When you hear that soft, melodic sing-song tone you know it is "hiligayno9", the language of the Ilonggo in the Philippines. No othert language is so "softly" spoken. When a real Ilonggo says "I'm gobna kill you" you think he said "I love you". Hehehehehe.

I envy you two beacuse you can speak Hiligaynon so fluently like the Ilonggos. Even though I'm a Filipino, I can not speak that language, yet we have also our own language which we call it Ilocano here in our place, that's 250 kms. north of Manila. When I was still working in Manila, I have a lot of Ilonggo friends, and I love to hear when they are conversing with each other. We call their language "malambing"(romantic) beacause even though they are upset and out-tempered their conversation still sounds chill.

you guys are awesome linguist. some decade ago an American talked to me in straight Tagalog and my initial reaction was one of a total shock. before then I have never encountered a blond blue eyed guy talking to me in my own language as if he was born in the Philippines.
I find Portuguese to be very interesting because I have been watching some portuguese sopas and I feel like the sounds and intonation is very similar to Portuguese. I was in a restaurant overseas and I heard a group of people talking my dialect "Hiligaynon" but I canot understand what they are saying. And I looked back and see white men. So i listened carefully and they are not speaking Hiligaynon but Portuguese.

I was in a restaurant overseas and I heard a group of people talking my dialect "Hiligaynon" but I canot understand what they are saying. And I looked back and see white men. So i listened carefully and they are not speaking Hiligaynon but Portuguese.
