It is just profiteering though. For the price of these lighters, they could simply include a free adapter. They're obviously designing the products to be incompatible with standard butane nozzles.
There’s adapters for $15 on eBay. Just bought mine the other day. Comes with 8 heads that can be used for all types ST DuPonts and any other lighter you can think of
As much as I'd like to support the brand, their gas prices are repulsive--and it was impossible to find during the pandemic. Any of the premium butanes available in the US are at least as good as Dupont's and typically come with several adapters for different brands/styles of lighters. If anyone thinks Dupont owns a special butane refinery I have a bridge in Baltimore for sale...
Exactly, and the price per serving size is just repulsive and insulting. Most butane companies like what XIKAR uses is just as good and with a $15 brass adapter, you won't need to waste your money on this (dare I say it) scheme that ST Dupont has tricked their loyal customers into participating in.
as an engineer, either this is a pure money grab or poor engineering. Why do these expensive lighters require a specific nozzle for each model. C'mon ST Dupont, you can do better!

I understand a proprietary nozzle for the company, like ink cartridges for fountain pens. But why on Earth each model has its own valve design? 😮 It's like each style of Parker pens will have its own non-interchangeable cartridge 🤷♂️
Yeah but why need different tips..... the gas is the same, they just wanted to make it more difficult to use it. You already got 1500 bucks from us, let us refill it, christ.
Another great video. I am curious, Kirby are you planning to visit London this year? Let´s say in June? I am about to travel there and would like to meet you in person as your fan and new member in your traditonal life if you allow me to. Maybe you would wellcome somebody new, who would enjoy smoking cigars with you and I am serious about this. I am looking for like minded friends. Have a nice day
Ultimately, it's about achieving the highest quality flame with the least contaminants that could foul the odor, taste and burning quality of the cigar.

I guess the people mocking S T DuPont’s gas prices don’t know much about Butane refinement. If you put cheap gas with lots of impurities in your lighter it will corrode components, eat through the o-rings and require your expensive lighter to be expensively serviced more frequently. Once you understand that who cares which nozzle it has as the DuPont refills all cost the same. You wouldn’t buy the cheapest fuel and put it in your expensive car why do that with your lighter?
Seems like you are trying hard to justify something. A quick scan of 100+ comments here are not a single one is about the gas. Its about the purposefully bespoke nozzles. Dupont isn't refining gas for thier lighters, likely not even bottling this themselves - its off the shelf premium gas, placed into a unique bottle by a third party gas supplier.
@@mljones99 was a year ago, but STILL! Why would we need to know how to fill a lighter! The lighter in this video was $1500 ish….. Sooooo lazy. In the UK you can get a good lighter for £40 and 8 bottle of fuel off amazon for £4.99. He’s running out of content in my eyes. 🤷🏻♂️

Before recharge it you need to escape all the air in the tank, use something to press the gas valve and when you do it put the lighter in vertical position untill you don't ear enymore the "psss", then you can recharge it. Do this every time you need to recharge it
I guess lot of people are surely confuse until they found out the color code inside the cap ... that said, if you video is interesting it would worth better if you, at least, say a word about the adaptators you can find on eBay, Amazon and even AliExpress. Because when you are traveilling it is not always easy to find in stock the good refiller you need.
In 2016 in a rare drunk moment for me in Vegas in a cigar lounge, I bought a S.T. Dupont lighter. When I inquired about them the salesman said they were out of my price range and I was offended and bought it for spite. When I got home with it, finding that I didn't use it as much as a torch I decided to sell it on eBay. To my surprise, several people tried to scam me trying to convince me it was fake. I asked the kind folks on Reddit and showed detailed pictures and they assured me mine was genuine hand made and the eBay folks were scammers. I found a lovely buyer who paid me what I paid for it. Years later though, especially after finding Kirby Allison, I kinda regret letting go of that lighter. Maybe I'd like one of the dual flame models more.

1. Will you dedicate a show to explaining and demonstrating the very British etiquette of pipe smoking with specialist tobacco ?

found this entertaining- thank you
Here in uk butane lighter cannister comes with various nosels....RIP OFF !!
I'm just now noticing the beautiful bottle of blantons in the back. I'm sure everything on that shelf is top notch
Assuming that the answer isn't "profiteering", why would they choose to use different tips for a device with very similar mechanical constraints?
profiteering, no other answer, no matter what they say, its disappointing
I just buy adaptors from ebay, im not gna pay expensive gas refills
Where can I get my DuPont lighters serviced? How much does the servicing cost?
Love my 4 jet lighter however, man does it go through the butane. Enjoy your presentations Kirby, Thanks.
My Zippo with German Stuka image does the job just fine. No need for this high end product.

I just bought the adapter set on Amazon for $10 and use the more reasonably priced Xikar fuel since my lighter is out of warranty anyways.

Well done, Kirby. Also, it's important to "bleed" the remaining air and gasses out of a lighter prior to refilling. Cheers!
Kirby has a refill instruction video where he shows how to do that.
Why?
@@EasyMac308The fuel tank will then contain 100% fuel with no air taking up space in the tank -- i. e. more available lights per refill.
