My boyfriend introduced me to Gary Moore..its such a shame that my generation does not recognize talents and songs such as this. I always ask my boyfriend to play "the loner". He plays it so well and always gets me teary eyed. GaryMoores talent is undeniable, unmatched and his music will live forever.

I wish Gary had taken a bit better care of himself. But his playing was so sublime! His version of Still Got The Blues from that same concert was about the best I've ever seen him play on ANY video on TH-cam. Like I said, maybe he had an idea that he wasn't long for this world. I was playing a gig at the time of his death, a club where I had a strong following. Something in my head or my heart told me to play all my Gary Moore songs that night. So I did. Even the album tracks like Looking Back and I'm Too Tired got a run. But my gang wanted to slow dance so I played every Gary Moore Blues and Ballad I had, even The Loner (which I usually mess up) but that night I couldn't put a finger wrong. It was like everything just slotted into place for me. It was an early evening gig, I was finished by 9:00pm and it was local as well, 10 minutes from my home. So I hurried home and hit the weights. After dinner I went to bed feeling, I dunno, terrific I suppose, despite the lateness of the hour. A few hours later at 6:30am, my phone rang and it was my guitar playing cohort who is also a TV news cameraman. He rang me to tell me that Gary was dead; that he'd passed away through the night and in the morning his girlfriend couldn't wake him up. I worked out the time differential between Brisbane Australia and Spain, where he was holidaying, and I was actually on stage probably at the time he gave up the ghost. Take from that anything you want to take . . I'm not saying that I got a slice of his spirit or anything like that . . but it sure makes you wonder. I was in that heightened state of ability for well over a month before I felt it slip away and I was back to normal. But for that six or so weeks, it felt like I'd grown an extra finger and had my brain ability expanded as well. On this, the 10th anniversary of Gary's tragic passing, I just had to tell that story. I was in a huge depression slump for about a month following the news, but when I hit the stage . . WOW!! Full steam ahead!

Was the video you referred to in your post the Evening of the Blues? The one that came out shortly after the Still Got The Blues album, featuring Albert King and Albert Collins? Coming from a British Invasion Blues background, I couldn't get enough of that video! Totally loved it. I had it on VHS at the time. To my mind, Still Got The Blues, the album was right up there with the Beano album from John Mayall featuring Eric Clapton. Gary did cop a serious amount of flak for having the nerve to release a Blues album. But that was mainly from Blues purist journalists who considered themselves somehow the custodians of the Blues. We Blues guitarists absolutely loved it. Gary showed just what was possible when the best Rock guitarist on Earth decided to record a Blues album, incorporating everything he'd learned from two decades of touring the world playing hard Rock, having largely left behind his Blues roots prior to that. On a much smaller local scale, I re-emerged from 20 years of playing only in the Christian music scene while working a day job as a truck driver, to return to playing mainstream music in 1997, following a career-ending work injury. But I could still play, and I managed to turn my hobby as a double live gonzo guitarist into a new career as a full time pro musician. No one had even heard of me because the Christian music scene is so microscopic in comparison to the mainstream scene. I was big in Blues-Rock in the 1970s but that was too far back in time for anyone's memory! Because I had a full-on Rock style of playing I found it very hard to be taken seriously by my fellow Blues players. They did their best to ostracise me, but at all the Blues gatherings and jam sessions I was a crowd favourite. They'd even have their spies out to find out where I was playing in order to follow me in and try to turn the venue into a Blues jam session venue instead so that people who couldn't play a full gig were getting time on stage instead of a professional of far greater ability who needed to play at that pub to make his living! I write this to underscore how I sympathised with Gary when that sort of pettiness was happening to him on a far larger scale!
Whole thing was epic. That intro was just like "Hey I'm the best guitarist ever and I'm just gonna mess with your head" and then the ending with those drums, my word.
I've seen most of the guitar legends during my days but only one left me with a sense of total elation at the end of the gig, Mr Gary Moore at Hammersmith Odeon on the Still Got The Blues tour. One thing he has above other guitarists is soul, you can see and feel it, it's almost a religious experience. The whole crowd are on a natural high listening to his guitar weep, wail and scream it's tale on every tune. It's about time some recognition was given to this man, judge him on his guitar playing, nothing else is relevant.
The stinging tone, the never ending sustain and the soaring vibrato are sorely missed. Sadly, Gary never got the notoriety he deserved here in the states. Gary played the instrument like no one else before or since, man I miss his music!
The world lost one of its most greatest guitarist when Gary passed away. he played with such heartfelt soulful feeling that it was like the guitar was feeding your soul.
The man had so much alcohol in his body that his heart exploded, and he was bloated had a ton of water weight just imagine all the sugar, he had in his body the man literally drank himself to death anxiety and depression, can make a person ignore warning sign's he left behind a young daughter poor girl.
I'm 59 love heavy metal but when hear this by a man who made the guitar talk I shed plenty of tears died too young but left us with great memories thank Gary you're the best

