finger out to it. My finger bled. It's actually in one of my TH-cam videos.
Warren552011 I live in Perth, and galahs are very native where I live we constantly watch them fly around the neighborhood, and not once have I heard anyone say stop being a galah.
Galah being a "galah"... That's why the Aussies call a daft person a "galah"! You watch their antics in the wild, and can't figure out how they've not gone extinct.
They're not a walk in the park! there very interactive and cute, but love to use their beaks and will bite. Their also very distructive and increadbly needy, if you have a hard time finding a large chunk of your day dedicated to having them out and about its not fair to them.
@Jim Bean Their deffinelty around the same size but as i have no experience with Goffins i can't say much, they do tend to be more prone to plucking ive heard.
Birds arn’t a regular bet. Unless you plan on taking care of it like a forever 4 year old don’t get one. They are not just simple property that you can go buy and flaunt.
for any parrot never think about getting just one. get a pair. they need to bond and i doubt any human can first of all be around them 24/7 and second connect on them on the same level. it hurts them more than you might think
One of the saddest sights is a galah waiting by its lifelong partner killed by a passing car. They mate for life, and will mourn their mate. On a happier note, my JRT used to love launching into a flock of galahs foraging for seeds. The swirl of pink and grey as they flew to the gum trees was a great sight.
I used to dislike birds as pets because I was afraid of them but my bf (now husband) owns a Galah and since then I've warmed up to them. We now also have 2 parakeets and a cockatiel. 😂
I never really thought about birds before, but I became a huge fan and feed the birds in my yard everyday. Squirrels too. I have a video of one that comes in my window for peanuts. I feed mainly sparrows and grackles (didn't know what they were until recently). Sometimes Bluejays and mourning doves and rarely a cardinal.
They’re definitely very underrated birds. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a cockatoo. I have had mine for 2 months now, and he’s a dream. He’s not constantly screaming like other cockatoos can be, and he’s so playful. He will roll off the couch screaming, and then jump back up and do it again 😂
They mate for life ...unless you are going to be there 24/7 and be it's mate...don't bother....or get a pair ....better still --> leave then in the wild !!!
We had a pet galah for 20+ yrs. Used to say "scratch cocky" to get tickles. Used to also say "watcha doin?" And "dance cocky"...and imitate my nan's laugh
My family would love a large cockatoo but we realize that they need a ton of work and are a bit too large and unpredictable, but we love our little pink boy, even if he can be a pain in the butt some times lol.
@@maplecritters5335 And he gets all the attention he needs. Sometimes I see videos in which someone has several parrots of various breeds, and the majority of the time they are in cages trying to get attention, while the favorite is out and showered with attention. OMG! I didn't know they came in PINK!!! How beautiful. Both of my brothers have had cockatoo's, among other birds, but they were all the same mostly gray.
As cute as toe biting looks lol. It’s sucks. I’d try distracting her or him by rolling them over or giving the tickle command. Because it likes the reaction it gets from you making sounds when it lunges for you lol
These birds are native to Australia. In Australia they are called a Galah. When watching them fly in the wild they never fly in a straight line. Because of this behaviour silly people are often called galah's; because they flip flop without any serious direction. They are very destructive because in their native habitat; the job of all cockatoos is to prune the woods or forest. They do not build nests, they nest in the hollows of dead trees.
Drama Rewards! Birds LOVE them. It's such an aggravating thing with birds. They seem to live for that sudden raised intensity and the sharp loud sounds and emotion that accompany your pain. I don't know how people deal with it in bigger birds. It's almost impossible not to react when they bite because it hurts like hell, but if you can, just quietly turn your back and leave, or silently return them to their cage, cover it, and leave for at least 20 minutes. Keep all sounds as quiet as possible during their time out. They will learn very quickly not to bite you.
Everything in Australia is wired for aggression, even when they are super cute. I’m not talking about the people but the fauna. I grew up with cockatoos, my mom liked them, and those birds used to abuse her so bad and she put up with them and they are so fickle. African Grays aren’t so erratic, neither are macaws.
I want a bird when I move out but the thing is I want a Galah. But I've been researching them and came to the conclusion that they need more attention that I can probably give them and I'm afraid that they would start plucking their feathers. Is there any other bird that would fit for an apartment? I would like a medium sized bird that likes to be interacted with.
Honestly for an apartment I wouldn't recommend many birds as even tiny birds can be very loud. That being said, I have a Quaker parrot and she is so quiet and well behaved. They generally are quiet birds. They CAN talk, but not all will as with any bird. Smaller than you're looking for, and a challenging species to raise. But I highly recommend looking into them. Mine is my best little gal pal!
I actually laughed out loud at the part near the end.
"Toes are delicate"
