I will never understand how she delivers this much emotion and then still sings so perfectly, it’s breathtaking. I’m also always amazed that by the end of this video, she’s not out of character yet. This one goes deep for her. Her phrasing and breath control are exquisite. No wonder DQ loves her so much.

I was wondering if there would ever be another one after Edith Piaf who is able to interpret a French chanson on the same level or even BETTER... then came Lara!!!!

You hit it right on the button- she is a tremendous story teller who sings with such full emotion that you believe what she is telling you. She is not simply voicing the words, she is feels the words and has the talent to transmit it to us and touch our souls.

Lara Fabian is masterclass. For me the most amazing performer and singer there is. There is something in her voice that makes it so crazy beautiful..and my eyes are not disapointed as well..This woman got it all.❤️ Thank you for sharing.

Wow, awesome reaction. I love the word you used, "intention". Everything single word and note our Queen, long may she reign, sings is intentional. Every arm movement, the cracks in her voice, the spoken word singing, the snarls, where she is looking, is all intentional. She is one of (In my view "the") best singers of the last 30 years...a giant. However, Lara is an ARITIST. While others simply sing.

Never do a reaction to a studio recording or an "official" video of Lara if you can help it. She is 100% meant to be seen live. Our Queen is meant to be experienced.

    More information on Lara Fabian:
Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, ....
In my personal opinion, she is even the best.
There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register.
So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence:
    • she speaks 4 languages fluently (french, italian, english, spanish), can speak a bit of sicilian, russian and dutch, and has sung in 12 languages in total
    • she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks fluently. She often co-composes the music with the composer.
    • she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none
    • she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens.
A quick background on her and her career:
She is belgian, her father is flemish, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia). She was raised in both countries so she speaks both french and italian as native languages.
She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory.
She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today.
She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada.
She now lives in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship
She became very famous there and then conquered France in 1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music).
In 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, stayed number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for 58 weeks in a row and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US.
This concert is legendary and the song you just reviewed is from this concert.
But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan.
She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Central Asia where she became an absolute superstar thru her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years.
She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace", used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera, topped the charts for months.
Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban, …
With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there.
Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA and many other countries are now rediscovering her.
She is Dimash's idol: I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep.
He covered many of her songs (that she performed originally ; she also wrote some of these).
Out of my mind I can list:
    ○ Adagio,
    ○ Mademoiselle Hyde,
    ○ Know/Vocalise/Ascolta La voce
    ○ Love of tired swans
She also wrote the lyrics of his song « Your Love ».
And she covered « Love is like a dream » before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva).
They also performed Ti Amo Cosi together with Aida Garafulina: this is a song that she performed originally with Dmitriy Hvorostovsky and Alina Yaroyava then again later with Dmitriy and Sumi Jo, before this new trio with Dimash and Aida.
Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy who came back from retirement and composed severals songs for him.
Many other top vocalists from the current generation covered her songs:
    ○ Floor Jansen (Adagio),
    ○ Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime),
    ○ Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie, Know),
    ○ Morissette Amon (Broken Vow),
    ○ Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace),
    ○ Cakra Khan (Broken Vow),
    ○ Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow),
    ○ Regine Velasquez (Broken Vow),
    ○ Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade, Je t'aime),
    ○ Daria Bentsa (I guess I loved you),
    ○ Julie Anne san Jose (Broken Vow),
    ○ Rimar ( Adagio, Broken Vow),
    ○ Laura Bretan ( Adagio, Caruso),
    ○ Jackie Evancho (Je t’aime, Caruso and Broken Vow, BV rewritten as « Imaginer » by Lara for Jackie),
    ○ Almira (from 4th Impact band) (Broken Vow),
    ○ Amir (Je t’aime),
    ○ Choi Sung Hoon (Je suis malade),
    ○ Forestella (Je suis Malade),
    ○ ....
Today, she still has an amazing voice and tone and can still reach the 5th octave with resonance ; she still offers these emotive renditions that are her unique signature.
In June 2022, she kicked off a WW tour and stunned her fans once again with 5 magical concerts in Canada.
Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara.

“Je suis Malade” was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973.
This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …).
When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours.
The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes.
Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, but a few months after, Dalida covered it and brought it to fame. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad.
But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s.
At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet. They became good friends.
Lara has made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power and Serge Lama adopted these in his later interpretations.
This 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries.
The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.

I am the 9th whos going to make a comment. So number 9 symbolizes Lara since she is like a cat having 9 lives. Her influence and impact are like that.......or more becoming immortalized. Her song Jet Taime is already considered a classic French love song. Some of her songs are already being delivered by contestants in song competitions globally (Such as Broken Vow, Jet Taime, and JE Suis Malade., while other artists did a rendition of her songs. (Adagio, Broken Vow, etc) She is a force to reckon with when it comes to delivering a song and is considered as at the top of the heap of best voices. . And if I were going to choose a model for a gifted child in music to emulate (vocally and others) She is THE ONE, because she is a total package from her artistry, vocal prowess, stage performance, song writing skills. song interpretation, playing the piano, etc She is on another level. Her blue print is the path to mastership at all levels.

