I’m new to bag making and getting overwhelmed with all the material and hardware needs. This is Very helpful! Now I’m on to my research for understanding what threads to use! Hopefully you have a video for that too 😂
Singer branded needles only for bag making - it's the only brand my 1955 Singer 301A likes! For my embroidery machine I've been using Klasse' mostly & sometimes Schmetz. Thank you for the video! Very helpful & great detailed info!
HOWDY, I can't answer your question as im just a beginner bit I had to tell you.. THANK YOU FOR THER BRAKE DOWN!!! OMGRACIOUS SARA, it's vital info and as always So Very Grateful! I pray your enjoying your hiatus add much as possible and that your breaking through those barriers your so strong and smart to tackle. Many 🤗 X's & blessings❣
I’ve always sewed with Schmetz needs but I recently purchased a Singer Heavy Duty sewing machine, so now I used Singer needles and that’s only because I didn’t know it I could used Schmetz needles on my new Singer machine. Thank you for this helpful info Sara and Danny! 💚
Glad your taking some time to put you and your family first. Mental health is incredibly important. That said Danny. You should totally do a live stream of you making the bag and us the viewers can answer your questions a guide you on your quest.
Mom told me to buy Schmetz. She is a quilter. So that is what I bought. Lol Thank you for this breakdown. It helped me a lot, as I'm completely new to sewing.
Thank you Sara for your time and explanations, I was using the 100/16 for my vinyl fabric in the Schmetz, but realize now I should have been using the 90/14.
Thank you for this video. It has cleared up some things for me. I use Schmtz needles the most as they are the most common and readily available to most people. I have in the past used Janome as I have a Janome sewing machine and they give samples with machines. I have also used Superior brand needles I really do like these but they do come with a higher price tag. (yes Superior as in the thread company) thanks again!
Thank you for this tutorial Sara, I usually use Schmetz needles but I have used local chinese needles bought in China (beeing a flight attendant buying worldwide !) and must say that they are great too !
Love all the info thank you, I know this is an old video not sure if you'll even see this ha. I do have a question. So, I am about to sew couple tote bags and I'm using duck canvas and cotton fabrics together. I was wondering what needle did you end up using for that project that you mentioned you were working with (duck canvas/quilted cotton? Thanks again for all the great information. :) also, TIA
This is a really helpful tutorial. Is there a printable of the graphic you put up on the screen that we could download and print for reference? Thanks in advance. Hope all is well!
I use Schmitz brand needles most the time. This really helped me understand sizes. Thank you so much. Will definitely be saving this one to refer to in the future. Love your videos and other social media platforms!!
Hi Sara, I use a Brother SE 600 machine with Schmetz 75/10 because I didn't know any better. LOL Just ordered the correct needle sizes. Thanks Mz Sara.
I primarily use Schmetz or Klassé needles. Only use Singer needles in Singer machines. They are a tiny bit longer and can cause problems in other brand machines.
Thank you for this video....very helpful. I usually buy Schmetz, however, I do have a stash of Organ needles in my cart on Ebay, I just might get those too 😉
I use Schmetz. Thanks for the info, I recently made my first vinyl purchase and wouldn't have thought of my needle. Do you switch needles during a project if you lining is cotton but you exterior is vinyl or leather?
This is a very interesting and informative video. Just one question: what needle would you use if using cork fabric in a bag? The needles I normally buy are made by SCHMETZ or Singer. Both are ideal for quilting and dressmaking. 😊
SCHMETZ, organ and a German brand, forgot the name. It also depends on which machine I’m using. Juki industrial or babylock Elissimo. Good to see your smiling face.😊
I use Inspira and Schmetz. I got a new machine and it doesn't like the schmetz needles except for topstitch and larger microtex. The needle threader likes a bigger eye, like Inspira. I did use another frequently mentioned brand for embroidery, they were gold? titanium? Or something. I couldn't use it for embroidery, my thread kept breaking and it wouldn't stitch more than 5 or 10 stitches, sometimes the needle even broke.
My sewing machine mechanic told me to use Schmetz Leather needles in my Janome My Excel 18w as I sew through a lot of layers making the very popular Clutch Wallet (from another supplier). After seeing this video I'm wondering if I should be using Jean needles instead.
Sara - What a wonderful surprise. Do you have the chart somewhere on your website to print or save the information? I use Universal, Floriani/Schmetz, Schmetz and Grotz-Beckert -size appropriate for the project. I have not been sewing long enough to have favorites yet.
Schmetz is my favorite! Recently I have also noticed a brand called 'Klasse', I did purchase a couple of packs, have not yet tried them. Are you familiar with them? Thanks Sarah!
I know this is an older video, but hope I can get an answer anyways. So if you are sewing with two layers of quilting cotton that has both foam and fusible interfacing, would you still use microtex/universal or switch to jeans? My machine is struggling with making bags when I'm nearing the end.
I've never needed to switch from a 90/14 but if your machine is struggling, have you tried a 100/16? Plus you could cut the foam out of the seam allowance which would eliminate bulk there.
@@bronwyncarr6714 Thanks for your answer. Haven't tried 100/16 yet because that's my jeans needle (which I just bought). And difficult to find fusible foam interfacing where I live so I use sew-in which unfortunatly means its difficult to keep it out of the seam allowance without stitches showing. So you would use a universal 100/16 needle instead of a 100/16 jeans needle?
Speedbully 84 if your jeans is that size I’d give it a go. A microtex needle is sharper from my understanding. You could also try increasing your stitch length - I usually do with a lot of layers.
I have a Janome and used to buy only Janome needles. Now I buy Organ or Schmitz, our Janome dealer closed shop. I think someone is in that shop but not sure what they have to offer.

