A conundrum that I hope the Strange Man will tackle: There is a group of six corpses in prison garb in a forest in Roanoke Ridge near Kamassa river. Among them is one one guy leaning against a tree holding his own skull in his hands. Furthermore there is a pair of severed feet among the dead corpses and, a bit North of the other men, a seventh corpse without feet. The dead men are tied together with chains....So very likely they are a runaway chain gang that somehow died in the forest....But what is their story??.......----> Please vote this comment up so that he sees it and makes a video about that little mystery that gets to the bottom of it.

I don't think there's any concrete hints, it looks to me like they escaped together and couldn't unlock the chains, then started dying or perhaps killing eachother and someone cut his own foot off to escape.
I've played this game enough times that I've come up with my answer to this question. John is Jack's biological father. I think John and Abigail were together long enough to make Jack John's son. John just said that he wasn't to push away his responsibilities of being a father. To me that was because of fear that he wasn't going to be a good enough dad, but that's just me, believe what you think. Yes, when I first started playing, I wasn't too sure. But after playing it for so long and becoming very intrested with the backstories and history of the gang, I believe John is Jack's father.
In epilogue John fishing with Jack in that mission we can see John is not good with Jack

Javier saying "children" in that clip you showed reminded me... John apparently has a deceased daughter that is barely mentioned at all. Are there any clues anywhere that I'm missing that may point to when she was born?
From what I heard there is a crib that can found in the attic in RDR1, so I'm guessing between 1907-1911, because it isn't there in the RDR2 epilogue and they would not have been able to keep it anyway before moving to Beecher's Hope.
Edit: There is also a conversation that can be had between John and Abigail in the epilogue where Abigail is knitting and John tells her something like, “It could be nice to knit for someone new some day.”, hinting to her that he wants another kid.
John briefly mentions having had a daughter that has passed away in RDR1. Otherwise there's basically nothing so we can only assume she died somehow between the epilogue of RDR2 and RDR1

Then again when John, Abigail and uncle were buried with "wooden" tomb stones which overtime gets broken down into the soil since it's just a small piece wood and not stone so maybe the did the same with the daughter?

Jack is literally a walking clone of John. Same strut, same exact height, build, animations. Literally the same character model. Everything is exactly the same aside from the face, and Jack’s face looks like a good mix of John and Abigail. Anyone who’s played and beaten RDR1 knows jack is John’s biological son. I don’t know why people think Jack looks like Javier, because I don’t see it at all.

Right, the makers of the game made Jack specifically based off John’s character model. So they obviously think he’s his son. In canon, there is no denying their son. I don’t mind people having their own theories, but what is meant to be the truth is that John is Jack’s biological child.

If you beat rdr1 and play as jack you can see the similarities between him and Javier

I personally believe John is Jack's biological father, but the jokes and insults are there to put doubt into the story, like Strange Man said, increasing immersion. And even if John isn't Jack's biological father, John is Jack's father. No amount of shared blood or lack thereof can change the father-son relationship they form. To me, family is about love and care, not about ties.

Actually, according to the timeline, it’d be pretty unlikely for Javier to be the father. Abigail joined the gang in 1894, after having been introduced by Uncle of all people, Javier joined the gang in 1895, the same year of Jack’s birth. So unless Jack’s birthday is in October, November, or December (Or if he was premature) Javier couldn’t have been the father. It is a distinct possibility that Uncle is the father, but Jack didn’t inherit the terminal lumbago, so probably not him. So I’d say John, maybe Dutch, Arthur, or maybe Bill, Pearson is also a possibility but I highly doubt that.
Personally, I really do think he’s John’s, and Dutch was just trying to sow doubt in John to get in his head.

I think John says what he does about doubting Jack is his just to hurt Abigail. And if she was a "working girl", she would know how to a)track her cycle to remain safe from pregnancy as well as b)terminate a pregnancy. She'd likely know exactly who the father is and kept the child for that reason.

