The Mandalorian has an awesome new weapon. Not a blaster, lightsaber, or even bo-rifle, but a Star Wars weapon banned by the Imperial Senate. A disruptor rifle. See how it worked, how it was used throughout Star Wars history, and why the Mandalorians used them. Also some speculation as to how The Mandalorian came to own one.

Just to be clear the whole time and neuron part is from the lore saying how "excruciating" death by disruptor was. My BS degree was neuroscience focused, worked in a neuro lab so I know how parts of the explanation are silly. But it's much less of a suspense than accepting other SW realities like hyperdrives. People often confuse what I think vs me giving the best explanation of the lore.

I know what you mean. I definitely am not criticizing you and I'm sorry if I came across that way. I know that the lore comes from other sources and I like your channel for condensing and sharing it. I just remember growing up before the excessive amounts of lore that has to seemingly explain away every little thing making such galactic issues of such small things. It's kind of amusing but at the same time annoying.
This is one of those cases where I think the lore got carried away and forgot that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

@@rawb After taking a look at it i can say that although you're obviously putting in the effort, the writing and "joke" structure of your abridged series is too random and not really based on anything to be well liked by a broader audience.
If you look at more popular abridged series like DBZ abridged, SAO Abridged and Hellsing Ultimate Abridged (now the people are the golden examples of Abridging and writing a series so don't be discouraged about their level of production) they have rewritten entire characters and let their jokes stick to how their characters and personalities of said characters are written.
Their abridged characters still go trough their own personality growths and character plot just as the original characters have.
Although you're already at a bit of a disadvantage by not abridging an animated show :')

@@shadeymcbones6707 I think this exact opinion could be applied to dvz abridged if you only watch a few episodes. The mandalorian doesn't have a lot of "character" development in it so it can't possible occur in those first half dozen episodes where he is by himself doing nothing but walking around ya know? It isn't till he meets up with the IG unit that you can start to do those stories.
I appreciate the long feedback my man, but tbh it's nothing to do with "joke" structure and everything to do with just the way the internet works. Sometimes it doesn't matter how funny or unfunny something is, you can't control if it gets popular or not.
I made top10numbers.com for example in 2017 and it didn't blow up until 2019 when some other random youtubers/streamers started watching the video on stream. I bet you if you watched through the IG parts where they get baby yoda you would see that char developement your looking for slowly.

    The fun thing is...
Every direct energy weapon works by splitting molecular bonds. Give any molecule enough energy so that it's thermal vibration becomes stronger than bonds holding it together and it will break from structural lattice and become liquid, vapor, or ever fall apart completely or reacts with something else.
So, in the end of the day ... disruptor rifle IS just a very powerful blaster. It is very powerful and compact in the same time, somehow.

The Varon-T Disruptor mentioned and seen once in Star Trek: The Next Generation ("The Most Toys") strikes me as having been a loose basis for a lot of this expanded lore on the weapon type in Star Wars. Granted, it didn't instantly vaporize its victims but rather visibly showed them in agony as the disruption effect spread and ultimately consumed their body. Funny enough, the Romulan disruptors were shown to act much the same way (TNG: "Face of the Enemy", "Timescape"), yet the Varon-T was the only weapon of its class that was banned by every major power in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.

While the disruptor sounds incredibly painful on paper, it is important to remember that the human brain is not perfect. It takes time for our brains to process any stimuli it is subject to including pain. If you analyse what happens to flesh when subject to a bullet wound, the implications should be excrutiating and it is but not until after a few seconds. The shock of being shot is utterly incomprehensible to the human brain which has, in most cases, never experienced anything quite like it and so processing the information takes time and there are many recounts by gunshot victems saying they didn't even notice they had been shot until a few seconds later. A disruptor weapon would theoretically be similar in that the brain would not be able to process what's happening to the body very quickly and you would quite certainly be dead before it did so what I am getting at is that a death by one of these weapons would be completely painless. Forgeting bullets and brain processing time for a moment; in the video the pain is likened to that resulting of a burn, but the funny thing about burns is that the pain actually decreases with the severity as nerves are incinerated and can no longer relay any information to the brain. If the bodys nervous system was simultainiously destroyed as the video suggests, exactly from where is the information for the brain to process as pain even supposed to come from?

rewatching the clone wars series, i just noticed that the umbarans use disintegraters (atleast disintegrate-like weaponry) in their giant cannon walkers. in the second episode of the umbara arc at 11:46, several clones get hit and disintegrate into blue puffs of smoke D:

The mando’s disruptor is not a rapid fire weapon. It is a trap door breach loader which is very powerful, but a single shot. So there is a balance in the Mandalorian show. High powered weapon with a slow rate of fire.

