Omg, thank you thank you thank you! I have a Liftmaster that was installed late last year, and after a freak downpour yesterday, my garage door wouldn’t close all the way. I texted the person that installed it asking if he could walk me through the steps over the phone to fix it, but he claimed that if a customer programmed or set limits for it, the warranty would be void. I did neither, but he quoted me $110 to come to my property to fix it, anyway. You saved me money, dude. You’re my hero. THANK YOU.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Hello Michael! The weirdest thing happened today. When I left for the dentist this morning at 11:15, I used my remote to close the garage door, and it worked fine. Then, when I got back around 1:00 pm, the door wouldn’t close all the way. I tried both the remote and the wall mounted opener. The thing that frustrates me is that the green light isn’t flashing, so the alignment should be fine. I have this garage door opener: MyQ Contractor Series Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener. I’m going to set up an account with my smart phone now. I thinkI should have done it before. Wish me luck!
I would not recommend downloading the app myQ. It wouldn’t let me create an account, even though I followed all the prompts. The only option I had after that was to start over. Plus, It messed with my phone and blocked me from my TH-cam and App Store apps. So I deleted the MyQ app and then my apps began working again. Frustrated, I just unplugged the unit to try to reboot it, and it works fine now. I cannot recommend buying a garage door opener that has remote access. I mean, why would we really need that in the first place. Hope this post is somewhat informative. Good night.
My garage hasn't been working in a week. The other day I suspected the problem was the sensor and saw the green light blinking but didn't know that it wasn't supposed to. My garage had the exact same symptoms that your video showed and after watching this I adjusted the sensor to where it wasn't blinking and BAM, it worked. Thanks so much for showing the video.

Ok Mike, I sent you a comment an hour ago thanking you for a troubleshooting tip. Now, I am sending you a really super thank you! The tip worked!!!! I had an orange light but no green light. I had to make an adjustment on the green light side to the height and angle. A few days ago, I took everything out of the garage to clean the floor. I kicked the bracket off on the green side and just stuck it back on. The height was 2 inches higher than the orange light side when I measured it. I made both sensors the same height and tightened up the wing nuts. Also, it is not a good idea to stuff odds and ends on the floor in the corners near the sensors. Thanks again! 😀
Yeah, stuffing stuff in the corners near the sensor. I store my recycle bin next to it and it caught and pulled out the tiny sensors plug upon removing the bin-didn’t know I did so. This video pointed me in the right direction.
This video saved me this morning. A jug with salt fell and, apparently, caused one of the sensors to go out of alignment. I know nothing about garage doors, so I came on here before calling the repair man. I am glad I did because in less than five minutes, my door was working correctly. Thank you.

Mary here. I’ve been fussing and cussing about my stupid garage door not cooperating with me for months now. Yes...I said months! Why did I not check the sensor? Because, nothing that breaks, fails, or doesn’t work right NEVER turns out to be something so simple. Well, maybe with 2020 slowly (and not a day too soon) coming to an end, things seem to be turning around. I got my old fat butt down on the floor and, sure enough, that dadgum little green light was not there. Loosened the wing nut, which, by the way, is my hubby’s nickname, moved that little sucker around a little, and lo and behold, the green light came on!! Tightened the nut, stepped back, held my breath (but not for long...I’ve got asthma), pushed the button, and my door went up and down like a dream! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! Now, on to lubricating the hinges, etc. (I just watched your video on this.) I’m tired of my neighbor yelling at me and every dog in our subdivision howling every time I go in and out. 10,000 👍👍👍 Keep the DIY videos coming. That worked perfectly. I accidentally knocked the receiver (green light) loose while I was coming into the garage. I clipped it back on and it seemed to be glowing a steady green but the door wouldn't close. When at looked at it more closely (and with a mirror) I could see the green light was flickering very slightly. A few adjustments got me a steady green light and the door is working fine, now. Thanks for watching, were you able to get unit back up and running properly? Some units have learn buttons that don’t light up, it’s rare though. We believe all Craftsmen units have lighted learn buttons. If it’s not illuminating, the light may be burnt out however, it’s unlikely. We recommend disconnecting power cord from ceiling outlet and leaving unplugged for a minimum of five minutes before plugging it back in. This will allow system to reset.
I have a solid green light on the left and a steady amber light on the right. Are both lights supposed to be green? That’s the one thing I wasn’t able to determine from watching the video (excellent presentation btw). Thanks for the help.
Thanks for watching. Some model sensors and units are configured as such. Is your unit operating properly with one green and one amber? If so, you are good to go. 🧰
@@inhabitantofearth Thanks for watching, is your unit operating properly with one green light and one amber light? If so, your unit is configured properly. Some units require two green lights while other units require one green light and one amber light.
Troubleshooting: 1. Ensure that the amber light is on, on one side (beam side), and green light or flashing green on the other (receiver side). If either light isn't working, there is most likely something wrong with the wiring to that side. This is what it turned out to be the case with mine. Once I fixed the wire, I was finished. 2. Align the beam and sensor until you get a steady green on the receiver side within 6" of the ground as per the video. After that, it will work.

