@@patsfan4life i guess you never played the last ninja series ? I am going to sue the developers, they are the reason i went into adulthood with no hair !
The contrast in quality between those early ones like Choplifter (which looks like it was coded in BASIC) and the superb Creatures and Mayhem games which came around a decade later is vast. But anyway, thanks for uploading this video, it really brought me back in time!
I remember most of the early games on this video. I also remember the bus ride to town, going to a shop, choosing a game with the most exciting cover and reading it on my way home. Then waiting for it to load. The whole adventure from leaving home to playing my new game could be two hours! Thanks for this, it bought back good memories of a much slower time.
That's wrong. First Video racing game with splitscreen was Drag Race von Kee Games (1977) Developed for the Atari 2600 "Dragster" from Activision for the Atari 2600 (1980) also had a split screen.
When my father bought his C64, he gave me his Vic20 and a tape drive. He bought a lot of Commodore books and I read most of them. I eventually coded a game and recorded it to the drive "now lost". I eventually got his C64. I will never forget how 100% certain he was about the future of computers. He would tell me "computers are the future" and "soon there will be computers everywhere". His advice was for me to learn everything I could so that I could get a job working on them. He figured a computer tech job would pay well and there would be an endless supply of those jobs. He was a smart man.
Missing "Impossible Misson - EPYX) in this compilation. Now, that's a game nobody can forget. :) Great compilation. I remember almost all of the games.
This almost brings tears to my eyes! The Commodore 64 is the most awesome computer and gaming console ever built, no doubt! I've played nearly 20 of the games shown here, almost every game in this compilation until 1987 when I sold my beloved C=64 and bought an AMIGA (a decision I've come to regret many times). I also played the AMIGA version of a lot of the remaining games shown here. There are so many more awesome games I remember. Most notably Impossible Mission, Zaxxon, Uridium, Sanxion, Delta, Yie Ar Kung Fu, Way of the Exploding Fist, Rambo, Sacred Armour of Antiriad, WizzBall, Arkanoid and Last Ninja. Such a great era in gaming history!

I played almost every single one of these games. I believe that the magic back in those days was that we actually had to use our imagination a lot to make up for the pixel based graphics. What we could not get out of the game we created with our own mind and it somewhat made it more immersive.
Silent Service was probably one of the greatest (including modern games of that genre) submarine combat simulations I've ever played. I have very fond memories of that particular game
We went from this to the awesome capabilities of the Amiga. Up to the early '90s, it really looked like Commodore was going to lead the way in graphic and sound capabilities. It's really sad how the company crashed and burned.
Nebulus always blew my mind when I was younger. I was only 6 when this came out and it was jaw-dropping -- hell, even today you look back and marvel on how the humble 6510 was able to pull off that incredible tower rotation and the multi-layer parallax scrolling too.
4:34, lol one of my favourit :) grog. after that pitstop, I hope aztec challange will come and giana sisters, barbarian, elite, impossible missions, exploding fists, bmx, summer/winter games, raid over moscow, and many more :) thank you bob, you made my day
I just fired up my c64 last night for some retro fun. I can't believe all my games on my floppy disks still work. Pogo joe was a really cool qbert clone. The qbert along with alot of arcade ports were really good on the c64. Great machine for it's time.
I was one of those households that grew up with a Commodore 64, and an Atari. The commodore always had the newest and freshest games with graphics and sound rivaling the NES. If not crushing the NES in terms of quality. I really miss a lot of the old titles. So many memories. Glad there's audio in this. This video alone is firing up old synapses in my brain. Cool shit.
Genial el recopilatorio;había grandísimos juegos para esta super máquina,yo tuve el Spectrum que era algo inferior......Juegos como Rimrunner eran impresionantes!!
+Gab1975ita Thats a really great video, much appreciated for all the memories. I remember all of these from way back and still drag my C64 out now and then for a play of the good stuff and listen to the music. Well done, you've brought back a lot of very happy childhood memories from the good old days when games/music/imagination meant a lot more than it does today! :)
I liked Paradroid, but I felt that it was somewhat overrated...especially by Zzap. I agree with the rest of the games on your list though, although I like IK+ better than the original, and Last Ninja 2 was my favorite of the three LN games, well technically 4, if your count Last Ninja Remix.
The "sleeker" design" also had a lot of problems, particularly with the SID chip. I know, I had both models. The only reason why I had to get the C64C (the one that looked like the C128) was because my first one got damaged in a flood
Thanks so much for this upload! Brings back lots of memories of me going over to my cousin's house, playing computer games, smoking weed and watching porn......Ahhh, the good old days.
Impressive to see how games developed overtime from when independent bedroom programmers started working as part of a team with other members working specifically on other areas of the game I.e. Graphics and Sound. Before this, the game concepts were still impressive, but you could tell if the programmer sped through the music or design because they only had a basic inclination to want to develop further in the areas. The C64 remains a machine that challenges developers to squeeze everything they can out the 64k limit of resources available, and its great to see that there is still a very active development scene still going on today, it’s clear to see that people want to push the computer further and further 👍
I remember playing a car racing game at my friends house, with the steering wheel and gas pedal, I forget the name of the game, it must have been pit stop, wow does this bring back great memories.

I have said this about every system I've ever had, (particulary with regards to the Saturn and the PSX with the likes of Radiant Silvergun and RayForce) and I'll say it about the C64 - although my C64 was long gone in 1993, can you imagine if they had released Mayhem In Monsterland in 1983 instead of 1993? Well, sure, but developers need time to learn how to develop for a given platform and how to squeeze the most out of it, and that takes time and experience. It's like saying "What if we had TV in the 1800s" - it might be a fun thought experiment, but it's not practical.

Great video. Really illustrates the impressive technical advances made in C64 development.
It really gaves me some smiles in my face.... fade back to youth. Amazing :-) I played all of them ...
Awesome, you should do a whole series of these. I like that you actually show enough of the games to see how they actually play.

creatures, flimbos quest, the graphics on these games back then blew me away, the music on most games was so satisfying,

I had(still have) the sleek design back then and I favor it. The Boss joystick was the favorite. The TAC2 always had button problems .
Pitstop 2 was really good
p cha indycar racer 2 was awesome on x86
in hind sight areton sennas game on the master system was pretty brutal
So was Super Cycle
Also buggy boy, and grand prix circuit.
Pirates! I dont see this.. The best game in my c64!
