3:44- 3:51 When you talking about being a Jack of all trades and being a master of none, you didn’t finish the quote. The full phrase is “a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” It was a compliment, being a jack of all trades allows you to have a better idea and knowledge about various fields. Keep expanding your arsenal of mediums and most importantly keep being creative!
Thank you so much Brielle! ❤️ I've always felt the need to learn as many skills and mediums as possible when it comes to making art, it's nice to know that it's not necessarily a bad thing 😅 Thank you so much for watching and for leaving such a lovely comment!
Wow! I’m the sammme wayy!! The whole saying is supposedly, “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but still is better than a master of one.” Besides, you’d be surprised how much of these skills crossover into new ones!! Lovely art and lovely video!!🌟
I'd argue if you are truly a master of one that's more than enough lol. (also apparently the 2nd part of that quote wasn't found in older writings/quotes and is a fairly recent edition in the 20th century)
Yes! I was going to put the full quote too. It's so important to remember, it's great to be well rounded and dip your toes into everything. You have your whole life to experiment and specialize, if you choose to.
Wow! I never thought to paint with watercolor on canvas! The eye turned out so cool! Also those opaque White Nights watercolors are my all time favorites! I was lucky to bring them with me from Saint-Petersburg 💕☺️
Thanks so much Meu! 🥰 The watercolor on canvas was a very spur of the moment decision haha, but it was so much fun! This was my first go with opaque watercolors and I really enjoyed them 👀 I have such a weakness for pastel colored art supplies!
Your art style is so pleasant to look at! Im a sucker for textured and layered paintings so this video was really fun to watch. Keep going! Looking forward to your next upload
Hi! This video is so inspiring. Let me inspire you back with the full quote: "a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one." 💙
@@emhuesart I have said many times, I want to try it all before I die! And there are so many artistic disciplines I have NOT mastered, but really, quite a few that I have reached a legitimately decent level of quality on that I have zero regrets. Still on the list to try: Lampwork/glass blowing, thrown pottery, sculpting/modeling a full figure in clay, bobbin lace, wood turning, probably more that I will think of later. The "done" list is just too long. Everything from spinning my own laceweight yarns to knit or crochet, sewing and quilting, loom weaving, and lately on to watercolor, gel plate printing and collage. It truly...never ends!
These videos are becoming my new comfort watches. Your voice and drawings have a way of soothing me and inspiring me to work like no other. Thanks for all of your effort you put into these. I hope so many more people will be blessed by finding your channel
This was so so wonderful to read! It makes me so happy to think that my videos are a comfort watch for people ❤️ thank you so much for watching and leaving the nicest comment!
Thank you so much Chantelle 💛 I do like to be aware of my struggle areas so that I know what it is that I need to improve/ focus on - but you are absolutely right, it is important that we don't bring ourselves down while doing that! 😊 Thanks for watching and happy creating!
The full quote is actually “a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” so your quest to be good in all mediums is not a bad one! I'm the same haha
I havent used the ground, i've hear so many different views about it that im wary to buy any to try, i like how your watercolor sketches turned out, so might have to look fo the smallest bottle i can try
It definitely has lovers and haters! I really like how it allowed me to paint in my sketchbook with wet on wet techniques and no paper buckling 😊💛 thanks for watching Fuzzy!
when I see people getting super pretty results from watercolors like yours it makes me want to try it again, even though I know I suck at watercolors, but hey, how am I going to learn otherwise? I think tomorrow I'm going to try again, that'll be my own little valentine's date with myself ^^ great video, Emily!!
Think of painting with watercolors as pushing the water around like mopping. Guiding the watercolor where you want it, and slowly, little by little pushing and soaking it into the paper. Make sure your paper isn’t too cheap, cause that is apart of why many beginners give up because they choose the wrong paper. Don’t give up! I’ve been painting professionally for a few years now but I’m still learning new techniques and mediums lol sorry to rant a bit, I love encouraging people to keep up their art.