Personality and behavior aren’t only determined by your genetics, the environment you grow up in has a huge impact. Plus johns been the assumed father the whole time, so jack could pick up on his mannerisms without John actually being the Biological dad

I feel that while they may have also included it for immersion the added doubt about who Jack’s father is also makes John’s acceptance of him much more meaningful. Like Rob said, John is the one who decided to man up and accept Jack as his own child even if he did have doubts about whether he was the actual father.

Very important point you forgot to mention: RDR1 NPC's who have met John ask Jack if he is John's son before he even introduces himself. That's how much they look alike.
You also didn't compare 19 year old jack to 26 (1899) year old John. There's a striking resemblance, much more than Jack has to Javier.
Lastly, if Abigail were to lie about who the father was, why would she choose the least responsible man in the gang for the role of the father?
We know Abigail cares about jack. She would have chosen Dutch or Arthur if she wanted a responsible/resourceful father figure.
She chose John instead because even she knew he was the real father and she is an honest woman.

Plenty of fathers discover that their children aren’t theirs even in modern society. It would be rather absurd if it wasn’t more prevalent prior to the invention of DNA testing.
Most conundrums can be solved either partially or entirely by simply following the money.
Here’s why I think Jack is John’s biological son: Abigail loved John and wanted to bear his children, and ONLY his children. As a sex worker, she would need to know how to keep from getting pregnant (and there were definitely types of birth control, albeit crude, that were available at the time) so I believe she only went without contraceptives when she was with John.
Don't think that's possible back then as you think. Abigail most likely just hoped and prayed and thankfully ended up with John's, since she loved him the most.

I personally believe that Jack is not John’s biological son. I think Abigail knows who the true father is but never admits it to anyone not even John, but that John secretly suspects and actually knows who Jacks father is hence him leaving the gang for a year. I think it’s johns deep love for Abigail that makes him return to the gang and step in as the father figure something he is reluctant and resentful of, but when Jack is kidnapped I think John realises how much he loves Jack and how biology doesn’t matter, what matters is love and that love gets us all in the end. So who is Jack’s biological father? I personally believe Jack is Dutch’s biological son and this is what causes John to find it hard to be a father for Jack. Dutch was Johns adopted father who betrayed him and abandoned his son, causing John to loose faith but also to begin to see the real flawed Dutch that Arthur couldn’t see.

Not at all bro and even then John didn’t have deep love for Abigail at first, he only chooses to be with her for the sake of Jack, his son, being taken. John left bc he had doubts of his own ability to be a decent father also bc he knew you couldn’t safely raise a child in the environment they were in, but he was too far into the outlaw life he thought he could never change but ended up returning to DUTCH, not her or Jack.

John knew Jack was his father and was simply in denial. That's probably why he ran away from the gang for a year when the boy was born.

I did read somewhere that Javier joined the gang in 1895 which is the same year Jack was born. But doesn’t give a month or exact date of each event. Plus I see as the whole line of “we all had her” as antagonistic rather than fact because 1) Arthur not Hosea would have slept with her because Arthur had his heart broken with Mary and then after the whole Eliza thing, doesn’t want to bring another child in the world. 2) Dutch wanted to seem like a father figure to the gang and sleeping with Abigail might ruin that. 3) it could cause problems in the gang if Abigail really did sleep with all of the men as it could cause some in fighting.
Seems like the implication of a woman sleeping with multiple men is a very classic insult engineered towards a prostitute or former prostitute. I never met one, but looking at it realisticly, how many men do most prostitutes even sleep with?
She was actually introduced to the gang as a prostitute by uncle, so she wasn't a part of the gang until she fell for John and wanted to stay with them because she wanted to stay with john, maybe she slept with everyone when she was still a prostitute and not a gang member. Another thing would be that she wasn't a gang member until she and the gang found out that she's pregnant with one of the gang members. While the story was still in 1899, I always thought Jack was Arthur's kid as they both had blonde hair, but in epilogue and rdr1, jack had black hair. Adult Jack is a doubtful thing

Arthur was in a relationship with Abigail before she fell for John, he said in his journal that maybe he should’ve married her while he had the chance. She was a prostitute that uncle introduced to the gang and slept with Javier, Bill and a couple of the other members too.
John is the father the real reason Jack looks like that when he’s older it’s because he’s representing the people who raised him. The coat and boots is Arthur the shirt and pants and hat being John along with this satchel, gun belt is similar to Arthur and John,, Mustache is a mix of Dutch and Javier, the scarf he’s wearing is also a nod to Dutch, the hair style is a mix of Arthur and John. So in a way he looked up to those people AS his dads and moms but obviously it’s John’s kid. But when he grows up around people like Arthur, Hosea etc he starts to look up to them as father figures. In the end he avenged everyone.

