I’ve been recording at home for a couple of years. This shows me a few simple approaches but also reinforces my reservations of overdoing things.

What I enjoyed...(1) your logic and approach...solid and effective. (2) mixing the DI and Amp to gain the right tone (3) mixing the guitar amps to gain the right tone. All of it worked for the sound you were searching for. I way pre-punk.... 60's and 70's but I love the energy of punk. Always good to be open to all areas of music. As always, Thanks David.

    Punx not dead )) 🤟🛹

The thing about punk as a style of music though, is that it's so diverse. you get the pop punk or skate punk, hardcore punk, crust and anarcho punk, it's all good. but no one can ever say punk as a genre its for kids, because there are some incredible heavy and deep bands that sound a lot closer to metal and thrash than they do to pop and rock. And the lyrical content is often beyond any other style of music. Propagandhi and Raised Fist are two examples of bands that are punk as fuck and they have maturity and depth to go with it

I dig it. sound advice and clear! thanks got a sub and look forward to more of your videos! The bass line was double correct? I wasn't sure if you played it twice. The waveform looked identical.

PRO TIP: The guitar bus should have a sufficient amount of 500-600 Hz, as stacking guitars that are (usually) scooped (in this genre) you can end up with a real deficiency of weighty mids. =)

First, good video and thank you. Punk is an attitude, not an age. Someone that identified himself with Punk was Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead. He did things his way. He commented on the misuse of organized religion. The song "God Was Never on Your Side" was a great social commentary. Why was it Punk? Because it went against accepted societal norms. Lemmy also commented on race relations and perceived race stereotypes promulgated by society. When Lemmy died, he was older than most of us commenting, and he was Punk to his heart.

Your song musically sounds like "Cheap Shot Youth Anthem" by Kid Dynamite, which is also about the young being gatekept from the scene. LOL It feels like you borrow a lot of cues from it. Good song tho. :P

The great thing about punk rock is it doesnt matter if you are ripping off someones hook. I blatantly ripped off Judas Priests' "Breakin the law" hook, and it was especially funny because i was breaking the law, i mean, only copyright law, but its the thought that counts.

Very interesting video, from the "recording" perspective. All the comments on how the punk is for "young" and why there's conflict, etc... are all WRONG (and clearly demonstrating you're talking about something that you don't know at all) and, moreover, USELESS.

I believe "punk rock" is a genre of music that anybody could experiment with at any age, but to be an actual punk, you would have to be a drug addict, living in a squat kind of lifestyle, and the grittiness of that lifestyle produces the kind of hunger to come up with unexpected lyrics and tunes, totally untrained, it's a bit like an art movement, Iggy Pop was a punk and came up with his vibes by accident, the drugs probably give all the inspiration and incentive to write, but yeah, the genre is another thing altogether, I usually just use the term "punky" when I hear something modern, and Nirvana were quite modern and punky, with the grittiness of drugs too, ? To be honest, if there were no drug takers in the music world, the whole scene would be quite boring, so drugs have made rock music more genuine, it's amazing how much a shameful lifestyle can make an artist shine compared to more clean living artists, but punk shows it better than any other genre, I mean, can anybody ever imagine the Ramones without Dee Dee ? ha ha,

To play bass for “punk” , you just play the root notes. Lol. Says the guy who clearly still doesn’t get what punk is. Root notes if you wanna be the Ramones maybe sure. But what about Descendents, or Moral Crux??
Crappy drumming? I don’t even know what the hell to say about that.
Crappy recordings…..Eh. I would say cheap. DIY is punk so yeah, drr.
Whatever this song you made is. Isn’t punk.
Punk is for young people??? It’s not Trix. Come off it.
Punk is for anyone who says “because I can”. Simple as that. You’re completely confusing punk rock with what punk is. There is no defined sound. Unless it’s garbage off Fat Wreckords.
Anyway I’ll tell all the bands still going, who are in their mid 60s that punk is for kids…
    Dork.