@@garzapinups oh no don't be sorry, your explanation makes a lot of sense!! sometimes watercolor seems like too out of control, but you helped me visualize better what I could do to paint :) and you are so sweet for encouraging us, thank you for that, sometimes it's needed. I did paint an eye the 14th and I had a lot of fun! it didn't look as bad as other times I tried it in the past... maybe I have a better understanding of color than the one I had back then, but I'll definetely will try it again your tips! have a great day!
I am so glad this video inspired you to try watercolors again! 💛 I am a huge believer in learning by trying and failing in art- I think it is so important to remember that every single artist makes bad art a decent percent of the time! It's the most valuable way to learn and improve! I think we can learn to enjoy the struggles and failures that come with making art. How cool is it when we can look back at past art and see how we have improved since then? Thanks so much for watching, happy creating!! 😊
@@emhuesart thank you so so so much!!! I'm learning to be more forgiving to myself when I make mistakes, and It feels great to create without judging yourself so much!! I love your channel! 💖💖💖
I just love when people share their art knowledge in the comments for others to learn from! An art community where everyone encourages each other to learn and grow in a positive way is just so wonderful! 💛✨ Thanks so much Garza!
Beautiful work Emily, I am also trying the head challenge purely for practice. I was wondering do you know how to put those heads in order? Or do you just choose randomly. Also are you attempting the sculptured heads? Thanks
Thank you Stephanie! I'm actually using my own found references for this challenge, as I've attempted it before in pencil, and wanted some new refs to work from this time! I think the sculpted heads are a great addition though, I'd definitely recommend giving them a try if you can. 😊
Love the idea of paining with watercolors on a canvas!Definitely want to give that a try 😁 Also, I’ve been subbed to your channel since before 1k and I’m so happy to see how much it’s been growing! Keep it up! :)
ooh you should totally give it a try, it was so much fun! I really enjoyed how the watercolors acted on the canvas. 😄 Thank you so much for all of your support Adar! I remember you as being one of the early commenters ❤️ I really appreciate it!!
I love the eye watercolor painting! It looks super cute, nice color palette as well! 🥰❤❤ I'm terrified with watercolors though, looks too difficult for me 😢
Thanks so much Jessica! Watercolors can be super scary and unruly haha, but they are so much fun! I think you'd really enjoy and make beautiful work with them! ❤️✨
Ah watercolor ground. I want to love it, but I don't. It can be handy to cover up unfixable mistakes though. But fwiw I've painted on the Moleskine artplus sketchbooks with no treatment and had no real problems. The paint soaks in faster but you can use that to your advantage and focus on bold strokes instead of blending and wet in wet. Just a thought. I could also see you using the treated canvas by painting a really dark layer over the whole thing, then just start lifting out the lights and see where it goes.
Ooh I'll have to try painting in the sketchbook untreated to compare. I do enjoy getting some lovely wet-on-wet effects, but painting in a bolder manner can be great to practice making good stroke decisions! I also liked how the ground kept the pages from curling, but in a sketchbook, that's not such a big deal. I LOVE the idea of lifting out the highlights from a darker layer, I do something similar in my oil paintings! Thanks so much for sharing Sarah, I really appreciate it!
I was originally just into alcohol markers, and then came: I'll just try some acrylic gouache, well now I have to try traditional gouache, oh what about watercolors! I'm stopping myself from trying new mediums just so I can learn get the hang of what I already have 😅😅
Haha I am the same way! For me it was: oil painting, and then gouache, then watercolor, and now alcohol markers and colored pencils 😅 I love trying new mediums- but I do have to remind myself to work on building skills with the ones I am already using! Thanks so much for watching! 💛
I’m totally the same way, it’s like my brain has 534 tabs open sometimes! I love trying different mediums too…one concept I remember is to never be an expert in anything, because if you remain an amateur, you’ll constantly be learning and improving.
Haha exactly!! Sometimes there are so many things I want to do/ try that I don't even know where to land. I want to try everything but I also want to master certain things 😅 It can be frustrating! But you're absolutely right, there isn't ever a point where we will stop learning in art -and that's one of the things that I love most about being an artist! Thanks so much for watching! ☺️❤️
I made up my own rules, so I'm not doing it with any time limit! You can do the challenge however works best for you 😊 it's all about learning and having fun!
