  • In this episode of The Bagmaker's Workroom we are going to talk about the appropriate needles and threads to use for bag making on both industrial and domestic sewing machines. We will look at actual sewn examples and compare them to see which suits our needs. There are many retailers that sell needles and threads, the link below is to my favorite.

Chris, I loved this series of Bagmaker’s Workroom… As a pretty new bag maker, you have helped to sort out threads, needles and stabilizers and interfacings! Thank you so much for your wonderful videos! What brand of bonded nylon do you use?

Thank you for watching Lucy! I am glad you are enjoying the series and getting some good information from it. I use Amann thread from Sunny Sewing Machines. Here is a link for it. sunny-sewing-machines.myshopify.com/

Thank you for these videos! I have found that the black thread stitch never looks as clean as other colors, it doesn’t matter the thread or needle size. I don’t know why that is, I’ve tested black with different needle sizes and thread sizes compared with other colors and they just look bad for some reason.

just order a bunch of Schmetz and Organ needles for my Juki to 2020 pe to make sample with a thread 70 # 69. I wonder how you know when to change pressure foot tension.

Barbara, If you find that the fabric will slip when the presser foot is down, you need to increase the pressure on the presser foot. If the fabric is held so tightly that the feed dog is unable to move the fabric, decrease the amount of pressure on the presser foot. My suggestion is that if you feel it is too tight or loose, play with it a little and see if it changes the result. It is hard for me to do that sort of thing because it takes time away from sewing. But if it produces a better result, it is worth the time!
