    Missing a little known fact: If you press the FOB button the target's eyes flash yellow twice and often makes a short "Bweu-Bwip" noise.

    The fobs only make sense for the "bail jumper" bounties, as the authorities had them in custody once and could have chipped them, or done full sensor scans, but how does this work on Baby Yoda unless the Imperials had him once and lost him. Also how do bounty hunters find and catch criminals on the run who've not been caught before. Finding a chipped bounty is the easy option surely and beneath a Mandalorian hunter wouldn't you think.

    The fob can be really important for identifying a target if it goes of some kind of bio-metrics. Don't forget in TCW when Obi Wan had his face and voice changed to take over the identify of Rako Hardeen. Looked and sounded like him but I'm guessing if there was a fob it would not have reacted since it was not Rako it just looked like him.

    You can manipulate the face and/or body of a target to pass it off as real. Faces change. Fingerprints don’t; they remain the same over your entire life.
    Obviously the tracking FOB’s don’t use radio waves; those are EM energy, yes, but they have pretty limited range. Microwaves are LOS; we use infrared for LOS things, as well (alarm sensor beams). UV should be a good option.

  • @Zipzeolocke
    @Zipzeolocke 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I believe the tracking fobs only work within a limited range of whatever planet they are on because otherwise the Mandalorian would have countless bounty hunters on his case literally every hour! There are so many of those tracking fobs handed out it wouldn't make any sense if they automatically all new the direction to go to find the baby. In episode 4 the bounty Hunter who found the kid only got lucky he got the signal while visiting the planet. My guess is they hold onto the tracking fobs and explore the galaxy visiting planets randomly until they get a signal. From there it's a game of hot or cold until they approach the hot and find the kid.
    It doesn't work like a GPS device because if it did then he would have dozens of bounty hunters every single day on whatever planet he visits. The tracking fob clearly has a very limited range

    My best guess is that Fobs are DNA trackers that can be deactivate (and reactivated) remotely. They are cheap and can only have 1 DNA sample loaded into them, hence why they have to be turned in. I think the Mando only wanted the Chain Code so he could get an ID on the Target and not have to rely only on the Fob.

    • @louiscypher4186
      @louiscypher4186 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's two schools of thought for the word fob. One is that the term was adapted from the small pendents and what not that people used to put on their keychains (like a rabbits foot for example) and simply carried over to small remote controlled devices.
      the other is that it stems from the acronym for frequency operated button. Things like garage door openers, building access devices, car alarms, were all (and many still are) operated by fob's and the word simply carried over to any hand held wireless access device.
      Tracking Fob's are a real thing, they exist today there's infrared, WiFi, bluetooth, radio and even GPS tracking fobs.

    Sounds about right. I would suspect that the chain code if you have the entire code could be used to scan a planet and figure out if the target is on it, other wise the shear cost of the fuel consumed would make it impossible to hire a bounty hunter, remember 5k of credits for the job doesn't even cover fuel costs, i suspect that is for the multiple number of jumps it takes just to find the target with the full code. knowing the planet and the last location the hunter could fly across till he gets a signal then land a proceed on foot which makes sense as the ship burns fuel flying around, better to land as soon as you can as far away as you can to avoid spooking a target.

    It's most likely a signal that tracks genetic sequences in the target it proves that the target is really the target avoiding the old clone swap out since clones don't have the exact same DNA there's genetic markers that show up in clones the old republic game had you dealing with a bounty who had a clone prepared to get killed and taken in instead of him and he mentioned he had to add some of his actual DNA to prove identity of the clone I would guess the fobs can track targets based on the DNA chain and they had a incomplete sequence but once they got the baby they were able to extract some DNA and were able to update the fobs wirelessly with a complete DNA chain and with the holonet it can be assumed that it works like planetary wifi both rebels and clone wars showed that such signals can be spread to reach planets that being said I'd say the range on the fobs would be planet wide but no farther

    I assume that the tracking fobs track genetic information. The "CHAIN" code is called that because DNA is comprised of two polynucleotide chains that coil around each other to form a double helix carrying genetic instructions. The Chain code has information identifying key DNA markers to the individual bounty as well as other useful information. Assuming that most inhabited planets with any kind of technological infrastructure makes heavy use of sensors to interact with its population there would be recordings of a multitude of information on individuals in a given area. Much like how our histories on the internet are recorded, traded and sold as a commodity. The tracking fob can log into these data bases and find a information trail on an individual to help in the search. Once the hunter is within a certain distance then the fob itself or in conjunction with the bounty puck can directly track the position of the genetic target. This could be why the Imperials did not divulge all the genetic info of the child's chain code because they did not want that particular commodity to become publicly available.

