  • Ukraine is converting salvaged Russian PKT machine guns for ground use. There appears to be a car repair shop in Kyiv which is taking in captured and salvaged Russian tank machine guns and adapting them for ground use with an ad-hoc stock and pistol grip assembly. Fascinating ingenuity, but not without historical precedence.

I have noted the men stripping the PKTs from the armoured vehicles. Now the question is answered, ingenuity and adaption to make these things useful!

The troops need 'tools' to do their job and it looks like these mechanics could use better tools (and safety glasses) to modify the guns into the 'tools' the troops can use. It would be interesting to know if since the story came out weapons manufacturers, armorers and machine tool companies are sending them machines, conversion kits or advice on modifying the guns.

Brings back my much younger days working on my machines (known to most as firearms). A joy understanding the internal workings of my various machines. Working at 2 Nuc plants helped. Lots of time to play thanks to the DOE.
Many, MANY congrates from me to yall, the brave countries craftsmen (and women). To use your educated and trained talents and make free your country. Confiscate any and all. Repair and send back 1000's of 12.7 and 762 rounds back to Vlad. You Mechanic's, machinist's, welders, sheet metal, engineers, inspectors, all my brothers and sisters who heat treat and know metal. That scrape of metal on the road can be made a gift back to VLAD. God is with you in MARIUPOLE.

mounting a rear sight using a old M1917 Eddystone or Type 77 Arisaka would work well for adjusting for elevation and distance, a simple M-60 style front sight fixture for the barrel would work well, even a old M1 Garand or M1 Carbine rear sights that is adjustable for windage & elevation would work well too.

""Fascination and ingenuity"" those weapons with aiming systems as it is seen that they were adapted in the hands of a shooter who knows how to handle them are tremendous, devastating and with a longer barrel for better precision and range, digital or regular scopes or better night vision for those guns that's nice!!!

Thank you for this very detailed analysis. It deeply helps. The efforts by these guys in converting all the weapons captured is just absolutely brilliant. I’d imagine the reason why we haven’t seen too many of them on the front lines is just because the country is so big, that once they get out there fighting it is very unlikely to see them again. Wish these guys the best of luck and keep up the good luck. Slava Ukraine

Does anyone know what it takes to convert a coaxial FN MAG/M240 or an MG3 to ground operation? As good as this work undoubtedly is, I wonder if it would be necessary for the Western equivalents? From the photographs I have seen of coaxially mounted MAGs and MG3s, it doesn't like much work would be needed.
Ideally, you'd be able to take a coaxially-mounted GPMG out of the vehicle, and swap a few components without having to use tools (other than a cartridge or something else to act as a punch) to make a ground gun.

You should REALLY SEE the ingenuity of the Croatian defenders in 1991. Croatian Homeland War when Balkanian mini-Russians aka "Greater"Serbians attacked Croatia, making the situation the same or worse than Russians in Ukraine with their endless supply of ammo and ordnance, let alone non-existing moral codex! YOu can see that on the site of the Croatian Police,in the Homeland War Museums and numerous home collections and even a business that derived from that creating copy of the Uzi and numerous similar firearms that is better than the Original in one region particularly! Many have but the attritional rate of any war on this scale is going to be significant. Additionally, we really don't know what sort of scale this work is going on at - could just be this one workshop putting them together locally for the local TDF battalions. Yet to see other workshops doing similar (but that equally doesn't mean it isn't happening). Just an interesting aspect of the Ukrainian war effort. Thanks for watchin!

you also help Hitler too, you now helping the unfinished descendants of the Organization of Ukrainian Nazis and UPA, one day with your help you will achieve a nuclear war, if your leaders do not understand this, then they do not care about you and we will all burn in a nuclear frenzy.
