- After the war in Ukraine escalated in February 2022, Poland welcomed the largest number of child refugees from Ukraine. Among them, children in need of temporary alternative care are particularly vulnerable.
With biological parents, UNICEF works on the prevention of family separation, as well as to recruit and train new foster parents, and provide comprehensive psychological and social support.
The work carried out by Lodz municipality and the UNICEF Refugee Response Office in Poland was possible thanks to the financial support from the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) of Switzerland and the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM) under the United States Department of State, as well as private donors from around the world.
