    Wow. I can really appreciate you so much more after seeing your work area. After I received my razor back from you and witnessed the process it had gone thru, I can really appreciate how much ya put into it. Thanks you Chris. I can't wait to send my next razor in

    You can smooth shallow pitting in brass by rubbing some copper wire on it.Copper gets embedded in the holes and stays there

      Back Roads Gold I would like to buy one of your razors but have never used a safety razor before so I do not know which one to choose. I have heard that the Gillette super speed is a good beginner razor that isn't too aggressive to use. Do you think that is the way to go or do you have another suggestion for me from your stock?

      Back Roads Gold I can also email you if that would be a better way to communicate about this purchase.

      I like the fatter handles for my big hands. The flare Tip SS has a bigger handle than the 40's style SS. I use the Flare and Aristocrat. I haven't tried yet but most of the plating I do for others are the Long Comb New's, just watched a video of a review of one, that guy loved it. And they are very nice looking razors.

    Would love to see more about cleaning the knurling. I have trouble polishing and cleaning the knurling and as you mention you don't want to knock the tops off of it. I've heard using a soft brass wire brush works but I'm reluctant to try it as I don't want to scratch the nickle off when just cleaning them up.

    • @BackRoadsGold
      @BackRoadsGold  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use several different methods, any thing with abrasion will take off the nickel. Glass blasting will strip the nickel but keep the knurling intact. Soft 3" or 4" wood mandrel brass wheels will polish the handles without striping the nickel, unless the nickel is very worn, then it will cause brassing.

    If I sent you a razor could you replace it in rhodium? It’s a Fatboy and a Slim adjustable. Both in great shape no pitting or oxidation

      @BackRoadsGold  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greg, all info on my website, www backroadsgold.com, Rhodium prices too high, don't have. I have palladium.

      @@greg6162 if you don't get 24k hardened gold, it'll rub off with your finger, it's color only, especially the 18k.

      @@BackRoadsGold I’m actually looking into buying my own setup so I can replate my personal collection but I don’t no the subtle nuances needed to replate. I’m hoping because my Fatboy and Slim are in great condition (no pitting) that I could maybe replate without taking it apart. My Fatboy is a E3 1959 but the quarter turn is very stiff and is probably on a 1/8 locking turn. I’m not sure because I just got my first adjustable last week so I shave very little point of reference. I love your videos and would love to be able to do this on my own. I want to buy old poor condition British razors and replate them… like the original British TTO Aristocrats that had thicker rhodium plating than their American counterparts

    Regarding the fat boy, how do you do two separate finishes on the same razor ?

    • @BackRoadsGold
      @BackRoadsGold  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tinman980 the razors come apart. The finish is done before the plating. Different finishes can be many combinations.

      fakiirification Replated razors range between $35 And $130 depending on model. The particular one in the video sold for $65 at auction. It costs $60 to $70 to replate when someone sends one in.
