I know this comment will likely get a lot of hate, but now that I understand the meaning of the lyrics in English, I can't help but think of Jesus of Nazareth. Listening to the beautifully haunting song (and even looking at the man who played Aragorn), I can't help but draw parallels between how God came out of eternity and came to this broken and chaotic world... becoming a man and choosing to take up his residence in it forever with all his adopted heirs (in this case people who by God's grace and their personal choice choose to follow Jesus), one day to reign after He has definitively defeated evil. I know that if the creators of this song were not Tolkein himself (sadly I haven't read the books), they likely weren't thinking of Christ, but I'm rather certain that the deeply Catholic Tolkein might have intended some rough parallels between the fictional Aragorn and the historical Lord Jesus. Not meant to start an Internet debate (all though one could present intellectual arguments for why Christianity is likely true), just a guy mesmerized by the beauty of this song and the parallels he finds with mysterious God's great love for our broken world.