We have seen long haired Arthur and his hair grows completely different than 1914 Jack or John (Hence why epilogue John looks so off with Arthur's copy pasted haircuts)

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who the father really is; Jack will always see John as his father.
For me Jack is more look like Arthur than Javier. In RDR 1 rockstar hasn’t such deep plans to make us doubt, that’s why I think that there are no point to compare old Jack model. But in RDR 2 they made his hair color just like Arthur’s. While John hair were more alike in RDR 1, but in RDR 2 they made it pure black to make us doubt more.
Also Arthur mentioned in journal that he should Mary Abigail too, before she fell in love to Marston.
If that’s true, she could manipulate John with a Jack to make him be with her

RDR 2 kinda ruined the RDR1 narrative. For example if Javier says "Did Abigail miss me?" in RDR1 it doesn't make much sense because they(Javier and Abigail) were friends in RDR2.

It is Dutch Van der Lind's child. The reason he passed on the treasure was to ensure it went to Jack. The most most pissed I have seen Dutch was the Killing of the Man who had Jack. Abigail I think never liked Dutch....She also had his key to the chest. He left John for dead several times....even in prison. Also when John faces Dutch in his final moments Dutch does not intend harm on John at all. Dutch could not bring himself to kill John whenever he pointed a gun at him. When I see the grown up Jack I see Dutch's nose and squinty eyes..He is the sum of the Gang what was all led by Dutch and Redemption was given by his Son. The biggest give away is they both love to read and aspire to be something bigger than what they are.

I believe that Jack is John’s son, but I think in a way the idea is that it doesn’t really matter. What matters is John loves him and cares for him, and so it’s also examining our concepts of fatherhood as well.
I thought that Arthur was Jack's father, that's why he despised John for leaving and not being a father & husband to the woman he wanted a life with when he couldn't. But, if that were true, John would have just left and not tried to become the father & husband he became later.

John is definitely Jack's father. Sure some gang members slept with Abigail, but it only makes sense that John is the father. If you line up the possibile timelines to when Jack was born and when Javier joined the gang, you'll notice that Abigail was already pregnant for a few months or already had Jack when Javier joined. When Dutch says 'we all had her' to John he was just taunting him. Sure he slept with Abigail but he's also had love interests like Anabelle and Molly over the years so there's no knowing about the exact time when he had no love interest and was sleeping with Abigail. Also if you look at the photo of the gang in the end credits at Pearson's shop you can see baby jack in Abigail's arms. The only men in that photo are Arthur, John, Dutch, Bill and Hosea. So there's no one left in that group of people who bears resemblance to adult Jack at all except John Marston. I agree with strange man that John is the father in all ways and the random teases like the Arthur antagonise to Jack are just there for fan theories and don't actually have any weight to them

I believe Jack is John's son and that the doubt is a reflection of his character. John has that douchey, unmotivated dad vibe in RDR2. Always avoiding his parenting responsibilities, thinking that Abigail is 'nagging' him for wanting a decent life for their son. He would likely use the excuse of 'how do I even know it's mine? Why spend all these years raising a kid that don't even belong to me?'.
Then of course, it shows his development. He never seems to get over that awkwardness of being a father and having these fatherly interactions, but he is honest with this and his son recognizes it. Their life was never perfect but Jack loved them to the bitter end, so even if he wasn't, I'd say that it wouldn't matter.

Never put much thought into who Jack's father was... Arthur looked after him, but, in the end, John was with him. I never looked much passed that.
I think what gets looked over a lot, is that Abigail was his mother, and she gave every part of her being over to her son. I guess, it really never mattered who his real father may have been, Abigail was always his one constant.

