Thank you. I love Kapsberger's music and first learned of him through my music history prof Dr. James Stroud while working on my masters in guitar performance in 2002. I need to get the score to that first piece.
I’ve learned Canario from your DADGAD Classics book. I love it! Now i wish you would have included a version of Capona as well! You are such a master. Your playing sparks joy & inspires me.
Many thanks, S/V. There were many more pieces I would have liked to include. Capona is a wonderful piece. Glad you like it, and thanks for the nice comments.
What?!? Awesome!!! How cool is that?! I need a little help on technique I believe and some fun sections like 6th “section” of Canario. I’m finding challenging to get smooth. I will inquire further! Thanks!
@@RobMacKillop1 Would be interested indeed. I love the lute and theorbo’s sound. I’d find the re-entrant tuning a bit confusing though (but could overcome as teacher sometimes recommends re entrant fingering on early pieces especially for ease of play). I play with nails though (sorry!)and I hear this instrument is more sympathetic to that style However learning flesh playing on lute i could do easily as i have weak nails so have play classical guitar with acrylics to get a nice full tone. I might hire a lute in new year after covid and have a go! Theorbos look a bit of a handful though. How do you reach to tune those open bass strings?
@@mattbod You have to have the instrument standing facing you to tune it. Not something you can do quickly from a playing position. Hiring a lute from the Lute Society is a good idea, but they do take six months or more to get used, so you must be patient. I wrote a book called Introduction To The Lute For Lute and Guitar Players (Mel Bay) which should help you a lot. Cheers.
@@RobMacKillop1 Will check that book out for sure. Would love to make the step. Sadly I am a “nails” player (boo hiss) on classical so don’t know if that would hinder me?
@@mattbod Not at all. Some lute players play with nails, Julian Bream for one. I heard an amateur player play lute with nails two months ago, and it was brilliant. You could also consider the baroque guitar, which was sometimes played with nails. Great repertoire there, and easier to handle than a theorbo. Take the plunge!
I'm not sure. The theorbo and guitar player, Jamie Akers, published a book of transcriptions for guitar of Kapsberger's music. Maybe it is in there. Google it.
Great to hear Colasione on a Theorbo. The piece sounds like it was written within the last decade!
Yes, it does! 😎
Beautiful music beautifully played. The Capona is hypnotically beautiful!
Cheers, Peter. It was fun to play.
Greetings from hospital, Its a plesure to listen the music.cheers Rob
Good luck, Humphrey!

My pleasure. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure his music is available in facsimile online somewhere.
Beautiful music !!

Bravoo !!!!
Wow, so beautiful!
That sounds lovely Rob so much resonance and sustain on that thing. Would love to try one!
They're great to play, Matt, and have a good repertoire.

❤❤❤❤❤
Sounds like it's going to be a great recital. :)
Oh, a bit of work to do before then...
Absolutely beautiful! ❤️ Canario is my favourite after pachelbel's canon
It’s fun to play, certainly. Glad you like it, Affan.
The three great Cs :D. Can this be played on guitar, and if so, why can't i find it anywhere on youtube?
Jossy, see my latest videos on my channel. I play them on a guitar - but it's a ten-string.
Lovely!
Cheers, Andre!
LoVe That Song
Good to know, Oliver.
It's SO APPEALING HONESTLY I LOVE IT ..... Really Nicely Played
I have to say it again: this is incredible music! Is there a version of the Capona for guitar?

Superb
Cheers, Stuart. Glad you like it.
Nice!
The Colascione was practically Rock before Rock was actually a thing.
I'd love to find the music sheet for it
For sale from SPES - very inexpensive editions.
Lovely :)
If Bert Jansch lived in the 17th century, he'd sound like this!
You are right. Old music is not so different after all.
Just heard the first of these pieces played by David Rogers at a symposium, posted Dec. 1st on TH-cam. Perhaps you are studying with him.
No, never heard of him. It's a well-known piece to theorbo players.
Well, I can see why. Marvelous
Lovely stuff, need to find you an Oud to mess around with ;-)
Oh, been there, done that. I even studied it in Istanbul and Morocco. But that was before TH-cam existed, and I no longer have one. Cheers. Rob