I don't call it bad or not real - it's just boring and I'm writing this just because everybody is so amazed by it, there has to be some negative voices :) Eric Gales, for example, there is soul in that guy!
Genius. Pure genius by the master. I've heard them all Hendrix, Gilmour, Page, Vai, Van Halen etc etc. They could all play BUT this man had it all emotion, passion, soul, raw talent, sheer ability. The best I ever saw or heard. No argument. Fact ! RIP my friend.
In the words of my late father, Stevie Ray Vaughan could make a guitar scream, and Moore could make it cry. Imo no one comes close to these two in regards to raw feeling in their playing... it's amazing.

You can't hear guitar playing like that, have it hit you instantly like a ton of bricks and come back and say oh well. A legend who will live on in our hearts forever. His guitar playing leaves me breathless and feeling emotionally drained. I don’t think we’ll ever see another guitarist like Gary. I often visit his grave, it’s close to my home, just to say hi and silently thank him for the fabulous music he gave us. Rest in peace Gary. 🙏🏻💔
There are many flash players these days, technically brilliant, but they are missing the one vital thing - to make the guitar literally have a voice and pierce your soul. Gary made the guitar moan in ecstasy every time he played it. There’s a reason your feeling those tingles in your body when your hear this and that’s because he’s literally awoken the guitar making it guitar connect to your soul. Not many players can do this, they can play incredibly well granted, but there is another element to making the guitar literally speak, and Gary had that command over it.
So underrated, just because he didn't bow to any media, he didn't once use his talent to earn millions of pounds, he didn't compare himself to other musicians saying he's better than them, he didn't do a controversial interview - he didn't do anything that media wanted him to do - he got onto that stage, just so he could spread beauty in the form of sound, he gave memorable performances, he gave his heart and his soul to that guitar and the guitar gave it right back... Thank you Gary Moore, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have picked up the guitar and wrote my first song, I hope one day I could have at least half the talent you did... RIP
Still got the blues is not in any way a blues song. It is absolutely a melodic rip off of "Hello" by Lionel Richie, and I' m not a Richie fan I just understand.

When I play guitar, I have no emotions in my face, but every time I played one of his song, I can just feel the emotions in the song. What an amazing guitarist.
It’s Gary More and David Gilmore as far as getting emotion out of you as a guitarist. They are both amazing in their own way. I learned this song it took two months to get the notes. Two months to get the feel. And I still sound maybe half as good. That’s how good this guy was. Period.
My all time favourite guitarist before even Gilmour but what a shame he didn't get a handle on his weight and health....I think he was a genius and could have played for another 20-30 years...a terrible loss to humanity.

I sure hope that was the last show of the night cause I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to go on that stage after that performance. Not even EVH would want to do that! The man's playing was ferocious! Not many can use sustain so beautifully and that song is such a great example of sustain throughout.