Yes she is one of the greatests voices of all time, and she is maybe the best performer and storyteller alive. Whether the song is her original or a cover, whether she wrote it or not, whatever the language (she writes songs in french, english, italian, spanish and has sung in 12 !), she reveals the meaning of every single word and connects you immediately to the story and the emotions of the song.
That’s why she is Dimash’s absolute idol and a big inspiration for Diana Ankudinova, Polina Gagarina and many many others.
I will post two additional comments: one with details on this song and one with details on her career, background andamm the covers of her songs from Dimash and the new generation of vocalists.
I loved your reaction and just subscribed, hoping somemore reaction to her songs. She has many different gems, in different languages and different genres : ballads, pop, pop dance, operatic rock, opera, …

I love French chansons. Lara is probably the best vocal chansonnier of her era.
Many famous and truly gifted chansonniers came before her. From Piaf to Brel. Many with the same, if not better (date and technics in consideration) performances.
But yeah.. Lara is awesome. I had her first CDs back at the end of the 90’s. Together with Celine Dion CDs.

Yeah, you said it all. She sang every word with emotion and intention and was really, honestly telling a story. And you can really see here how much she influenced Dimash and his stage presence. I also love how she evolved the meaning of "I am sick" over the course of the song. At the beginning, she's talking about how sick she's let herself become within this relationship - to the point that she doesn't even feel like a person anymore - but then, after the "this love is killing me" turn, the meaning becomes "I am sick of this... and I'm not taking it anymore." It goes from somebody who's been drained of all their power to somebody taking their power back. And, overall, it's just gorgeous. Lara is one of those next level performers.
    Great reaction as always!

At the end she's sick as she was crazy, because she laughs, within the desperation. "Malade" means all those things.

    • @johnplaysgames3120
      @johnplaysgames3120 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@vervideosgiros1156 Yeah, that too. But also sick of being sick and feeling the way she did. That's why she mentions that her heart is now "surrounded by barricades." She was vulnerable throughout the song, going through all the variations of being sick, but, by the end, she's now barricaded her heart and isn't letting this relationship destroy her anymore (though barricading your heart is its own form of destruction, yeah?). And she wants to make sure the person who was destroying her knows that she's done with it, thus she says angrily at the end, "Do you hear? I'm sick!" as in "sick of this." Or, really, "you've made me sick and I'm sick of being made sick, so now my heart is barricaded from emotion and I'm done."
The song is a journey from being broken and sad to being broken and angry (which is still broken but, y'know, it's still taking the power back from the other person). And why? Because she finally hears herself and realizes at the mid-point turn I mentioned (from "this love is killing me" to the next chorus) that "if this continues, I'll die alone....listening to my own voice singing 'I am sick.'" As in, if she doesn't change something, she's going to go to her grave just saying "I am sick" over and over and never doing anything about it... just listening to herself "singing" the same old refrain on repeat until she dies, and that realization wakes her up.

This isn't merely a song performed extremely well.....I can't recall seeing anything quite like it. I'm reminded of author Truman Capote's remark about another writer's book: "It isn't writing; it's typing."
Lara writes this song. Others just hunt-n-peck.
You could go a lifetime without witnessing such an event. I'm happy I was able to see this one.

you are an exceptionally beautiful young lady. Might i suggest you listen to Lucy Thomas, From a very early age she has proved to be a force to be reckoned with in her capacity as a singer She has a tremendous vocal ability. Lucy also is a story teller through her performance. Evergreen and broken dreams are but two of her stunning performances.

And every tour she sings this with equal intention but a TOTALLY different tone & style. There's half a dozen almost as good as this.
Jacques Brel and Nina Simone also sing with intention like this imho. It's a great French tradition.

.4:45........the transition to the a cappella sequence is stunning !......the female character in the song feels absolute despair at giving her love, her life and career as a singer to an uncaring man.......Lara is completely drained at the conclusion, she was so into the performance

She doesn't even have one tenth of the recognition she deserved.
She used to be a part of the same canadian company as Celine Dion. They had a model using the French scene as a stepping stone before going international or trying for the US market. (most artist produced are real polyglots - Lara speaks like 4 languages fluently)
The issue came when Fabian started out-shining Dion in France. Suddenly the company turned on her and buried her with legal issues. It was quite tragic. She was abandoned by everyone, including her own husband and cried on stage when the public started singing for her "on t'aime".
All because her agent happened to be the same as Dion. She almost fell in anonymity because that creep decided to sacrifice an artist to insure the success of his future wife, which by the way he started courting when she was still a kid - a proper fat creep.

She isn't a polyglot: she speaks French and Italian as native languages, so of course, it doesn't count; she speaks English and Spanish fluently and she speaks Portuguese and Dutch, but not fluently. She's really great, but she isn't a polyglot; she's multi-linguee. A polyglot is someone who speaks at least 5 languages (not counting the native languages, of course) fluently.

I believe that one must have been broken by life to deliver such an interpretation. Lara Fabian performed it with her magnificent voice, but Serge Lama's interpretation literally grabs us by the guts because it is so genuine
