I recently upgraded and bought two new Babylock (domestic) machines - no one told me the serger needs an Ha x 1 SP /CR needle - and what is that anyway?! Until I saw this video! Thanks! Super thanks! From a seamstress of 45 years - I have sewn personal wardrobe, gifts, costuming for ballet, clogging and cheerleading teams , bridal gowns and now quilting - thank you! I wish I had tried to decode needles years ago! 😉 👍 Very helpful video!
My question(s) is, How would a person know what size/type of needle to use for unusual items? I watched one of your videos using nylon rope and you used a leather needle size 18. If I didn't watch your video, how would I know that? What type of needle would you use for 1/4" clothesline rope? What if the clothesline rope has a poly core? How do we figure these out with the non standard sewing objects? I tried sewing 1/4" clothesline rope with a jeans needle and my machine laughed at me (lol). It's so frustrating spending money on stuff that just isn't working.
Although this video was very informative. I’m still a tad bit confused. I have a Juki TL-18 and on the front it say “Only use HLX5 or HA1X Needle” it did come with organ needles. I went to my craft store and had a heck of time finding a new needle. Are all schemez HLX5? I understand the type of needles for knits, jeans etc and I understand the sizing but get thrown off by the HLX5/HA1X jazz
By asking that question on Google you can find your answer. Never be afraid to Google search. www.diamondneedle.com/flat-shank-domestic-needles/hlx5-for-quilting-heavy-duty-sewing#1
I would suggest contacting an industrial sewing machine supplier and speak with their customer service department. You can Google to find one. Thank you for watching.
The Brother needles do have information stamped on them, but most people will need a magnifying glass to read it. I'm nearsighted and thus could juuuust make out the size info.

❤Thank you, I printed this out years ago, moved, rearranged my sewing room and lost it. Thanks for sharing this information!
Thank you for this video. EVERYONE has issues with "needle info", and that also means those of us who do commercial sewing. Thank you again.
thanks Christopher, great information
Good video, I've got so many different needles from different companies, this helped. Thank you
Thank you 💐

I have a Pfaff 919 D300AA Industrial sewing machine and I'm struggling to get the correct needles. Can you please assist me.

I watched the SCHMETZ representative do a presentation and top stitch and metallic are the same needle. It’s about marketing.
Be sure to compare the point tips of each type of needle. Photos show them on each brand website.
I still can’t wrap my head around needles
They're not secret.
