Not that surprising, since this composition favors that triangle wave bass, which none of the other chips displayed here can replicate naturally. If the SID chip had been present, this would be an entirely different race.
@@ostiariusalpha both AYs are capable to replicate the triangle wave. They can do a pure triangle, a pure saw, or a pulse-modulated triangle/saw as heard in this example.
Pokey is known for generating detuned musics. When using 4 audio channels, the frequency resolution of each voice is 8 bit only (while the SN76489 is 10 bit, SID is 12 bit, ...). Useful frequencies often land between two 8-bit values, then the nearest byte is chosen, generating a shifted frequency. In 2 channels mode, the output frequency resolution is 16 bit, without detuning, but the amount of audio channels is too low and is never used.