Thanks for your post. I am having a similar problem with one sensor being solid amber and the other being solid green. When I adjust the positioning of the sensor that is amber in color, I can’t get the amber light to switch to green. In other words, I don’t think that, it is a sensor misalignment problem, in my case, it looks like it’s a wiring problem. I came to that conclusion because regardless of the adjustment that I made the amber light stay solid, and the green light stayed solid green. I don’t know how to fix the wire myself, so it looks like I’ll have to call an overhead door company or an electrician. Any thoughts?
@@mlmiles1 Something doesn't make sense there. Maybe remove both sensors, make some short temporary wires, and connect them to the opener and see if they work right. If not, there is something screwy that involves replacing some parts. If it fixes them, then it seems like it would have to be wiring.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Hi the green and amber lights both are solid and i clean the sensor eyes, etc but I still have the same issue the door tries to close but goes all the way up any thoughts?

How did you fix the one that was amber? Did you do the same thing? Ensure there was no obstructions and then aligned it with the other? Or was there something else wrong? The sensor on the left of my garage is fine, steady green light. But the one on the right is amber and the door won’t close. Trying to sort this out
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Depending on the model of your unit, an amber on one side & a green on the opposite side is normal. You will want to align sensors until lights are illuminated & steady....no blinking. At this point, carefully tighten sensors in place with wing nut & test unit. Keep us posted. 😎👍🔧🔩
So I have a weird problem that my garage door keeps closing even if somebody comes in between the sensor, it will not stop and keeps closing. I see it as a safety issue in case a kid comes in the middle. The door will not stop. I do have sensors and they sent something as I can feel a little hesitation on the door, but it keeps on closing what could be the issue?
Thanks for watching, let’s get this figured out. A few common causes are listed below. 1. Wiring is randomly shorting: The wiring that is held in place with staples eats through the shielding over the years. Do you notice any damaged throughout your wiring? 2. The opener push button: The wall mounted push button has an internal circuit board that can go bad over time. When this happens, it will send sporadic signals to the motor requesting it it open and close when it’s not supposed too. In addition, a few outside items can lead to this. If any of the items below have occurred recently, one of them may be interfering with the frequency of your unit and causing sporadic open and close signals. 1. New internet installed in home 2. New security system installed 3. New power-line or pole installed near home 🧰
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders sorry I may not have explained properly. It doesn’t do it on its own. Let’s say I initiate a close command to close the garage and then I try to put my leg in between the two sensors simulating a person under door and at this moment the sensor should detect and open the garage however my garage door seems as if it senses something but just keeps moving towards close and doesn’t stop.
@@HowToDoitright Thanks for the follow up. It may be best to perform a full system reset. We recommend unplugging the unit from the ceiling outlet/receptacle and leaving unplugged for a minimum of 30 minutes. This will allow your system to perform a full reset. After 30 minutes, plug unit back in and see if it properly reconfigured itself. If not, two things can lead to this. 1. Faulty or dirty sensor: Carefully clean sensor eye-lens so it can properly detect moving objects. 2. Travel system issue: Re-programming your Travel system may reset sensors. Below is a helpful video of us showing this procedure. th-cam.com/video/M6d9IMjyze4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KSoJW4uYEkdnx8NU We recommend performing the steps in the order listed below until it begins working as designed. 1. I reset it week ago on the box on scaling but now it’s happening again without any obstructions or touching the sensors . Im wondering if i need to replace a battery 🪫 which is on the main box ?
Thanks for watching. Has there been any changes around the property that would cause frequency interference? Examples would be: • New internet • New alarm system • Added electronics to garage • Solar farm installed near property These are just a few of many items that can cause frequency interference with garage doors. Also, take a look at the bottom portion garage door motor housing installed on ceiling. There should be a small hanging antenna/wire feeding out of the bottom of housing. If this is damaged or positioned too far inside housing, the system will not operate as designed. Carefully position antenna downward and out of housing to ensure all communicating devices can reach it.

