    As my tire was deflating on my way home, I made it into the garage with 12 psi. Now it is flat. I called and ordered a new one, and after watching this video, feel confident that I can drive to the tire store 2 miles away, when the tire comes in. Thanks so much for sharing this.

    Great vid! And for those that did not know, with the X7, you can also get a space saver spare (and emergency tools) that will fit under the 3rd row seat. Either the OEM one (BMW has a retrofit kit if you did not get the factory space saver spare option) or there are aftermarket options. For my X7 (which also came off the dealer lot with runflats and no factory spare), I purchased the OEM space saver spare wheel/tire, and added my own emergency tools (including an air pump), and it all fits in the OEM space saver spare compartment under the 3rd row seat.

      This is news! No one at the dealer offered this to my brother and he got a flat 150kms away from home. BMW came and picked up the car after 2 hours and he took a cab home.

    I drove like 45 miles on a run flat once. Tire started overheating after 35 miles or so and had to slow down. Worked great, but still put on go flats the next day.

    I drove 40 mi. on failed runflat at 40mph. in my 328i, tire started flopping last 10 miles. When I got home, inner sidewall of tire had virtually separated from the tread entirely. I replaced all four tires with standard go flats, I will take my chances with some stop leak next time. Runflats are not worth the vast increase in cost over standard tires. Get a AAA membership and just have the car towed home, much cheaper.

      You must got the cheap run flat tires. I had a flat on my corvette and drove 67 miles sometimes up to 60 mph. I patched and use it for 3 months before replace with a new one.

    Thank you for this! New owner of a 2012 F30 and bought run flats “just because” basically. But never knew what to expect if damage occurs. In the back of my mind always wondered if they were really any better.

    I caught a deep pothole in my f30 on the highway about 20m from my home. Lf Tire immediately went flat and I knew it, I was able to drive fast enough to keep up with traffic on the highway I was on for another 15m which was about 70mph. I got off the highway when it got to a more windy section and drove on the local roads at no more then 30mph until I got home. There's no chance I would've been able to do that on a regular tire.

      I caught one in my F12 Superfast and let me tell you, it's the only tire to buy.

  • @plasmac9
    @plasmac9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    My experience with run flats is they are much more susceptible to damage. You hit a pothole or something else in the road, the tire won't go flat but there's a good chance the sidewall is going to bubble and then the tire needs to be replaced.

      Or you're more likely to bend the rim, as the force transmits to the rim instead of gets absorbed.

    Had a flat with mine when the tire was just 2 weeks old. I do keep a small compressor in my car, inflated the flag one and drove to a shop. It was only a nail, so it deflated slowly. Because of inflating the tire they were actually able to plug the tire.

    After like a week of owning my 2022 M340i, I managed to get a nail on the right front tire and somehow a bolt in the rear driver side tire at the same time. My luck. Let’s just say, it was an expensive experience. Somehow, almost every time I buy a new car, this happens within weeks of ownership.

    This happened on my F30 when I worked 100 miles one way and I seen the light go on when I was on the freeway going home from work. I was like oh I’m fine and drove back home and was doing 80 plus MPH. When I got home I smelt rubber and drove it to the tire shop and they were concerned when they took off the tire because inside was shot and needed to be replaced which I did. So yea it’s totally worth it to me ! I have them on my 650i Gran Coupe now. Now don’t do the 80 MPH cuz I feel I was lucky lol.

    You don't feel it mainly because of the active suspension which I assume the car is equipped with and the computer adjusts according to the pressure monitor reading. Add the elecric steering and the car goes senseless. On a regular shocks you can tell what is going on for sure ;0-)

  • @rodmanser7573
    @rodmanser7573 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Pirelli, Conti and Bridgestone only BMW Star RSC approved RF's. No more Michelin's? Drive 50 miles and the tire is toast no matter what made it flat. Directional control will be bad but you can make 50 mph, exceed that speed and it's Russian roulette as to how many miles you will run. Also for alignments on staggered set ups, you'll want to replace them in pairs - not just one tire. And, finally if you leave the car parked for long periods you'l want some chalks so they don not become lumpy - RF are much worse. But it's $900 for a front set and $1000 for a rear set.

    can these tires be fixed?
    I mean not the one on the video with all those holes, roads are poorly mantained here in my country so I was considering swaping my all seasons with run flats, the only concern is that the reviews at tirerack say that they are rally stiff and hard on the sides and the ride is not as comfortable as conventional tires.

    So is it possible to record the screen of my idrive system ? I have a BMW F30 with NBT Evo ID6.
    I know that if you have apple car play activated and screenshot on your phone it will also screenshot the idrive screen but that's something different. I want to know if I can do it with normal idrive system or even record it ?

    The problem with run-flats is you don't know they are flat. You can press the sidewall of a run flat tire that is completely flat and it will be rock hard. You need to feel the actual surface of the tire to know if you have a flat. Happened to me today.

    • @sirreginaldthe4th

      Run flats are required to have TPMS sensors. So not sure how you don't know you have a flat tire unless your TPMS system is not functional.