I believe John is Jacks father and I think the reason this has been bought into question is purely because John himself does not feel he is father material or at least does not think himself and his way of life is what makes a good father.
I personally felt if anyone not John it'd be Arthur, early on it always seemed like Abigail would seek out Arthur for someone to talk to and want him to be around Jack when John was not.

I think during the conversation of John with Dutch, John said "if he's mine" maybe because he feared he might lose Jack because Jack was raised with a gang of criminals and his life could be put in danger any time. So, my opinion is John is Jack's father.
Like most, I agree that John is Jack's real father. If you compare the Young John to Adult Jack, mixed with Abigail's more rounded features, he looks like a mix of them. I do believe Rockstar put a lot of dialogue in to make players wonder if it were true, because in reality, back in that time there was no way to get a definitive answer. One's word is even more shacky when it comes to their particular lifestyle.
First time I played the game (without knowing the story of RDR1), I saw Jack's blond hair and thought he was Arthur's biological son.

Arthur told that John left the camp when jack was just a baby around 1 year. Maybe he got to know the real reason and left. But whether he is biological father or not Marrying Abigail and trying to be a good father makes John the best man in the whole Gang..
I never understood why this was even a question. The side by side picture of Javier and Jack is all the proof anybody should require, assuming they have a pair of eyes affixed to their skull. Better yet, a side-by-side of Jack and John. Javier does not possess the large nose and broad jawline that Jack does - a feature shared by John. Jack also possesses John's strong brow and narrow eyes, features Javier lacks.
And, of course, the cheekbones are nearly 1-to-1 copies of John's. Javier has far less pronounced cheekbones than either of the aforementioned.
The resemblance is far from striking. As far as shared traits, the best I can see, when actually bothering to take a second glance, is the facial hair, but even then, Jack's facial hair is a lot thicker than Javier's. The only reason why they look remotely similar is simply due to Jack's age of 19; his facial hair has yet to fully come in, but you can see his beard getting started in the picture provided in the video.

While adult Jack might look like Javier, if you merge Abigail's face with John's face to see what their kids might look like... the result would probably look like Javier. The design process may go like this: create John's face, create Abigail's face, merge John and Abigail's faces to create Javier's face, tweak Javier's face to create Jack's face. Jack and Javier now look like brothers, so you can suggest that Javier is Jack's father, but in the "in game" world, Javier has no relation to either Jack, John or Abigail.
The design process almost certainly did not go like that.

The second game got Johns hair color wrong. His hair is meant to be dark brown, not black. Jacks hair is light brown in the second game since hair darkens as you age
Arthur is Jacks father, little Jack looks just like Arthur and in the Journal Arthur writes about how he wishes Abigail was still with him. Arthur also curses the relationship with he has with Mary and blames it as the reason he is not with Abigail. He is also Jealous of the relationship John has with Abigail and that jealousy is apparent in the way Arthur treats John in chapter 2.

Strange Man and everyone - This is off topic, but I guess talking about John and RDR 1 have me thinking on RDR 1 the game as a whole. Why are we able to harvest horse meat on RDR 1, but on RDR 2 we cannot? I know in many cultures, just like beef and during these times, horse meat is view as the same. It was a major meat that I harvest on RDR 1, but on RDR 2 they completely took that way.
Jack sort of inherits John's moodiness. Maybe by nurture more than nature, but I've seen real life examples contrary to the idea it's all nurture. Jack is way too different from Dutch, Javier, Bill, or even Abigail. He's John, basically.

I don’t remember where or who I heard this from but during chapter 5. (The saint denis) they talk about how they got jack from a gang they raided. Hosea said. “When we saw him, we couldn’t leave him there. We took him and John became his father.” Or something along the lines of that. Maybe I have a faulty memory, but I remember those lines.
Jack's father is john because in 1899 john and abigal didn't get married so they get jack and then in 1907 they get married both so if a man and women didn't get married that does not mean that they can't get a child.
