Good luck honey.Stay strong! If for some reason things don’t work out there you might wanna consider moving upstate temporarily until you get yourself together and then go back to Harlem. I know the cost of living is steady going up everywhere but it’s really high in NYC. I’m praying for you.🙏🏽💕
Post us updates on your journey between the moon and New York City!!! Learning about your story yesterday, a random song lyric popped in my head that I’ll share with you here for encouragement : )) This bar is something to relate to: “I went from staring at the same four walls for 21 years…to seeing the whole world in just twelve months…been gone for so long, I might have just found god!!!” - Kissland, The Weeknd 05.17.2013 Xx
You got this girl! I can't say my situation was comparable to yours because thankfully I've always had my mother's support but we did had some hard times. The cost of living out here in CA is ridiculous like I know it is for you in NY. I've had a regular job since I was 15 and two jobs by the time I was 19 to pay my way through college. I could only afford to enroll part time so it took me like what felt like forever to finish but oh well. You set your own timeline for you. Access what resources might be available to you and give yourself credit for all the adversity you've already overcome at such a young age. Best of luck to you.
Praying for this young woman and hoping she makes it. She is a survivor but everyone needs help especially those without family. We need to be family to one another.
This is so sad. I love you sweetheart 😢. I can't imagine the fear of aging out of foster care but the hardest is how do foster parents just kick these kids out. People just obviously doing it for the money should not be foster parents at all. These kids should be family for life. I wish I could foster, they would be my kids forever.
The foster care system isn't adequately prepared to deal with the poor life decisions of a population. People want to blame the system instead of what causes kids to end up in care to begin with: people who have no business procreating. Until we address the root of the problem, the system isn't going to change much.
I think there should be an episode on child deaths in foster care group homes and foster and the lack of accountability, justice and the lack of data that tracks the death of children in state care. Whether it be foster Homes or juvenile detention or a residential treatment facility, mental health institution etc. nobody notices when one of us dies bc nobody cares nobody misses us it’s like we never existed.. y’all were supposed to keep those kids safe and by y’all I mean the state/county.. y’all failed so many children
Look my grand children were in foster care of they brought them to my house with nothing, in the way of clothes, and what they did bring was in garage bags! I'm looking for people to help me with a Christmas project " I M. N. T! I'm not trash!" I want to collect luggage for foster care children for Christmas!." Not used!" Can we get the word out 😂! ? 15000, Pa, kids in the system!"
I could die tomorrow and it wouldn't matter to anyone either and I've never been in the system. I had no party for my 21st either. I had to work the next morning.
@@chrissya8296 I don't know much about the New York system. Here in California the State has it arranged so that it is not in anyone's interest to foster or adopt. The system is corrupt and racist. The law here states that if there is a biological family member deemed safe by the State any prospective foster or adoptive family must allow that person access to the child. This often opens foster and adoptive families up to financial extortion from gang or otherwise criminally affiliated biological family members of the child. I'm of the mind personally that if a biological family member is "safe" then they should be the legal guardian because being poor does not preclude someone from being a good parent. Also in California there are many kids in the system from Reservations and California would rather keep the children as wards of the State than allow them to be fostered or adopted by non-indegnous persons. So, a lot of indigenous children remain stuck in the worst parts of the system perpetuating the poverty and racism of the Reservation. There are lots of young people who were never in the system who face similar situations to the one featured in this story. There is no law that requires a parent to support a child once they reach the age of 18. I've known plenty of people who were kicked out and cut off by thier families at the age of 18. It's a reality. I wish all those who work hard good luck. No one owes anyone else anything. That's what life has taught me. After all the work I have done in community out reach and with at risk youth it has left me with no family relationships or friendships. I've been assaulted and drugged and harassed by law enforcement. Wrongfully detained, robbed, and stalked. There has been little to no positive for me in the work I have done and as much as the State of California tries to coerce me into CASA and/or other volunteer activities, they have used me up. I wish you luck with your life. You're not in a unique situation, unfortunately. It's hard times we live in. Hugs.
I know the report mentioned an agency that is helping her, however this is the type of person you would want to have a Cashtag or a go fund me page so you could help her directly
Okay now document the 99% that don't get help after 21 and how if they don't ua e family it's straight to homelessness. Cause good luck getting a job that pays a livable wage
Heart breaking! Perhaps the young adults that have aged out could somehow join together.. Splitting rent and what not, and supporting each other so they're not so alone.
Every American needs this in order for the country to strive. Mylady, you are exemplary, formidable and deserve all the wealth and health coming your way. Be well 💯❤️
I know it's not an option for all foster youth, but after I aged out of the system I enlisted in the Air Force and that provided a job, housing, training and eventually a college education. I left the group home I was at the day I turned 18 since I wasn't going to stay there any longer than I had to and was able to couch surf until I graduated from high school. I wish more former foster youth were proactive about their future rather than waiting for services to help them.
I care I was there !! Look up ! We will solve this sick money making machine system! Wwg1wga!!! Stop the indentured servitude system that's legal!! Push push push !!

And now with Roe overturned the foster care system is going to be stretched even thinner. I feel so bad for these individuals.
That was one of my fears when I heard the news. The system is ready for more precious lives !
@Mimi Honestly I think it's disgusting that adoption is so expensive.
But I agree that families that can stay together should be supported better.
@@KKISCRAZYFUL adoption out of foster care is not that expensive