Back in the middle of 80's had not known much about blues and Gary Moore until I met a girl from new Zealand in London. . She was only 17 on her own in London but new a lot about life and and music as she was listening Gary Moore, Jimmy Barnes and some other great musicians. That's how I got to knew and listened Gary Moore.. Couple of years later I've move to USA to NY and some time later in1989 I was in a snack shop to buy something, while "Still Got The Blues" was playing on the radio . I said to the guy at the counter " What a great song and a guitar" isn't it? He said "Yeah" He is Gary Moore.. As I am a guitarist I just started to listen him, he said... In fact that Gary Moore was not known well in the USA until "Still got the blues" published and hit the lists.. I said to the guy I have plenty of Cassettes of Gary Moore in my car at the parking lot and if you want to listen you well come. We went to the car and listen Gary Moore together..He was amazed as he listened some of his best songs. After all, as a guitarist he admitted and said " He is probably the best guitarist ever." RIP Gary Moore.

Words still fail me. Even after listening to him so so many times I still get tears in my eyes. Im a layman when it comes to music and especially guitar. There are loads of supurb players out there, but for me its only really Gary and Dave Gilmour that take the emotion further. When i hear Gary play my soul is taken away with such emotion. I love this song. I really love this song. It was a cold autumn day. We went to Düsseldorf to watch The Great Crusades, Tito Tarantula, The Leningrad Cowboys and Gary Moore. We weren´t prepared. The Crusades, The Cowboys and Tito did very well. By the time Gary entered the stage we felt very cold. He played his blues and we were not very excited. We stayed almost to the end of his show. As we went to the parking lot I heard his encore. I took my girl and turned around and walked my way back to the concert place, because I was so electrified by "Parisienne Walkways" and Gary´s magnificient guitar solo. The best I ever heard. It´s a pity. He went too soon.

A legend gone too soon.. I regret so much not buying a ticket for his last UK tour in 2010... At the time I was really tight on money but also reeeeallly wanted to see Gary live and almost spent some of the remaining £100 I had in my bank account for a ticket. I got as far as the checkout section before I backed out of buying.. then I decided 'I'll just go to his next tour' To this day I wish i'd spent my last bit of money to see him

Gary did cop a serious amount of flak for having the nerve to release a Blues album. But that was mainly from Blues purist journalists who considered themselves somehow the custodians of the Blues. We Blues guitarists absolutely loved it. Gary showed just what was possible when the best Rock guitarist on Earth decided to record a Blues album, incorporating everything he'd learned from two decades of touring the world playing hard Rock, having largely left behind his Blues roots prior to that.
On a much smaller local scale, I re-emerged from 20 years of playing only in the Christian music scene while working a day job as a truck driver, to return to playing mainstream music in 1997, following a career-ending work injury. But I could still play, and I managed to turn my hobby as a double live gonzo guitarist into a new career as a full time pro musician. No one had even heard of me because the Christian music scene is so microscopic in comparison to the mainstream scene. I was big in Blues-Rock in the 1970s but that was too far back in time for anyone's memory! Because I had a full-on Rock style of playing I found it very hard to be taken seriously by my fellow Blues players. They did their best to ostracise me, but at all the Blues gatherings and jam sessions I was a crowd favourite. They'd even have their spies out to find out where I was playing in order to follow me in and try to turn the venue into a Blues jam session venue instead so that people who couldn't play a full gig were getting time on stage instead of a professional of far greater ability who needed to play at that pub to make his living!
I write this to underscore how I sympathised with Gary when that sort of pettiness was happening to him on a far larger scale!
My holy god, what a monster. So much feel, so honest, he let people, including the musicians, in state of grace. What a talent!
Whole thing was epic. That intro was just like "Hey I'm the best guitarist ever and I'm just gonna mess with your head" and then the ending with those drums, my word.

I've seen most of the guitar legends during my days but only one left me with a sense of total elation at the end of the gig, Mr Gary Moore at Hammersmith Odeon on the Still Got The Blues tour. One thing he has above other guitarists is soul, you can see and feel it, it's almost a religious experience. The whole crowd are on a natural high listening to his guitar weep, wail and scream it's tale on every tune. It's about time some recognition was given to this man, judge him on his guitar playing, nothing else is relevant.