@@worldfitnesstrainerradekve9234 Thanks for the follow up. If the internet modem is positioned too close to the the garage door unit antenna, it can very easily cause interference…leading to sporadic behavior. Is it an option to move modem to another location? In most cases, it’s not…however if possible…it may help. However before that, you may want to consider re-programming your Travel System. I have a question: in my case, I have one sensor that is solid amber and another that is solid green. When I put my shin in the path of the beam for the sensor, that is solid green, the solid green light goes off while my head is interrupting the beam. but when I put my hand in the way of the beam of the sensor with the amber light, nothing happens. Does that tell me anything about what problem I might be having?
Thanks for watching, having one green light and one amber light is normal configuration for certain setups. Is your unit not operating correctly? If not, double check the wiring feeding in and out of your sensor to ensure there is no melted, overheated, frayed, or damaged wiring causing sporadic behavior with the sensor itself. A slight adjustment with the sensor until the light is steady is recommended if you accidentally move it while removing cobwebs and debris from electrical wiring.

The vibrations from the motor are causing the wires to make intermittent connection to the terminal. I have an old Chamberlin ca 2000 model. There are 3 wires going to the screw terminal in the middle. They are different gauges and should not be forced together under a screw head. Disconnect those 3 wires and twist together with a new 4th wire, approx 6 inches long is fine. Secure with a wire nut. Now attach the other end of the new 4th wire to the middle terminal. Voila. Fixed.
Thanks for watching & this will depend on your model. If your sensors are properly aligned & unit is working perfectly as designed, and you have one green and one amber light… You are good to go. 😎👍🔧🔩
Can u please explain the amber light looks yellow to me...should it be green too or yellow..mine us red..can you explain better...you kinda didn't explain thourly...thanks
Thanks for watching, this will depend on your exact unit. Some units will require one green light and one amber light to operate correctly, while others require two green lights. If your garage door unit is operating as designed and you have one green and one amber light…your unit is configured properly. Keep us posted.
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Depending on your unit, if it is working properly & as designed... your unit may have one green light and one amber light which will be 100% normal configuration. 😎👍
I had my garage door replaced. The sensor bracket that clips on keeps moving, perhaps due to vibration, and gets it out of alignment. Can you offer advice in attaching the bracket clips in such a way that they don't easily move?
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. The tension tabs on mount may need to be slight compressed a bit. To do this, you will need to remove mounts to get better control on the adjustment. Adjusting the tension tabs in slightly will help the mounts get a much tighter grip on the track that they are connecting to.
@ Thanks for the reply, it may be as simple as re-programming your Travel System. Link below shows this procedure. th-cam.com/video/M6d9IMjyze4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vpkvWgceT5SYg6W_ 🧰
One of my sensors is solid green lit, the other one does not light up at all. I checked for loose wiring but don't see any. Is it possible one of the sensors has gone bad?
@ Yes I tried that already, but it seems alignment is not the issue. To add to the weirdness, sometimes the door closes normal but most of the time it reverses.
@ Thanks for the reply. We recommend unplugging unit from ceiling outlet and leaving unplugged for 30 minutes. This will allow your system to reset and hopefully reconfigure itself for proper re-programming.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Thanks for the advice. At this point, I have viewed so many TH-cam videos but nothing seems to work. I will give this a shot and report back to you.
Need help. I have an amber light on the sending unit but no light on the receiver. Have rewired the receiver side twice and hooked it up to a meter and it is conducting electricity, I have measured and aligned the sensors, but no joy.
Thanks for watching, have you performed a reset on the entire unit? To do this, we recommend carefully unplugging unit from ceiling outlet and leaving unplugged for a minimum of 30 minutes. This again will allow your system to reset. After 30 minutes, plug unit back in and see if that fixes issue. Please keep us posted. @@bmiller3347 Thanks for the follow up. Any recent changes in regards to radio frequency within close proximity of home? Examples can be: New power lines, change of WiFi, solar panels on property, electric car charging unit installed in garage, generator hookup installed to home, cell phone tower, wind turbine, or solar farm installed near property…? All of these can aggressively interfere with the frequency of your garage door unit? Also, are you using LED bulbs inside unit…?…not all LED bulbs are compatible with garage door units and can cause havoc on system.
Ok this all makes sense but did the right sensor light turn green or is a solid yellow good too? The video does not show the status of the right sensor light.
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. This will depend on your unit. Most units will have a steady green sensor & a steady amber sensor. 😎👍