The rl weapon shown at the end was a emp type weapon in development for on the field electrical warfare and would have next to no use on a human target and the target would not know if he was being hit with this anti drone weapon. Although until laser tech becomes advanced enough to disintegrate flesh (lol what do you know) it is band from war for causing unnecessary suffering and overall won't kill.

You missed Luke's aunt and uncle being killed by Disruptors. That's why Vader said that to Fett. It's heavily implied that Boba Fett was the one sent to kill Luke by the Emperor. Vader, not wanting this fate for his son, even unconsciously, had to have been incensed. But couldn't reveal this, and simply told Fett not to use it. Fett tried to anyways against Chewbacca and Leia, in Empire, and Vader actually stopped Fett from firing.

that "slow down of time" doesn't actually happen. it's just that the events are recorded in more detail in your memory, making you think they lasted longer in retrospect. at the rate of disintegration in this move, you would cease to exist before you felt anything, and likely even before you registered the flash of light from the firing weapon. completely painless. the electrical/chemical signals of your nerve simply can't travel anywhere near that fast.

If you want to protect yourself, get a double-barrel laser gun. Have the shells for a 12-gauge laser gun, and I promise you as I told my wife, we live in an area that’s wooded and somewhat secluded. I said, Jill if there’s ever problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out, put that double-barrel laser gun and fire two blasts outside the house. I promise you whoever’s coming in is not going. You don't need a disruptor. It's harder to aim, it's harder to use, and in fact, you don't need 30 rounds to protect yourself. Buy a laser gun. Buy a laser gun. ~Viceroy Joe

  • @jj4013

Im going to have to disagree with the extreme pain part. It looks like the target is completely destroyed in about a tenth of a second. Compaired to Pain signals which actually travel pretty slow (around 0.6 meters per second) so they wont event reach the brain in time to register. This is only for humans of course, but we can probally assume that most other creatures have similar nervous systems to us.

  • @pyalot
    @pyalot 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Funny, because speed of neurotransmission (the ability of neurons to interact and therefore form sensation) is anywhere between 1-100m/s. The disruption seems to happen very much faster than that, with the disruption wafefront at a speed anywhere between 1000-6000m/s outracing any sensation propagation, it would be impossible to feel the disruption at all. And the „time slowing“ effect is an artifact of memory, it appears that way in retrospect because of the massive release of adrenaline and aftershock changing the flavor of the memory engram.
Nice to see the Senate making completely unscientific decisions to ban most possibly the most merciful and painless weapon in existence (disruptors) in favor of other weapons that maim and injure in agonizing painful slow ways (blasters). Kind of how politicians fearmonger about vaping, while completely ignoring the massive suffering and death caused by smoking.

If it was a slow disintegration it would be inhumane, but seeing as they disintegrate in a few seconds I doubt they feel much at all. The nervous system would overload and go blank, essentially feeling nothing with that much input. Compare that with being set on fire which takes longer to die and you can hear the person suffer as all of their cells and nerves are being burnt away.

If you have a question about Star Wars, that begins with "Why", the answer is usually, "To fix yet another screw-up or inconsistency or failure of logic, caused by shitty lazy writing".
Q: "Why was C3P0's memory wiped" A: "Because George wanted him in the prequels, but needed to explain why he didn't recognize Obi-Wan in Episode IV" (Though this doesn't explain why Obi-Wan wasn't like: "Hey! It's the two droids I shared many life-or-death adventuires with over the course of three movies!")
This weapon being banned by the Empire, is the answer/fix to the question/shitty writing: "If this weapon exists and can do all that, why are the Empire trying to rule the galaxy using storm troopers armed with pea shooters"
The whole saga is filled with lines of dialogue that only exist in order to fix or retcon something caused by pure lazy-ass writing..."from a certain point of view".
