Just wanted to share one story with you. I am Polish myself. once I was travelling in the train from Krakow to Wroclaw. The train was full of Ukrainian refugees since it was from the station at the border. I met in the train one lady with a child around 12 years old and a guinea pig. I asked them if they know where they are going. They didn't. It was their first time outside Ukraine, they didn't have anyone in Poland. They kept asking me what they should do. if they should go further to the West. I couldn't answer them. I just gave them my phone number in case they needed help. They called me after two days and told me they don't know what to do. I immediately called my family. My family welcomed them with open hands, they live with us for a year now, they are celebrating with us, they became part of our family. Just a random meeting in the train but it was destiny. BTW that kid is calling me sister now :D

I think Poland and Poles did amazingly well - the proof is that there's really not much to report of any issues other than psychological trauma that Ukrainians are dealing with. It might sound weird, but this shows how smoothly the help was provided, and how dignity of people in need of that help was preserved.

I've always liked Poland and used to work with a couple of Poles - awesome people, but still I didn't expect such overwhelming support and humanity when the invasion started. I remember watching a video by a Polish blogger in the first weeks of the invasion, sharing her feelings, crying and having _survivor's guilt_ because of what was happening to _us_ , as if it was her own personal tragedy. Back then, when so many people in Western Europe were still insisting that we were all being "too emotional" , "overreacting" and called on just "waiting a little until it's over", Poles were the only ones who understood the scale of the horror we had to go through, and the importance of resistance.
Luckily, I didn't have to leave Ukraine, but I'm still incredibly grateful to all Poles for saving the lives of my people. We'll never forget that unprecedented, unconditional support. ❤❤❤

But holy shit, now they are being murdered, raped and robbed by russians in unjustiified war. It's the worst time to make a problem out of it and drama right now. The problem is that even if we were the richest country in the world its not physically possible to build homes / create workplaces / social services for additional 4-5 million people (Poland has 38 million citizens) in such a short amount of time.
Poland is simply to small to handle that amount of people especially in such a small time window hence why the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, appealed to the EU and UN for support to provide accommodation to at least some of those Ukrainians. Hell, probably even the US with all the money they got and how big their country is would have insane trouble to provide housing and social services for additional 4-5 million people overnight.

Also vast majority of Ukrainians you have seen were most probably migrants and not refugees. Even before the war we already had millions of Ukrainians living and working in Poland. Actually Poland is a big reason why Ukrainian nation decided to rise up in 2014. They were coming to Poland, living here, working, earning good money and thinking "what the hell? you guys were at our level back when USSR fell and now I need to leave my country to work here cause it's so much better... Ukraine can be the same". We were their window on the West showing them that following Poland's steps brings peace and prosperity while being dominated by Russia brings nothing but hopelessness.

The crucial fact in this whole story is that in 1943 Polish people experienced a genocide which is now a taboo topic because the perpetrators were the Ukrainian Insurgent Army soldiers with the help of the local Ukrainian community. It happened in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia and the Ukrainians were then led by Stepan Bandera. 120.000 Polish people, mostly women and children, were murdered in the most drastic ways you can ever imagine. Now, knowing that fact, look how the Polish nation helps Ukrainian people despite the majority of them still glorify the leaders of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (Bandera). But Polish people don't care, they still help. Just imagine if Germans were still gloryfying Hitler, would Jews help them in need?

And this girl who just wants to come back home even though she lives pretty close to front line... Visiting Poland just to meet with her family, collect warm cloths and termos for their soldiers...
Each day im more and more impressed by Ukrainians. Russtards might have taken some of their lands away but they will never break the spirit of Ukrainians.

Honestly, that was the first time my country really made me proud. We Poles can't agree on one thing, but when we got the news, private, random people were offering whatever they could. I think the most heartwarming pictures were of carsits and strollers left by Polish parents, at the train stations at the border.
All of the Ukrainian people I've met (mostly as a Polish language teacher) were incredibly hardworking and selfless. A girl from the west left her job and husband and came to volunteer as a translator, a teenage boy worked his way into a good highschool while his mother was helping to get people through the country and the border. Women who came to our village started to look for jobs the moment they arrived and now work soo hard. They all want to go back, when it's safe and I think all Poles really admire that, especially looking at our history.

@Smiling Shadow I've traveled more than enough and I know our history. I'm not talking about the times when we sided with people in Haiti or stopped an invasion on Vienna, but about the times when our government sides with the church, takes away human rights and our people argue whether their neighbors should be allowed to live. About our people defending those who hurt children and hide it.
As much as Poland has great history, during my lifetime, there's not much to be really proud of

Due to the war initiated by the Kremlin, disguised as a special military operation, numerous Ukrainian citizens were forced to flee their homes and safeguard the lives of themselves and their loved ones. Various European nations have shown their readiness to receive refugees and their families, providing a safe haven for those in need. Consequently, Ukrainian citizens have relocated to foreign countries to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their children and elderly relatives.

Ukrainians had been coming to Poland for decades from all over Ukraine to work very hard in all sort of jobs in order to support themselves and their families in their homeland. Contributing to Poland's development, as they did in various countries across Europe and in America. They are well liked and valued and - after all - they are so closely related to Poles and their history is similar to that of Poles. And the pain and hurt they experienced in their past from the side of Russian Empire, Soviet Union, and now Russian Federation, is very similar to Poland's experiences. Surely, there had been dark chapters in Polish-Ukrainian relations, Poles didn't always treat them well and there had been innocent blood spilled on both sides, but seeing what is happening to them now, overrides any resentments in the vast majority of Polish people. When Poles see what Ukrainians are going through, we identify with them very strongly, and can't imagine standing aside and not doing anything to help. I hope the world will increase its aid and military support to Ukraine to help it to victory, and that Poland's and Ukraine's mutual relations will always bee good from now on.
