Yes, my husband agrees he could listen to her for hours. He can't see her videos because he's visually impaired, but listening is like therapy to him. He used to help me in my tailoring shop so he understands what's going on. Many of these videos are informative for me. I'm retired, but still learning new things every day.
I agree. Please, give this woman a show! The instructions are so clear and concise, the situations for use of each method are easy to incorporate into each and every project. This was so helpful. Thank you!
I have seen at least 5 videos on how to do waist band ,THIS IS THE BEST!!!!!!I would use all three . I have at least 10 pair of pants i need to replace the waist band THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
I remember watching my Mother, sewing, making our clothes. She had bought a cam-type Neckie. I know I spelled that wrong. She made a double-breasted suit-coat for me, that looked professional. Pants, shirts, I have a picture where all three of us are wearing the same material. Same style shirts, different sizes, of course. Mom, Dad, and me, about 15 years old. That was over half a century ago. She did everything like a pro. Yup, I miss her, but I remember her using a big safety-pin, to put in the elastic or the tie-cords. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO. I SUBBED. Bill, from Tn. 🇺🇸
I use the second technique (with some variations) on PJ pants, yoga pants and other stretch fabrics. I use a casing on woven fabric with one additional step-rather than sewing the elastic ends together, I cut it at the correct waist measurement and use a small piece of woven fabric to butt the raw ends together and sew a small box the width of the elastic and about 3/4" wide. This eliminates the bulk of 2 layers of elastic at the closure.
The elastic that I sewed to scrub pants three months ago has twisted and now I know why! I will have to use a new piece of elastic and then stitch in the ditch at the seams. This video is great! Thank You!
It has been so long like years since I have sewn anything. I have so many alterations to do, and i thank you my dear for bringing back what I forgot to do. You are a great teacher. Keep up the good work.
I do use these methods but find it interesting to see a professional do them properly, having said that I had a skirt which is very old but perfect and I cut off the original waist and did an exterior wide elasticated waist and my family were very impressed with the result and now I can wear it again because it fit's 🎉
I like all three, but I was really excited about the third pair because I have a long rise and all pants are uncomfortable for me. I never thought about extending the top of pant, so can’t wait to try. Thank you for all three methods! 💕💃🏻
Thank you for the easy video on sewing elastic waistbands. I used the first instruction, worked out perfectly and I even sewed the label back in place so I could tell the back from the front of the pants.
Hi! I will do all.. I just finished 5 pair of pants for a friend. She bought a 1/4 inch waistband. She's 45 in waistband...So i told her it would be better with wider band... She said no. So i sewed them to her instructions... I pray its ok..Time will tell😮😮 Bonnie Ohio USA
Thanks! I'm going to turn a bunch of ill-fitting dresses into skirts, which I find easier to mix and match anyway, so I will probably be using all three of these techniques today!
I tend to use the first technique, but i have tried 2 and 3, never used twin needle though to sew it but i will from now on gives such a neeter finish, i always love your videos you really explain everything so well and its nice to know i am doing it corect aswell. Thank you again you are the best.
Very nice. The second is new to me. I do like a wide elastic at the top of pants, as I'm tall and long legged, with narrow hips and have constant issues with pants slowly sliding down while walking. Waist high pants make me look oddly proportined and anything low rise won't stay in place with a regular waistband. Thank God for elastic 😅 The double row of stitching from the twin needle makes it look very neat and professional.
Thank you for the instruction and entertainment! I find that elastic stretches out over the life of a garment so I always use the first technique so I can open and cinch up a bit at a later date. That soft elastic in the third option is really nice but very hard to source.
Oh my where have you been all my sewing life, so glad I have found your channel excellent now to binge watch thank you so very much for sharing entertaining to watch with simple steps❤
YOU are a great teacher! You explained so clearly each step for the three different ways! Thank you!!! Now, what if I don’t own a serger??? How do I put in the elastic as you did, NOT using a serger
Thanks! 💕 if you don't have a serger, you can use the overcast stitch on your regular sewing machine. Zigzag works also. Cheers 😊 th-cam.com/video/SEueQcX1Y6U/w-d-xo.html
I could actually do all of these!!! It's a miracle. I have only done the first one and tried the 2nd one but it didn't work because I cut my elastic way shorter than the top of the pants!! I see you did it about the same. and I loved adding the elastic to the top and making it the top of the pants. I have to try that also!!
I make my casing wide enough so the elastic is easy to move around. After then I do your trick of stiching in the ditch for the same reason. Also can smooth the front and leave gathers in the back.
Thanks for all 3 methods, I have used #1 and #2 but want to try the third method. Will you do a video for applying elastic on the back only and leaving front waistband flat. I have seen videos of this method but still confused. I am sure you will do a better job explaining and demonstrating sewing this type waistband! Then I can finally understand and can try it out. Thank you for all your outstanding videos.
I love the intro to this video. My favorite elastic is the plush elastic. My second favorite is encasing the elastic like you showed at the beginning. I'm curious if you've ever zigzagged the elastic edges down when you sew it into a loop.
I have made garments using the 1st one but I think the last one looks the easiest of the 3. I have used the twin needle to finish off the hem of knit tops and it's good if you don't have a cover stitch machine.
the first trick is what I need the most........All the while I was wondering how best I can sew the elastic band ....and mostly I did it all wrong.....thanks teacher...
Enjoyed another of your delightful and educational videos. I use #1 mostly, #2 is for special need to look very professional pants. I have never tried the third option, but will use to solve the rise too short problem. Thank you. Have you done a video for only putting elastic in back of pants?
Thank you for this! The last technique is really helpful. I make a lot of boxers and I've been playing with methods for attaching the waistband elastic. I have a coverstitch machine that I would love to be using, but keeping the fabric and elastic lined up consistently is challenging. I feel better about it after watching lots of commercial sewing videos and seeing the specialized machines they have for this exact thing, but if you have any tips I'd love to. hear them!
Hi, I love your videos and could do with some guidance on a waistband method that you don't show in this video. The elastic is joined at each end, before sewing to the top edge of the skirt on the inside with a server. Then you roll it over once, to the inside, which covers the elastic. I then seal the bottom edge closed with a coverstitch machine. This works great with knit fabrics, but with a satin bias cut skirt I get horrible twisting/roping along the top when I've finished. How do I stop this please? X
Dear Downtown, Good video. A Question, Will a too-thin ropey waistband for sweatpants feel more uncomfortable (dig into the waist) than a thicker 1 to 1.5 inches?
A lot of times when i am just sewing for myself, i do the 1st technique but i dont sew the gap closed, that way its easier for me to do adjustments later and i dont really notice a difference in comfort. Maybe i am just lazy.
Correct me if im wrong. But i have a big belly. If i used the thicker elastic, would it help to flatten tummy a bit. I find with the thin elastic, it sit in my fat rolls and makes my belly stand out more. How do i create a slimming effect with elastic?
Someone give this lady a tv show! I would totally watch an hour long program of Downtown Tailoring.
🥰🥰🥰🥰 Thanks so much! You are so kind 💕