Great to see you on screen again Sara. Missing your shows and hope the break is helping and that you are feeling better. I completely get it xxx
Previously used only Singer but in the last 20 yrs . ,find my self using Schmetz most of the time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!
Thank you Sara for your time and explanations, I was using the 100/16 for my vinyl fabric in the Schmetz, but realize now I should have been using the 90/14.

Hi Sara! I use Schmetz on my Janome and Brother machines and Organ on my commercial. So good to see you!!
I have a Viking and recommended brand is Inspira and also Superior. Nice to see you!
Thank you for this tutorial Sara, I usually use Schmetz needles but I have used local chinese needles bought in China (beeing a flight attendant buying worldwide !) and must say that they are great too !
So happy to see you again, Sara!

Thank you, this is the best explanation I've seen on needles! I usually buy Schmetz needles and apparently have been using the wrong size.
Inspiron and Schmitz are my favorites. Thanks, Sara! So nice to see you!
This is a really helpful tutorial. Is there a printable of the graphic you put up on the screen that we could download and print for reference? Thanks in advance. Hope all is well!
Schmetz and Brother needles are what I use for my Brother machine. Glad to see you as always, and thank you for another great, informative video.
Great seeing you! I mainly use Schmetz, however Amazon had a really great deal on a huge pack of organ needles so I use them every once in a while.
tHE MEASUREMENT AROUND A NEEDLE IS THE CIRCUMFERENCE. THE MEASUREMENT FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER THROUGH THE CENTER IS THE DIAMETER.. GOOD VIDEO.
I usually buy Schmetz, Microtex, and Organ needles. 80/12, 90/14, and 100/16. Thanks Sara
I use Schmetz. I had no idea Organ was a brand, I thought it was for some type of specialty machine--LOL! Thanks for the clear explanation.
Great video, I have been having trouble with my stitches and think you shed light on my problem. I use Schmetz needles. Good to see you. Take care
So glad to see you girlie. I use Schmetz and Organ.
I use Schmitz brand needles most the time. This really helped me understand sizes. Thank you so much. Will definitely be saving this one to refer to in the future. Love your videos and other social media platforms!!
Schmetz and Organ for sewing and machine embroidery are my choices. They are always dependable and consistent quality.
Very useful- l have been using Schmetz since they seem to be the most accessible here.
Thank you for this overview! This is so very helpful.
Schmetz or Organ are my choices in needles. Thanks for the tutorial on needles, I can forget and confuse the numbers...
What about when you are joining/sewing the lining (lightweight material) to the outside (heavyweight material). Which size needle do you use then?
So happy to see you Sara. Just the information i needed. Thanks.
Hi Sara, I use a Brother SE 600 machine with Schmetz 75/10 because I didn't know any better. LOL Just ordered the correct needle sizes. Thanks Mz Sara.
Hi Sara, Glad to see you.
Based on the background, think this might have been from a previous Sunday show.
I use Schmitz needles. I never heard of Organ, but will be looking for them.
Hi Sara ~~ great to see you again! I usually buy Klasse needles and sometimes Schmetz if the Klasse size I need isn't available.
Hi Sara,
I use Schmetz sewing needles. You look rested. Take care
I primarily use Schmetz or Klassé needles. Only use Singer needles in Singer machines. They are a tiny bit longer and can cause problems in other brand machines.
Hi Sara. Glad to see you. I use Schmetz universal 90/14
Thank you for this tutorial on needles. I use Organ and Schmetz.
Hi Sara🌺, Thank you for sharing this information. I generally purchase Schmetz needles and Superior Topstitch needles. 🌸😊💗!!!🤠
Schmetsz and Microtex because of your suggestions.
Great info Sara! So glad to see you!
I use Inspira brand, as it’s recommended for my Pfaff machines and easily available at my LQS.
I've been using Organ needles for years and sometimes I buy Inspira needles from my local shop. I would use Schmetz if needed.
Thank you for this video....very helpful. I usually buy Schmetz, however, I do have a stash of Organ needles in my cart on Ebay, I just might get those too 😉
I love your videos they are so helpful, I have been using Klasse needles, I really like them and I also use Schmetz.