    If it was any sort of chip or transmitter as we think of it then the technology to find it and remove it from one's body would be as readily available in the Star Wars Universe (er galactic areas where the story takes place ) as the average Astromech Droid especially given the shady nature of the clients typically being searched for. So it has to be based on a type of technology that isn’t easily detectable or identified by any bog standard scanner or it would just be removed or get cut off accidentally in a lightsaber fight and be useless to a guild like the Hunters. Obviously nothing we have, so the only thing in real science that comes to mind it could be based on is entangled particles, or what Einstein called “spooky action at a distance” whereby the spin of entangled particles always matches exactly no matter how far apart physically they get. This could be - for story purposes - something inherently biological and not necessarily something added to the being, *but* would at least require some sample of the being (of, obviously, at least one particle) or since we're in the realm of suoer advanced tech, at least one previous scan or medical data that contained enough reliable quantum details on subject to be able construct an entangled particle duplicate to key the tracker on. That way you'd never have to worry about a chip being removed, but rather the unique particle it is keyed on. Now of course our Earth biology involves almost every cell in a body being replaced within say 20 years as a rough average by natural biological processes so that you are quite literally not the same person you were 20 years ago, but perhaps Yoda baby's cell division - or Star Wars galaxy biology in general works differently. Or far more likely, we're just way overthinking a plot device that will not get explained, and doesn't even really need to be for this wonderful series to keep being as entertaining as anything since the OT! :-)

    I challenge the idea that there's an active transmitter inside the target. rather, the fobs are related to the chain codes. I suspect the chain code is a code that is put into DNA form and embedded in every person at birth, so it winds up in every cell of your body. As you shed cells from skin cells, hair, sputum, and excrement, your chain code winds up in the ecosystem as a trail of crumbs, AND the specific DNA chain has a spectrum that the tracking fob is tuned to. This is why hunters need to know what worlds the target has been last seen on, then use detective skills to follow from there, because the fob does not work at interstellar distances. The fob may also record its history so if you kill a target, the fob will record the death, and you can turn the fob in to receive the reduced bounty.

    I don't think the Mandalorian is going to have much time. If you notice that Greef climbed down a ladder on the Razor Crest to confront the Mandalorian. I think he planted a homing device somewhere on the ship. I also have a theory that the client might be Brendol Hux, but that might just be my ignorance of the character talking. You may know a million reasons that wouldn't make any sense.

    What I don't get is if they don't have grogu's chain code as the Mandalorian was told when he received it, then how does the fob work for grogu

    My guess of how this tracking fob works is a combination of quantum entanglement and DNA sequences. I assume a library of sentient lifeforms is registered at birth. That DNA can then be inserted into the fob itself (and through some as yet undiscovered quantum technology) be entangled or interconnected to its original genetic source regardless of distance. Because of the quantum entangled nature real-time instantaneous updating would be possible regardless of light year distances.

    One thing I don’t get is that in chapter 3 all the fobs in the guild go off because the mando has baby yoda near all the guild members but since he technically completed the bounty shouldn’t all the fobs be wiped of the bounty since he completed it? Like shouldn’t the fobs not work since he completed the bounty?

    I think the targets having transmitter is false. Why would you need to hire a Bounty Hunter when you know where the target is. And if baby Yoda had one why wouldn't the Mandalorian have deactivated it?

    My personal understanding is that the fob reacts to the targets DNA or something. Most regular bounties are on criminals or people who owe money right? So getting a sample of their DNA is not that hard. We're just talking regular bread and butter bounties, not big stuff or when the target is widely known.

    Why is this on this channel? I'm just wondering, because you usually do all your Star Wars content on the main channel. It's not technically part of the film genre either, it's a series and I'm confused.

  • @YoungBison

    As far as why they return the fobs, there are tens of thousands of planets in star wars and trillions of intelligent life forms, there is a good chance that you could find a random person that looks like your target

    The tracking fob tracks a target someone through their chain code. I don't know if the tracking fob is a good addition or just a plot device. For me, if skilled bounty hunters used these to track their targets it kinda ruins how skilled they are.

    I'm pretty sure star wars antennas aren't the same as your AV TV aerial... So you can't compare it to our technology. Nah, the doctor may have prepared the fob but that doesn't mean he has anything to do with reactivating it. He already made the thing, so the empire has what they need already.

    Fobs area really shitty example of plot-convenience. Basically they didn't want to show the mando actually looking for the baby and for some reason they also didn't want to just...tell him where it was. So now we're left with impossible technology that makes no sense. If there's a tracker people would know about it and remove it, we allready have a pretty good idea how star wars trackers work anyways. and it's way to small to be a sensor of the power neccessary to have detect specific lifesigns over that much of a distance.
    Hey, no show is perfect and hopefully they realise their mistake and avoid stuff like this in the future. They presumably have to adress it in the future again since he's now on the run with the baby. otherwise everyone would know where they are, allways.

    Most likely it is a chip implanted in the target. Anakin did mention having a chip in his body that prevents him from escaping as a slave.