Well, out of the blue our 2nd garage door that's not used often decided we have to hold the wall button to close it. I readjusted both eyes, one is bright green the other bright orange. No cobwebs, no obstructions. Still have to hold the button to close.
Good morning ☕️ Any update? The next thing to do is EVER-SO-CAREFULLY clean each sensor lens. Although the sensors are realigned and no cobwebs or bugs present, a dirty lens can cause this as well. Also, if there is anything within close proximity of the sensors that provide a glare when the sun or light hits it, we recommend repositioning those items to a different spot in garage because they can actually direct sunlight toward sensors and make sensors act sporadically… which will require you to have to push and hold your push button.

Good night.

Mike: what brand of garage opener do you have? Does it matter which brand you work on? Thank you!
(I just watched your video on this.) Why my learn purple button doesn't blink or lit even when it has power? Craftman Opener!
Thanks for watching, were you able to get unit back up and running properly? Some units have learn buttons that don’t light up, it’s rare though.
We believe all Craftsmen units have lighted learn buttons. If it’s not illuminating, the light may be burnt out however, it’s unlikely.

Thanks for watching, is your unit operating properly with one green light and one amber light?
If so, your unit is configured properly.
Some units require two green lights while other units require one green light and one amber light.
Troubleshooting:

1. New internet installed in home
2. New security system installed
3. New power-line or pole installed near home
🧰
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders sorry I may not have explained properly. It doesn’t do it on its own. Let’s say I initiate a close command to close the garage and then I try to put my leg in between the two sensors simulating a person under door and at this moment the sensor should detect and open the garage however my garage door seems as if it senses something but just keeps moving towards close and doesn’t stop.
@@HowToDoitright
Thanks for the follow up.
Below is a helpful video of us showing this procedure.
th-cam.com/video/M6d9IMjyze4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KSoJW4uYEkdnx8NU
We recommend performing the steps in the order listed below until it begins working as designed.
1. Full 30 minute reset
2. Clean sensor eye-lenses
3. Re-program Travel system

Mine is very clean no dust no obstruction steady lights but still got the problem doors not closing from inside and when try to close door from outside with my car remote the door not close just try to close go back and flashing . I reset it week ago on the box on scaling but now it’s happening again without any obstructions or touching the sensors . Im wondering if i need to replace a battery 🪫 which is on the main box ?
Thanks for watching. Has there been any changes around the property that would cause frequency interference? Examples would be:
• New internet
• New alarm system
• Added electronics to garage
• Solar farm installed near property
These are just a few of many items that can cause frequency interference with garage doors.
Hi, yes new internet 🛜 we moved in 2 months ago and the door was one of the many things not working in this house 🏡. We got the garage working than month later it started making issues not closing or opening just flashing and shaking. Now it works sometimes. The new internet 🛜 is on other side of the wall in living room behind the garage.
@@worldfitnesstrainerradekve9234
Thanks for the follow up.
Below is a helpful link.

So doesn't matter if left is solid green right solid amber just so there not blinking? Am I right on this since the door is working now.
So the best I can guess is a wad of leaves built upon left side caused my door to open and close on its on a good minute or two after closing. A pause in time before opening on its on.
Good morning, that’s correct. If your unit is working as designed with one solid green and one solid amber, that’s proper configuration for your exact manufactured model.

If the amber light is not on, get a ladder and look at the connections on the garage door opener itself.
Voila. Fixed.
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience and advice.

Well, out of the blue our 2nd garage door that's not used often decided we have to hold the wall button to close it. I readjusted both eyes, one is bright green the other bright orange. No cobwebs, no obstructions. Still have to hold the button to close.
Good morning ☕️
Any update? The next thing to do is EVER-SO-CAREFULLY clean each sensor lens.
Although the sensors are realigned and no cobwebs or bugs present, a dirty lens can cause this as well.
Also, if there is anything within close proximity of the sensors that provide a glare when the sun or light hits it, we recommend repositioning those items to a different spot in garage because they can actually direct sunlight toward sensors and make sensors act sporadically… which will require you to have to push and hold your push button.