Schmetz needles. Thanks for the info today!

Mostly Schmetz. Learned about Organ needles from you!
I usually sew with Schmetz or Organ 75/11Quilting needles for piecing and bump up to a 90/14 for quilting
Schmetz is what was recommended when I purchased my Baby Lock machine.
Sara - What a wonderful surprise. Do you have the chart somewhere on your website to print or save the information? I use Universal, Floriani/Schmetz, Schmetz and Grotz-Beckert -size appropriate for the project. I have not been sewing long enough to have favorites yet.
I have both singer and schmetz needles. I do tend to use the denim needle for everything lol, I got tired of my needle always breaking!
Good to see you. Thank you for the great information, 💕
I buy Inspiration, Groz-Beckert, or Organ needles. Groz-Beckert are my favorite
I usually use Klasse needles but I also use Organ, Schmetz, and Inspira needles.
Usually use Schmitz but love Organ needles
So helpful! Thank you.
Hi! What type of needle would you use for the cork fabric?
Thank you
16-18 size for denim and 10- 11-12 for quilting, cotton fabrics, chiffon etc. 14 for heavy weight but not denim. I use organ and schmetz.
the leather needle, since it slices, does it not cut the fabric when sewing with it?
Sew how do you choose the needle for a bag project that you would use different material to construct it (ie vinyl and quilt cotton)
Schmetz is my favorite! Recently I have also noticed a brand called 'Klasse', I did purchase a couple of packs, have not yet tried them. Are you familiar with them? Thanks Sarah!
I usually buy Schmetz needles

I generally purchase Schmetz needles.
What do you use for CORK? TY
Love superior!!
What needle would you use for fleece.... Shmetz and organ
I haven't heard Sara say anything other than 90/14 so I'm assuming she would use that for fleece too.
I have a Janome and used to buy only Janome needles. Now I buy Organ or Schmitz, our Janome dealer closed shop. I think someone is in that shop but not sure what they have to offer.
I usually buy singer since I have a singer machine
I have both Organ & Schmitz.
I purchase Schmitz, organ, Superior gros beck.
What type of needle do you use when you see cork
Thank you for the information!!
I use Schmetz needles.
schmetz for me but I recently started using Inspire
Schmetz needles for everything.
Is there a printable of the graphic
Schmetz or Organ needles. 80/12 topstitch for quilt piecing. 90/14 topstitch for bag sewing.
Schmetz and Organ needles are what I use ..
I almost always buy Schmetz needles.
Usually organ or schmetz
I use Schmetz or Klasse’
Just to correct.... The distance around a needle is circumference not diameter.
Superior or Organ
