Thank you so much for putting this guide together. Your casual comment about their price earlier has absolutely floored me, as I've been left about a dozen or so of these lighters by my grandfather in both silver and gold, some with beautiful leather cases. He worked on pipeline and electrical development projects across the province of BC and while I didn't have very much time with him before he passed I"m sure he was immensely proud of his collection. According to some preliminary ebay searching, there's easily a few thousand dollars in rollagas lighters as well as some other rather collectible dunhill lighters. None will be sold, but all will now have a reason to be rebuilt and appreciated :)

This is one of the best instructional videos I've ever seen, and I just purchased a vintage lacquered Rollagas which I plan to service myself. Thank you for that!
But the real reason I'm commenting is the unexpected " *beautiful... big fu--ing flame* " line @ 23:12 ... absolutely priceless, made me spit out my coffee and burst out in laughter! Have a good one!

Great video! Managed to get a lighter I was gifted up and running in no more than 10 minutes. I used mini screwdriver, cotton buds, wd40, and that’s it! Wish I’d have bothered to look into it sooner, didn’t realise how easy it would be! Thanks again

    Dude your AWESOME!
I don’t care how old this video is.
Many, many thanks to you sir for posting this video and sharing your information on getting a vintage Dunhill Rollagas lighter working again!
Years ago I purchased a nonworking vintage Dunhill Rollagas lighter off Ebay, then sent it off to get it restored and working, etc. and yes it worked well afterwards…..well just recently I was going to use it and well it didn’t work!? It would just spark but not produce a steady flame?
Believe it or not I had already purchased that Service Kit years ago and had it stored. After searching TH-cam videos, etc. I found yours and well after following your instructions, etc. I got my vintage Dunhill Rollagas lighter back, working in excellent condition!
    Again thank you Sir!

i bought my first dunhill from an antique stall at some fate 20+yrs ago, was a 1966 model, worked perfectly, even worked perfectly just before i saw this vid! after that dunhill i went and bought a brand new st dupoint, still have it, but never use it as its a pain to refill, anybody that owns one will know what i mean!, then went and bought a brand new dunhill, the one thats still for sale with dunhill written big and bold both sides of the lighter, that was in 02 iirc, after a few years i started having problems with it, loosing gas and the flame was just wrong, carnt say i helped the matter as i tried to sort the top of the pin out with a pair of pliers! not recommended, so its been sat in it's box for 15yrs or so.
this brings us to today, as on a whim, dont know where it came from, i searched dunhill lighter service, and saw this gem of a vid pop up, i had no idea it was so simple, so now i have a 1966 dunhill with a not so great pin and flame that looses gas, and have a perfectly working dunhill signature again!!

Great video. Just purchased my first 1971 Dunhill Rollagas, (eBay), from Japan. Can't wait for it to get here. And now that I've watched your video I feel more confident about plunking down the two Benjamins to buy it. Before my purchase I did my due dilligence, and came to the same conclusion you have... there's really no way to fake these. The Swiss over-engineer everything. The lighter I bought is in "near mint" condition. For the money I paid compared to the cost of a new Dunhill I figure I got a real bargain considering, as you said, they have cheapened the internals a bit and still cost about a grand. Thanks for all the great info. I have subscribed so just in case I do need to disassemble mine I can get a step-by-step tutorial from someone who knows what he's doing. Like your style!

Thank you very much for the video. Fixed my Dunhill and it works fine. It will definitely need new O rings. For the time being I just stretched them out so they stick out and seal properly. I pulled out the little felt packing in the valve which looked worn and flipped it over. Also the flame tube was clogged and sticky. I tried a very fine wire but it wouldn't go in. Instead I put in a few small drops of WD-40 in it and that did the job.

Many thanks for posting. maybe you should get a go pro and strap it to your head, then you don't need to worry about the camera, we see what you see. You can source one from practically any disposable lighter. I would suggest one from either a flame valve from a clear adjustable Chinese lighter, or a refill valve on any lighter. You can also cut it to size or use a similar flint spring and cut to size.

Fabulous video. It’s a couple of years old now, but it’s still helping people like me sort out their leaking Rollagas lighter. I’m happy to report that my lighter is now fully operational.
The best part is that after I’d buttoned it all up I listened for gas and sure enough it was pissing out. Without this video I’d have sparked it up, which would’ve been fun, but it’s probably better that I didn’t given that after I turned the valve in until I couldn’t hear the gas there was still a big fuckin’ flame...

Fine piece of work. Demystifying the Dunhill. Done with great clarity. I had a great one for many years that was my main travel treasure. It was stolen from my luggage in Italy I think. Had to put it in my check-in luggage since 9-11 as the USA will not let you fly with a lighter in your pocket. So I blame The Terrorists for getting my rollagas stolen. Today my wife bought me another for my 70th birthday and I found your video at same time. Best regards and thank you.

    • @rafaeltorre1643
      @rafaeltorre1643 ปีที่แล้ว

I’m not 100% on the fact its the lighter itself they won’t allow you to have, but it’s illegal to fly with a lighter that contains butane in it for lots of reasons. I guarantee there’s ways to avoid having to do that. Like taking out the flint and butane and/or just disassembling it. I know people who have done it but not sure if it made it legal or not.