The stinging tone, the never ending sustain and the soaring vibrato are sorely missed. Sadly, Gary never got the notoriety he deserved here in the states. Gary played the instrument like no one else before or since, man I miss his music!
The world lost one of its most greatest guitarist when Gary passed away. he played with such heartfelt soulful feeling that it was like the guitar was feeding your soul.

One of the best guitar players of all time. I do not believe he was underrated, however. You can't hear guitar playing like that, have it hit you instantly like a ton of bricks and come back and say oh well. Just like Stevie Ray playing through this vessel of a guitar, you can hear just what a magical and glorious journey they were on. Thanks for taking us all along for the ride! Rip!

There are many flash players these days, technically brilliant, but they are missing the one vital thing - to make the guitar literally have a voice and pierce your soul. Gary made the guitar moan in ecstasy every time he played it. There’s a reason your feeling those tingles in your body when your hear this and that’s because he’s literally awoken the guitar making it guitar connect to your soul. Not many players can do this, they can play incredibly well granted, but there is another element to making the guitar literally speak, and Gary had that command over it.

So underrated, just because he didn't bow to any media, he didn't once use his talent to earn millions of pounds, he didn't compare himself to other musicians saying he's better than them, he didn't do a controversial interview - he didn't do anything that media wanted him to do - he got onto that stage, just so he could spread beauty in the form of sound, he gave memorable performances, he gave his heart and his soul to that guitar and the guitar gave it right back... Thank you Gary Moore, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have picked up the guitar and wrote my first song, I hope one day I could have at least half the talent you did...

It’s Gary More and David Gilmore as far as getting emotion out of you as a guitarist. They are both amazing in their own way. I learned this song it took two months to get the notes. Two months to get the feel. And I still sound maybe half as good. That’s how good this guy was. Period.

I sure hope that was the last show of the night cause I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to go on that stage after that performance. Not even EVH would want to do that! The man's playing was ferocious! Not many can use sustain so beautifully and that song is such a great example of sustain throughout.

Back in the middle of 80's had not known much about blues and Gary Moore until I met a girl from new Zealand in London. . She was only 17 on her own in London but new a lot about life and and music as she was listening Gary Moore, Jimmy Barnes and some other great musicians. That's how I got to knew and listened Gary Moore.. Couple of years later I've move to USA to NY and some time later in1989 I was in a snack shop to buy something, while "Still Got The Blues" was playing on the radio . I said to the guy at the counter " What a great song and a guitar" isn't it? He said "Yeah" He is Gary Moore.. As I am a guitarist I just started to listen him, he said... In fact that Gary Moore was not known well in the USA until "Still got the blues" published and hit the lists.. I said to the guy I have plenty of Cassettes of Gary Moore in my car at the parking lot and if you want to listen you well come. We went to the car and listen Gary Moore together..He was amazed as he listened some of his best songs. After all, as a guitarist he admitted and said " He is probably the best guitarist ever." RIP Gary Moore.

Words still fail me. Even after listening to him so so many times I still get tears in my eyes. Im a layman when it comes to music and especially guitar. There are loads of supurb players out there, but for me its only really Gary and Dave Gilmour that take the emotion further. When i hear Gary play my soul is taken away with such emotion. It was a cold autumn day. We went to Düsseldorf to watch The Great Crusades, Tito Tarantula, The Leningrad Cowboys and Gary Moore.
We weren´t prepared. The Crusades, The Cowboys and Tito did very well.
By the time Gary entered the stage we felt very cold.
He played his blues and we were not very excited.
We stayed almost to the end of his show.
As we went to the parking lot I heard his encore.
I took my girl and turned around and walked my way back to the concert place, because I was so electrified by "Parisienne Walkways" and Gary´s magnificient guitar solo.

A legend gone too soon.. I regret so much not buying a ticket for his last UK tour in 2010... At the time I was really tight on money but also reeeeallly wanted to see Gary live and almost spent some of the remaining £100 I had in my bank account for a ticket. I got as far as the checkout section before I backed out of buying.. then I decided 'I'll just go to his next tour'
