Ben; Thank you for mentioning gay & lesbian couples, and how they're in similar situations. I was wondering, how do you manage to stay so collected and understanding? 😊 -Ken
Well thank you very much! I'm honestly not great at being understanding all the time, but I try to remember that God lives in everyone, and every person is so valuable, and everyone deserves to be listened to and shown some understanding even if it's someone I disagree with. :)
Here's my theory. I think that when the initial controversy broke out a bunch of people went and looked up baby It's cold outside original where they saw the song performed in the movie. Neptune's daughter and honestly if that was all I had to go on I could see how some would get the impression that the song is about date rape because the lady in the beginning does not look like she wants to be there and it really does come off as the man not taking no for an answer multiple times now. That could just be the the body language and signals. We're lost in translation over 60 years after the fact, but hey I'm just a guy who's thinking about this in September for some reason and was wondering what someone else thought Oh yeah. Also, I think folks in liberal parts of the country like myself may have missed the subtext because the song is set in a conservative environment so the conflict is obvious to more conservative people but it goes over the heads of more progressive folk because the environment is so different from what we would expect
I completely agree. I am a liberal myself but I think people have become so reactionary that it's hard to keep a cool head sometimes, but I agree with your assessment about the demographics. We tend to see what we are expecting to see. I'm glad to see someone else thinking about this!
No means no, he tries to wear her down. He tries to guilt her telling her "what's the sense in hurting my pride." She tells me him he is pushy and he states that he's "opportunistic." Last line, that took a lot of convincing. So once again a woman can't say no and be listened to, the man has to badger her until he gets his way.
