Owsley came up as a random suggestion on Spotify recently and I'm absolutely hooked. I can't believe I never really heard of him from back in the day. I was so saddened to hear of his passing (especially taking his own life) but this music will hopefully live on forever. What an absolutely fantastic, gifted songwriter and performer. Hopefully you now have peace Will and thank you for your amazing gift to the world brother. 🤘
I miss this guy so much, especially today. RIP sweetie. Somebody please get Warner Bros. to release the 32 mastered tracks that are sitting in a warehouse somewhere .....
This guy taking his own life has affected me for the rest of my life. He is my FAVORITE song writer by far. He was a genius. Deeply missed. PURCHASE his last two songs from iTunes. Help support his family.
I cant belive it. I remember the afternoon I saw this on HBO. I was so blown away that I went out the next day and got the album. I thought it was some of the best songwritting I had ever heard. his guitar playing is so lyrical that the guy cant play a bad phrase. I still listen to the first album front to back any chance I get. I cant belive he's no longer with us.What a great loss. He left us with one of the all time greatest albums ever made in my opinion.
Absolutely Fantastic! A truly inspirational, energizing artist. His light burned brightly. Although I share the grief of his sudden passing with so many others, I thank goodness we are still able to share his artistry. No doubt he will live on through his recordings... Rock In Paradise.
I just read about Will's passing in Vintage Guitar last night, and it saddens me deeply. Will was obviously very talented, and one of those artists that I had to tell EVERYONE about. His 2 solo CDs will always be high on my list of favorites. I was sooooo hoping he would release more. Silence ain't so golden right now... I wish Will's family and friends all the best in dealing with Will's passing.
+Porch Fyre saw them on this tour when I was 13, they blew me away, such a great live band -- his voice is probably the reason they never got big, but he nails his parts for sure
Saw Him At Bham AL 1999, Met Him N Have A Signature From Him - Nice Guy He Was - Years Later Heard About His Tragic Passing - Very Sad - Bless Mr. Will Oweley - Gone BUT Never Forgotten!!!!! - M2.H.B. 2016!
I bought Owsley's debut album when it came out because I heard Oh No Radio on a compilation album. I loved that Owsley record. Although I haven't listened to it in a while, I stumbled on here to see whatever happened to this rising star. I am shocked to hear this guy commited suicide. Truly sad, this guy had tons of potential.
I watched it when it first aired; I remember wishing they'd shown more of his set then, and doubly so now. Whenever I saw them do "I'm Alright" on this tour it tore the roof off the place.
He had another band called the Semantics. It was not only him, but a guy named Millard Powers (heard he was with counting crows now?) Ben Folds, and at one time Zak Starkey (Ringo's kid). Powerpop genius. Check out Toy Matinee/Kevin Gilbert if you like this stuff. He also played with Amy Grant.
Join the "Will Owsley Appreciation Society" on FaceBook. A lot of great stories being relayed from fans, friends & other loved ones. If you've never heard "Powerbill" from The Semantics (with Willard Powers & Zak Starkey), there's a HQ MP3 download on the net somewhere. The album was never released in the U.S. (only in Japan) and is along out of print, You've touched so many people, Will Owsley. Rest in peace...and I'll see you when I make it to the other side.
he killed himself? noway! i found this dudes single for this song at a record store by chance casue i thought the cover looked cool. i just was reminded of this tune again... so sick.
I'm shocked; I just saw this while searching for him...I didn't see any mention of this in the States, but I didn't know his first name was Will. I mean, does anyone know what was wrong? He was so talented...I'm a Todd Rundgren fanatic, and he reminded of him in a "do-it-all" type of sense. What a shame. He must have been very troubled. Peace to him and his family.
He committed suicide? Oh no! He was so talented. I was just searching for this song because I was listening to my tape of him today and I felt nostalgic. Poor Will...

Amazing album. Listen to it all the time. RIP bro'.

Beatle PoP right here! Up there with Faulkner and the rest of Jellyfish. A legend. An incredible talent lost. N

You nailed it. My sentiments exactly.
Something to be said about a pop song where the chorus doesn't appear until the 1:45 mark. And then, when it does, it's simple and perfect.
It takes a certain kind of song-writing talent to properly push the verses/pre-choruses out that far.
The song doesn't have "traditional" structure, so labeling can get tricky....verse/pre-chorus/chorus or verse/chorus/bridge...but it doesn't matter.
まだほんとに信じられないです。ほんとに大好きです!素晴らしい音楽をありがとうございました。

Rock In Paradise.
Owsley fans: search for The Semantics if you want more of his early stuff. He and Millard Powers wrote some incredible power pop songs.

I could watch Will's outro solo every single day and never be any less amazed.
this guy rocked and this song rocks about as much....he was awesome...
My radio will always play you, Will. Thanks for the tunes.
RIP.
He opened for Chris Isaak and stole the whole show in Detroit Got a nice smile and autograph from Chris. Bought Owsley's CD on the spot.
Wow! I'm blown away how good this guy sounds live,
+Porch Fyre saw them on this tour when I was 13, they blew me away, such a great live band -- his voice is probably the reason they never got big, but he nails his parts for sure
Never got big...because he was too good. And his voice was just fine.
We miss you Will! Thanks for sharing your talent with us all. R.I.P.
I will forever be a fan. RIP Will.

What a talent and what a line-up he shone with. I would LOVE to see the full episode. RIP Owsley :(

How can I "like" this 50 billion times...?
R.I.P Owsley. A true genius
Still here in 2024. RIP Will
I just found out about this and I'm in shock. This guy was a genius. So, so sad. RIP Will.
訃報を今日知りました。とても残念です。心よりご冥福をお祈りします。

@55westend I agree 100% have you heard the 2 last songs on i-tunes?
I seem to remember when that was broadcast and I think it was the only Owsley song.
he killed himself? noway! i found this dudes single for this song at a record store by chance casue i thought the cover looked cool. i just was reminded of this tune again... so sick.
this is f--king great! does anyone know if somebody's loaded "coming up roses" on youtube anywhere?
This is genius. Lady Gag is not. We have a serious problem. Zappa called it the "Big Stupid."
Know the law today. What a pity. I pray for his soul from the heart.
RIP
Thanks for posting! I've read about this episode for almost a decade. Do you have the rest?
sorry you couldn't stay, will

yeah there is.. Eve tasted the fruit from the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil"
@tibuflavius: Yes, he was; very much so.
This music was too good for mainstream radio, enough said.
Correction: I accidentally typed "Willard Powers". His name is Millard.
Who is playing bass here? I can't find his name anywhere, and it isn't Millard
He committed suicide? Oh no! He was so talented. I was just searching for this song because I was listening to my tape of him today and I felt nostalgic. Poor Will...
have you uploaded that tape at all?
Is that Millard Powers on bass?
What a waste. He could nail Eruption but he wrote songs like the beatles. A great player and such a dedicated music lover. WHY?????????????
he wa a christian? or he just sing with amy grant?
