I see a dermatologist every six months as I have a regular problem with basal cell skin cancer. My dermatologist is a MD and also has a PhD in microbiology, his advice is to wear sunscreen. I do prefer mineral sunscreen, love DRMTLGY tinted sunscreen.

Hey Kimberly I just stumbled across you now. Actually we have a lot in common. I'm 63 and I've only now decided to look after my skin properly. I thought I was the only woman with these neglectful ways! So 3 weeks ago I started on collagen peptides and began buying a few skin care products. I'm so happy I've found you. I'm fascinated by skin care now. And I've started to see a little improvement already. Thank you so much.

I've been using sunscreen daily since adding tretinoin to my routine. Prior to this, I NEVER used it unless I was planning a day at the beach. I have to admit my skin has improved significantly with the combination. Your skin looks great, so who am I to judge 😉 For me, I'll stick with the suncreen.

Great video. Im 69 and have looked after my skin since i was 14 and I followed my mums advice all those years ago not to use soap on my face and always use a moisturizer...only Ponds Cold Cream back in those days. I have advanced my skincare as the years have gone by and love the serums and great skincare routines. I try and use drugstore products and find great results. Im on the borderline with sunscreen and use Eucerin mineral sunscreen on my face as Retinal is part of my nighttime routine but don't use it anywhere else. Im like you I cover up most of the time. Im in the UK and some products recommended are not available here. Love your channel.

I completely agree with you on the sunscreen issue, eating seed oils is like turning your body into a giant french fry. The sun is so important for us. Cancer comes in when you don't get your vitamin D3. This time last year, I burned if I didn't cover up, this year, I've been working in my yard a lot and not once have I burned.

I like the way you framed this, with brightening, firming and nourishing. Thanks for devoting thought to those of us with sensitive, reactive skin. I love the IUNIK brand too.
My sensitive skin has reacted to formulations of ascorbic acid, retinol and niacinamide at different times in my skincare journey of the past 2 decades. I just wanted to reinforce to my fellow sensitives that no matter how good an ingredient is for the skin, particularly for anti-aging, if it irritates our skin it is making our skin worse over time. Irritation is one of the great aging factors. It is hard when you hear people talk about these wonderful products and effect on their skin.
Here are some things that I’ve learned over the years, thru my sensitive skin.
Ascorbic acid has some solid research behind it for brightening/reducing hyperpigmentation, as an antioxidant, and potentially helping build collagen. The c-derivatives, like THD or ascorbyl glucoside, have less solid research but are more stable and probably less irritating. I like how Kimberly highlighted the brightening. If you find vitamin c irritating maybe look for a serum for hyperpigmentation with a combination of ingredients, like alpha arbutin, Kojic acid, tranexamic acid, licorice etc
Retinoids (retinol, retinaldehyde and retinoid acid) are probably the best researched of all skincare ingredients and help the skin on multiple levels. As you move up in % and from retinol to retinal/retinaldehyde to prescription they become increasing potent and irritating. There’s pretty good evidence that even lower strength retinols can make a difference over time. If the only thing you tolerate is a .3% retinol 3x/wk, just stick with it. Many “drugstore”retinols are .2-.3%. If a brand doesn’t tell you the %, I assume it is that or lower. Start slow and low. Our skin can become accustomized to retinols but won’t if we use to high a percentage to often. Start with a low percentage maybe 1-2x/wk. The retinoid “cousins” like Granactive retinol don’t have as much research but again seem to be more stable and less potentially irritating. Retinoids have the best research for collagen building but there is some that glycolic acid may also help build collagen and polyhydroxy acids may help minimize collagen loss. Glycolic acid can be too much for some sensitive skin but PHAs are exfoliants recommended for sensitive skin and might be worth looking into for exfoliation and collagen protection especially if you don’t tolerate retinol.
Niacinamide is another great multi-benefit ingredient. Most of the research showing those benefits has been at 2-5%. I find the serums at 10% irritating, but everyone will be different. Don’t feel you are missing out with a lower percentage if you also find 10% to high. There are a lot of toners, serums and moisturizers that have 2-5% niacinamide (B3) so you may not need a dedicated Niacinamide serum (that are usually 10%). You might want to find one with a mix of ingredients with 5% niacinamide or lower. If you want to reduce products just use one of the many moisturizers w niacinamide, like ceravepm. It can be used am and pm.
From the comments, I sense SPF is controversial in this community but I just want to share my experience as someone who does want the protection but has sensitive skin. I have never been able to tolerate any of the sunscreens with organic/chemical sunscreen filters from the US. They are old filters, smell bad and give me irritated skin and headaches. I do tolerate the mineral/physical filters but they can feel heavy or drying to me, I’ve had to kiss a lot of frogs to find sunscreen I can deal with. Just this year, I finally tried the Korean sunscreens that so many TH-cam channels tout. It is a totally different experience than sunscreens with filters developed in the 70s and 80s and really does feel more like putting on a light unscented moisturizer, no headaches and no irritation with their chemical filters. Many are very reasonable priced as well. I’m using one from Beauty of Joseon now, I’m going to try iUNIK next. Although they can’t be sold in the USA since they aren’t FDA approved, they can be ordered and sent here. I used yesstyle.com, there are many other sights.
Wow, I started this and just kept going. I hope someone with sensitive skin either finds it validating and helpful on their skincare journey

    Hi Kimberly👋❤
...just checking in. Liked this, but havent actually watched yet - yet I know it's good👍
Other than the a.m. vitamin C, the Retin-A (if you've mentioned it) - I'm doing something vastly different, as far as a.m./p.m. serums.
That said, Ive followed your skin routines long enough to know you are definitely on the right track. (Except, perhaps your take on SPF.) Yah, some are bad news - that doesnt mean all SPF is bad news. I have to say I dont agree - at all - with Ion's 'extremist' (imo) founder.

I wanted to mention that I watch a lady who’s 98 year old mother (and her) use beef tallow on their skin and it’s amazing how youthful they look! I’ve considered trying out the tallow but I need to find one that’s super purified so it doesn’t smell “game-y”. Thanks for sharing easy peasy skin care routines. 💙

Try fractionated coconut oil - it’s way less sticky! Also, The VanMan Company’s Tallow and Honey Balm is lovely and no gamey aroma!

Beef tallow. Haha...just remember to give any dogs you might come across a very wide berth - with this stuff slathered on your skin😅
I agree about trying to use cocoonut oil as a skin moisturizer. Skincare scientists generally agree it not beneficial to the skin.
Plus, it looks like a greasy mess on the skin - not at all attractive, imo😒

Thanks for that heads-up on Van Man's tallow & honey balm. I'll have to try it...where to buy, though?🤔

@@barbarafairbanks4578 😂 you should look up the benefits of tallow on the skin though. Lots of vitamins and antioxidants.

For me Clinique's Take the Day off is the best makeup remover I'ver ever used. I've tried many others but nothing for me works as good. I also love they have a travel size. That Beta Gluten Moisturizing cream is fabulous a little goes a long way it's amazing. I have so many products which are all from the different products you mentioned, I need to just stick to one to see what works best instead of using one product for A, another for B & C. One thing I miss is for awhile you have only done once a week videos on Sunday. Miss your mid week videos.

This is such great info for beginners. There is so much out there it’s overwhelming. I’ve actually now trying to scale back what I use and using up what I have before buying anything else. Have you done any research on Defenage