I'm so glad 😊 And you can use even a wider elastic!
I absolutely love our videos. Not only are you incredibly talented but you always make me laugh!!! I agree. Give this lady a tv show!
Thank you so much! 😊
Thank you! I like the first two and am working towards learning how to do the second one - the orange pants. Appreciate you!
Thank you for the easy video on sewing elastic waistbands. I used the first instruction, worked out perfectly and I even sewed the label back in place so I could tell the back from the front of the pants.
I'm so glad! Thanks for letting me know 😊
Thanks for sharing. Very clear tutorial. I prefer the orange technique.
Thanks for watching! 😊

Always welcome 🥰
I woud do the all, and I have done them all! And IMHO, you did it exactly right. But I know you do have a lot more experience than I do.
I tend to use the first technique, but i have tried 2 and 3, never used twin needle though to sew it but i will from now on gives such a neeter finish, i always love your videos you really explain everything so well and its nice to know i am doing it corect aswell. Thank you again you are the best.

Great video! I like your sense of humor.
Thank you. I always wondered how to sew an elastic waist band. I am going to use your tutorials. 😊
My pleasure! Have fun 🥰
Thanks for another great and easy-to-understand video. It's easy to see that you are THE professional!
Very nice. The second is new to me.

The double row of stitching from the twin needle makes it look very neat and professional.
I think fashion and trends should be more diverse. Not every rise will fit the same to all women. Cheers 😊
Thank you for the instruction and entertainment! I find that elastic stretches out over the life of a garment so I always use the first technique so I can open and cinch up a bit at a later date. That soft elastic in the third option is really nice but very hard to source.
Yes! I agree with you. The first one is my way to go!
The last elastic can be found at bra suppliers.
Thanks for sharing your experience! 😊
I mostly do the 1st example and 2nd one. Only done the 3rd example on 1 or 2 items of clothing. Thank you for your tutorial!
Thanks so much for watching 🥰
The best tutorial for elastic. Thank you!
Thank you so much!! 😊
Oh my where have you been all my sewing life, so glad I have found your channel excellent now to binge watch thank you so very much for sharing entertaining to watch with simple steps❤
Thank you so much! 💓
Thanks! I love your videos. I like to cut up old yoga pants and reuse the waistbands.
That's a wonderful idea! 💞💞💕
Thank you so much for this! I’m just about to start sewing a pair of pants and I want to use the elastic like in the third example. Perfect timing! 😊
That's so nice! Good luck with your project 🥰

Your videos always the right place and amount of explanation. And I enjoy the little personal notes ❤️ elastic looks a lot less scary now

Hello. Great tutorial as always. I liked the two with the wider elastic. Thank you

Hi JoJo! I definitely have to do this video. Cheers 😊
Now, I see why my waist bands are awful 🤭.. Thank you for sharing the correct way to do elastic waist bands 😊

The last one is for me
🥰Gorgeous 🥰
Thank you. I've learned so much today about elastic. I have a question. When you use the serger, are you stretching the elastic as you serge?
Yes! But it's just a little bit. Remember that the serger stitch is very flexible, so you technically don't need to. Cheers 😊
Thank you sweet lady you are amazing ❤❤❤
You are! Thank you 😊
The 1st one is the one I’d use. It’s easy!!? ❤
Thanks 😊
I like all three of them I am new learner
🥰🥰🥰
I like the last one best. Looks the way I would want it to. Would this work with jeans if I cut off the waistband?
Yes! Although a knit waistband will work better. Cheers 😊
omg this is awesome!

Woow thanks mum you really help me
You are most welcome! 🥰

I'm going to try the first way to fix my pajama bottoms.
I have elastic waist pants that have the wide elastic. I find that the most comfortable.
A lot of times when i am just sewing for myself, i do the 1st technique but i dont sew the gap closed, that way its easier for me to do adjustments later and i dont really notice a difference in comfort. Maybe i am just lazy.
You aren't lazy... You are smart! 😊😊😊
I have a few pants that could use #3. Can you recommend the softest, plushest wide elastic? Off to check Wawak...
I do all three ways depend on the project 👍

Wow, so helpful video thanks 😊
Where do get the elastic from?
Hi! You can get it from Wawak. Cheers 😊
