  • A quick look at my most recent active speaker purchase! Made from the same PLYWOOD box and polyurea coating as the top of the line DZR series, the DHR series is a more affordable yet ultra professional looking active speaker line, that simply oozes quality and looks ultra professional in spite of its very affordable price. Excellent for both installs or live sound / DJ work, these boxes perform well, sound excellent and are a perfect replacement for my 10 year old DXR8s as my active tops of choice over my pair of DXS12 MKII tops.

    Thanks for the video! I ordered two DHR15! Waiting for them. But man, yes wood makes a difference in my book. And the more you use it the better it sounds. Music gives life back to wood. I'm very picky with my sound, will be connecting those to my Behringer x32 to amplify my flamenco guitar using the DPA 4099 and my vocal with the Sennheiser MD441, and use the Bose L1 Compact as a monitor. Thanks again for this video! Also, awesome job with your weight loss! Cheers brother

      Thank you so much for the kind comments! The DHR15s should rock very well and sound nice and full too. The DHR are simly GREAT looking and sounding boxes. The 7 year waranty is a testament to their build quality as well. Lete me know how they perform!

      @@alpoulin1 just received mine today! Oh man I'm blown away! They sound fantastic!!! Full and musical when amplifying my flamenco guitar. They're also very "quiet" no hiss or self noise! I'm very happy with mine. Really love them.

    So now they have the Dhr12 upright version, and A DHR monitor version ! I’m very curious about the new DHR12 i have not seen Yamaha introduce these or speak on their vision for these

      Yamaha has seemed very quiet in the last few years. I'm still waiting for the DZR to be available in Canada... I think there are certain parts availibility issues for certain products ever since Covid, unfortunately.

      Promotion means more order but less parts means less fulfilled orders/ more back orders 😮‍💨🤷🏽‍♂️ ..really curious to get a real comparison and purpose behind this line versus what they already have out in this price Range (DXRmkii)

    Hi Al! I really enjoy your speaker reviews! Im torn between which new speaker pair to get.
    its between Yamaha DHR 10 or the New EV ZLX 8P G2.
    (I have had Yamaha DXR8s years ago when they came out, so temping to try and stretch my budget and get eh mkII DXR8s.)
    Does the wood of the DHR10 really sound better, warmer then plastic?
    Do you still love the Yamaha DHR10s? Happy with them?
    Can you shed any light on my Dilemma? lol

    • @alpoulin1

      I still have my DHR10s and yes the wood box does extend the low frequency a little (compared to DXR8/10) so they do sound a little warmer (and the frequency response specs confirm the extended LF). What are your typical applications? I currently have some Presonus Air 12s on order, so stay tuned for that review. I've got mostly Yamaha in my collection, so it should be interesting :) Still curious and waiting for the DZRs to become available. Feels like they've been on back order forever... The DZR10s seem like they would be great over my DXS12 MKII subs and for my old folks gigs as well. I've been using either DHR10s or RCF Art 310As for these. They both do very well, with the RCFs actually having a little more output capability over the DHRs.

    Will the DHR12 be good enough for disco, karaoke in pubs without a sub? I don’t wish to carry around subs as well. Want a minimal setup with a small lights rig and a foldable booth.

      @alpoulin1  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would go for the DHR15s if you're not planning on subs. The DHR12s might work OK in smaller places and for karaoke as well, but you may be a little dissapointed in the deeper low frequency response if you're playing more modern music and in a bigger place. Having them in Contour mode does make them a little fatter though. The wooden box does slightly improve low frequencies as well. The look of this series is spectacular considering the low price.

    Hello sir looking speakers for church if u can tell me Yamaha DXR MKii vs QSC k12.2. Which is better in yr opinion. Thanks.

    • @alpoulin1
      @alpoulin1  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Both are very viable, reliable, flexible and high output solutions. Is this for mostly spoken word and/or music reproduction / band/choir use? How big is the church?

      Combination of vocal and qoir, no band tho. Thanks for getting back to me. Real issue with Yamaha no place has one to test. I’m leaning towards QSC. Other question I have should I turn the mixer on first before i turning on the speaker ?

    • @alpoulin1
      @alpoulin1  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@thomas9469 Always turn the mixer on FIRST (before the speakers) and turn it off LAST. The power on and off can often send a loud thump to speakers... Both Yamaha and QSC offer great products, so you can't go wrong. I do slighly prefer the overall sound of the Yamaha, but more so at higher volumes, where the QSCs tend to get harsh. In your application though, I don't think you'll be pushing them to their limits ;) Al

    Hey Al how's it going!
    This is slightly more expensive than a Yorkville YXL15p.
    I saw your video on the YXL15P. Great vid!
    Would you say that the DHR10 has better output and vocal clarity than the YXL15p for FOH? Would you say its similar in those areas?
    (Bass response of these speakers is not really important to me.. I have 18" subs)

    • @alpoulin1
      @alpoulin1  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The DHR10 will be more open in the mids and sweeter in the highs, but the low frequencies that come out of the YXL15Ps are spectacular - making it an awesome full range box that gets loud AF. The YXL15Ps are "party boxes" on a budget that can rock most smaller weddings with no subs needed. The DHR10 is more refined overall and more at home over subs, of course, except for smaller events with an older crowd (for example:) Sorry for the delay in my response, I just realized I had to apporove them before they were posted...

    How close is the sound to the Yamaha dxr8s?

    • @alpoulin1
      @alpoulin1  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Simply a little fuller when used full range. Hi-passed, they would likely be VERY close sound wise, with the DXR8 having slightly more output, since it has double the available power overall. They both use the same compression driver (Celestion CDX1445 - which is found in other sweet sounding speakers, such as Yorkville NX55Ps).
