  • When you’re working on an urban design project, your clients need inviting and compelling visuals to keep them engaged in your process.
No matter how good your designs are, site plans and 3D models alone don’t give clients the confidence needed to make timely approvals so the project can move forward and you can get paid on time.
That’s why watercolor renderings are so well-loved in the urban design field.
They provide the right amount of warmth to illustrate the character of place you want to communicate, without being so precise that your client gets hung up on details often found in rigid computer drawings.
And now that watercolors can be done well digitally, they’re even easier to produce and edit alongside your design team as your project rapidly evolves from one week to the next.
    Hi, I’m Brian Lemmerman.
I’m an architectural and urban design professional with a lifetime of drawing and illustration experience.
I have an accredited 5-year Bachelors Degree in Architecture, and I’ve been a designer and illustrator for DPZ - the founding firm of the New Urbanism movement.
I’ve worked on projects in urban settings like Miami and Phoenix, small towns in several U.S. states including Utah and Louisiana, and internationally in Brazil and the Philippines.
I work best on New Urbanist projects involving neighborhood development, town design, and urban revitalization.
The projects I work on typically have a minimum 6 month timeline with bursts of activity during and immediately following intensive design charrettes.
What sets me apart from other illustrators in my field is my understanding of narrative and what sells a project both to your client and to their prospective buyers.
From concept through the end of design development, the illustrations I produce also come with Timelapse videos so your clients can more easily understand why certain design decisions were made as they literally watch the design process unfold during your presentations.
I now live in Germany and I do most of my work remotely for U.S. based clients.
My clients love the time zone advantage of sending me work at the end of the day and waking up to brand new sketches in their inbox, which helps their projects advance more quickly.
I’ve done remote freelance work since 2018, and I also thrive in charrette and collaborative team environments when we get to work together in-person.
Frequent travel is one of the ways I get to continue my education, and that experience is also one of the biggest assets I bring to your team.
If you’re looking for an experienced and agile illustrator to partner with your design team, I invite you to message me and schedule a brief 10 minute intro call.
I’d love to connect to answer your questions and learn about your project.
Thanks for watching, and I look forward to meeting you soon!

Wish I had these tools when I was studying landscape many years ago. It’s interesting what you can do with that and I hope the United States develops much better places that have community and walkability and also bike ability easier and safer 🚲
