      Thanks for this tutorial Chuck! The only problem I am encountering is that everytime I go Idle on one of my router, it freeze all the time. Any thoughts on this? I am using IOS XR. That's the only working GNS3 IOS image I got.

      Hi. After a month of evaluation this is the major issue
      a) It is very unstable for advanced switching like etherchannel, spanning tree, etc.
      b) According to the official gns3 documentation VM will be slow and may not work when using Qemu. So, no good for advanced switching features. See docs.gns3.com/1c2Iyiczy6efnv-TS_4Hc7p11gn03-ytz9ukgwFfckDk/

    The cost for an Azure hosted server with the Standard D4s v3 size, which includes 4 vCPUs and 16 GiB of memory, starts at approximately $140.16 per month1. This price can vary based on your region and any additional services or configurations you might need.

      +1 on that - thelantamer, shipintbrief and the ithitman all done posts on doing this - thelantamers video is about getting EVE-NG in Azure. The other two in GCP. But worth noting the UKSM kernel feature (in the EVE-NG customer kernel) only works in GCP. Using the EVE-NG custom kernel in azure will cause your vm to be unbootable!

    Super interesting. Now this has me thinking of somehow locally deploying this on my home lab servers. Looks like simple powershell so maybe a look at the source code on github will allow me to tweak it or run smoothly off of a Windows Server VM (which will deploy to a Ubuntu Server VM inside it as seen here). Who knows maybe it’ll blow up in my face! :D

    • @NetworkChuck
      @NetworkChuck  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is Azure powershell, which requires the azure module and is only pertinent to Azure. That being said, you have a couple of options for on-perm, either use the GNS VM image, you just deploy this in HyperV, or you setup at Ubuntu server and run the bash script to install GNS3

      Looks like one of those siphon or vacuum coffee brewers. His seems a little unwieldy having to lift the entire stand to completely drain the vessel, but it does look very steampunk-y, doesn't it? Needs more copper and exposed gears, obvs.

      It's called a siphon coffee brewer, Hario makes one for ~$70. Not as good as other brewing devices, and you have you refill the butane torch and cleaning is annoying, but it is a lot fun to make and cool to look at.

    Hello NetworkChuck I have a question what would be the minimum recommend VM to run GNS3 without any issues. The one you recommend is
    Standard D4s v3 which is £128.65 month estimated cost I know that I will not utilize this but can I go with B2s or B2ms I am looking for the cheapest option for my wallet that will actually allow me to do its job.

    Chuck, great job! Noticed I ran into some issues with consoling into the routers. How did you get around that? I could telnet into them manually with the Azure public DNS and port, but it doesnt seem to pass that down to the console connection opener if we open it from the GNS3 client.

    I was due to build a new gaming PC since my old one was about 4-5 years old. I just built a Ryzen based system with 64GB's of RAM. RAM prices are dropping again and Ryzens have a lot of cores. Bought a copy of VMWare workstation Pro v15 ($250). Installed GNS3 VM locally and bam.. done. And I can game and everything else on it. Just spent some extra money up front and I'm good for years to come.

    • @chrisharper5801
      @chrisharper5801 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try upgrading your VM's Linux distro to 18.04 then from the VM re-run "curl raw.githubusercontent.com/GNS3/gns3-server/master/scripts/remote-install.sh > gns3-remote-install.sh" then "sudo bash gns3-remote-install.sh --with-iou --with-i386-repository" from what I found looks like there is an incompatibility with the python version that runs on ubuntu 16.04 with the gns3 server 2.2.xx you may even get away with updating the python version to >= 3.5.3 on 16.04 OS.

    Great stuff. I'd like to share some things that threw me. I like to use all caps sometimes in domain names. Don't, it's not allowed. Also, probably pretty obvious the username can't be "admin". Last thing that got me, GNS3 controller version mismatch. I updated GNS3 and it was all good. Here's another thing I noticed, if you're migrating from a local vm to this or adding to that setup, the steps at the end are slightly different. Here's a question, security? How do you force authentication?

    I also set up Apache Guacamole on the azure VM so I can connect to the GNS3 server from Linux desktop, via web browser (from anywhere on any device) where i installed the GNS3 application too.
    Any thoughts on this ? :)

    Not working for me, I was able to create the server in Azure but when trying to use GNS3 from my laptop it sends some request to the server but it says that my firewall is blocking it, I turned off my firewall but get the same issue. I can login to the server through putty.

    Hi Guys, if you don't know how to format the text for your location, type *Get-AzureRmLocation | format-table* in the terminal. Then use the text from the Location column in the script.
