Most comments zero in on the piece rather than the interpreter. Markov is simply the best. I can imagine Paganini play this way - virtuosic, lots of flare and passion but also unique nuances that make it not sound like a careful practice but a song of this very difficult piece.
I remember as a student hearing Alexander play these live with one intermission. He doesn’t just play them like showpieces, he plays them like the Italian operas of the time that inspired many of Paganini’s works. I had never before heard them played in such a musically compelling way. Bravissimo!
@@nickcarper9933 Yes, l can imagine the passion and sparks in a live performance by Markov. You were lucky! His style is uniquely free. His playing gives much inspiration to me and my son, who is preparing this Caprice for a competition.
@@chinchin3130 You can talk intonation with about any other caprice. Btw I didn't say it wasn't hard. Because every caprice in their own right is difficult I would say. And you don't need to question my musical education simply because I don't believe it is the hardest caprice.
@@chinchin3130 Ok. I don't find any key difficult but that's just me since all it determines is how to play a couple of notes. And if we want to talk shifting well 5 got that but much faster with a flashy yet surprisingly difficult bowing. Oh and your precious intonation is also required on 5.

**At 5:20 some one was about to clap...she looks like an Alexander Markov Groupy.** I have never heard better playing of Paganini's 24 Caprices before. I know it varies from person to person but for me he's 'd' best!
Good interpretation of the piece, better than shlomo mintz at times, worse at others. Midori has the best, in my opinion. I lost the cd of midori's 24 caprices (all 24, very good), definitely worth tracking down again. If you want to hear the best interpretation of Paganini on violin I suggest you all do the same. She is amazing. It's not on youtube, if any of you know where to find it, please let me know. Great post, thank you.
I followed the link to hear Midori's Caprice #4 and wouldn't elevate hers to be the best. To me as a violinist, Markov's playing makes me imagine how Paganini would play it -- a lot of flare and truly free rendition of the music, in other words - doesn't sound like a practice. Midori's version at times sound like a practice (hear the the double stops after the intro).
Why is this about comparing his performance against some of the other top virtuosos to see who is the "best?" Isn't it possible to simply admire and appreciate it for what it is rather than judging against your memories of other performances? To me, this attitude towards his playing is incredibly arrogant. Unless of course you are a violinist who can play these pieces as well as he can.
Call me an ignorant but you can clearly hear the influence behind a ton of heavy metal musicians centuries later. This and the rest of Paganini's Caprices.
i feeel like the audience needs to decide if they clap in between all the caprices or at the end of the performance. also big oof before the dc. al fine during the 20 caprice, the clapped. but this is and amazing performance nonetheless. and ti's much more important that they even had an opportunity like this, and it might be the first time some of these people go to a live concert. Edit: I've actually recently learned that the "no clapping in the middle of the piexe" is a new thing. I myself would love to clap if a virtuous nails a hard passage
