The one thing noone talks about regarding run flats is that they have to be completely thrown away after they've been driven without air.
And they are expensive to start with.

They are expensive and unless your suspension is set up for them you will think you are riding on Fred Flinstone's tires.
You could have strengthend it by putting a few separate compartments on the inside and having the air hole have a tube that runs on the inside of the tire to fill each of the individual compartments with air
Wich would mean it would work like a normal tire, a bit stiffer tho and when you ran over a nail it would only pop one compartment
The compartment that was popped would loose air pressure but the other ones would remain fine and with the added material inside to keep it sturdy you would be able to drive many more miles

That would only work if the compartments are flexible when the tire is moving. Yes you can have what you said but you need some serious material to be able to flex and hold up weight of the car.

Get a flat and then throw the tire away regardless of the amount of tread left. This technology this a step in the wrong directions for consumers but great for tire manufacturers.

Run flats had to be a woman's idea since they have thought for years (since the first tire) that all tires are run flats. Never seen a woman pull over for a flat until the rim melted.

Super Expensive. I’ve had to replace mine twice. Car has only 40,000 miles on it. Guy at tire store said they only last 15-20 thousand miles. No mileage warranty either. I said screw that, bought 4 regular tires with 70,000 warranty and a donut spare for the trunk for about half the price. These tires are for the rich.

CARiD the side wall is what holds the tire up after it goes flat not the air pressure. its built around a very strong side wall. normal side wall tires have a flex to them kind of like a spring

Lots of cars are being made without spare tires, Hyundia, Cadillac, Chevy, Ford, Kia to name a few. You just get an inflator kit. They should at least have run flat tires on these cars. Or make sure their customers know of us.
All new GM cars are equipped with an extra tire. If you buy them used maybe some may be missing the tire

Worst product ever. Causes vibration, stiffness, road sound, expensive, get damaged quickly and non reparable. I got rid of them and replaced them with regular tires, now it rides smooth like I'm driving on glass. Now I'm driving a BMW instead of a bone shaker.

whoever told you it wasnt repairable only did it so they can sell you a new tire. A runflat tire is the same as a normal tire other than the sidewall. If the damage is on the sidewall, it isnt repariable either way

I’ve driven a BMW for 15000 miles since May and it has Run Flat tyres fitted. It has M Sport suspension so the ride is overly firm, however I can’t say it’s so bad that I’d swap out the tyres for conventional tyres. What matters to me is that when I’m in the south of France and I get a nail in a tyre I will still be able to drive quite normally, and yes I’ve seen videos of 6 inch nails puncturing these tyres and the cars keep on going

Today is October 2021 and run flat tires were designed to screw us! What they did not tell you back in 2014 was that once you drove over those nails you could not fix the tires, THEY DO NOT LET YOU!!! So now you have to replace the run flat tire at a cost of a few hundred dollars instead of paying a couple of ten dollars to fix the puncture as in the old style tires. The tire manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank at your expense. AND THE CAR MANUFACTURERS ARE NOT SUPPLYING SPARES AND CAR JACKS AND TOOLS ANYMORE EITHER, they too are laughing at us all the way to the bank. One more time when we have to just bend over and let these corporations and the governments they control have their way with us. So much for "democracy".

0:51 You can NOT take a tight curve like that with even ONE flat run-flat tire, let alone ALL FOUR, like in this commercial. Runflat's sidewall structure breaks down rather quickly after they lose pressure and if your puncture is on the sidewall, GOOD LUCK getting 50 miles of it. MOST of these runflat usually develope bubbles on thier sidewalls which eventually lead to blowouts too. If you get a puncture in the tread, usually it's because of a nail or a screw which lodge into the hole and basically only leak air slowly, and allow you to drive normally to get it fixed, but NOT IF THE SIDEWALL BLOWS OUT which is more common. GIVE ME REAL TIRES AND A SPARE, AND BANISH RUNLFAT TIRES FOREVER
