George, I've just watched this whole interview and the two of you have kind of blown my mind. Without going into my entire life story, you've just managed to summarize all the thoughts I've been pondering for the past thirty years. I've been a student of Anthropology, Eastern Philosophy, (my combined uni degree) and the Climate Crisis all that time. I now live in rural Canada and don't have many folks around me who are anywhere nearly as obsessed with these ideas as I am. But today, after a big snow storm yesterday, I can sit in my little snowed in house, with the sun shining in, and be reassured that all the thoughts and perspectives I've been processing and pondering all these decades were absolutely not for naught. Everything has all just come together. Lent truly IS an Integrator. I'm ordering his book from our local independent (small town) bookstore (and recommending they order at least several copies). I am so excited to get my hands on one. Thank you so much for this. Not just for introducing us to Lent's work, but also for your own personal passion on these topics. So much gratitude to you both.

You see how connected we are? I, too, am sitting in a little snowed in house in rural Canada after a big snow storm yesterday, so happy to know something that I've known for ages...that everything is interconnected and representative of expanding life/consciousness. If we could all realize this interconnectedness, we would live life with so much more joy, ease and wisdom that when we exploit our environment, we are exploiting ourselves. Separateness is an illusion, but I suppose we took the journey of separateness for the experience. I believe we are always in a process because we are part of the grander process. This was my first time hearing Lent and I am so happy and grateful that I clicked on this video. All the best :-)

Wow! I am a deep lover of Nature. I have just been pondering about evolution. About how each species did the best they could to survive with their environment and I feel their whole being and existence and so called evolution is because they strived for it across generations in keeping with the ways of Nature, of the Universe. An eagle started developing incredible vision across miles because their whole being willed them in that direction ( trying to say it in my limited way, using language)

What began as a likeable young man discovering Daoism quickly degenerated into disingenuous claims and attempts to lure the naïve into paying for highly
questionable martial arts vacations. Was this your intention all along?

Great interview. Thank you as always. Emergence Science is also a system science. Jeremy mentioned fractals and fungi which are systems. I have always loved the concept of entropy and the conservation of energy/matter as was mentioned. I am learning about the Tao and Gaia consciousness. All these system sciences resonate with me. Thanks again, George.

Thank you George and thank you Jeremy Lent. There is always something to learn. I haven’t heard of Yu-wei as apposed to Wu-wei before. I enjoyed the discussion on animate/conceptual consciousness or intelligence, and the reductionist and systems thinking part. The meditation segment had a clear revealing of I (Yu-wei) and myself (Wu-wei) too. What a wonder it is to be living and breathing and sharing. In the spirit of sharing, here's a poem I was struggling with but finished thanks to thinking in terms of Wu-wei. Have a good day George!
Nothing to do and nowhere to be
I watched the dust go tumbling
    against the waves of light
as if the air was smuggling
a haze of gold in flight
The gold fell down then rose again
    inside this hidden tide
it filled the space once more and then
    it left nothing behind
I watched the dust go stumbling
    between the room and I
the time of day went crumbling
    into a gentle sigh
For something that was always there
    it took me by surprise
it quieted the world, I swear
    it pacified my mind
I watched the dust go tumbling
    until the time had come
to join once more the rumbling
    to beat my steady drum

George, I would encourage you to translate the Dao De Jing yourself. All the tools to do so are available. This way, you will know what is actually included and not included in those 81 poems.
I translated it in 2009 over 18 months or so. I used the 6 available ancient manuscripts (300 BCE to 500 CE,) the MDBG Chinese-English online dictionary, the Zhongwen and Onkellotus websites. These tools, accompanied by introspection, will allow you to realize your Dao De Jing translation.
The Dao De Jing is within. Hence, looking within is what guides the translation.

Given your worldview and your resonance with Lent, I highly recommend you look up the work of Iain McGilchrist as well! His book "The Matter With Things" is the deepest and most profound exploration of these topics I have encountered, at another level even than Lent. I hope you check it out, and many thanks for the work you're doing.

I had to go and do some research on neo-confucianism which steps back into a different time in China with belief systems and existing traditions that looked at the role of woman and men as very specific and the women to obey their father and their husbands etc in accordance with their philosophy and didnt play out well for women even if they came from elite families. • @1436am

Spontaneity includes disfunction and conflict. What is agents nature ? Everything is natural we can't escape nature because its what we are. Every aspect of existence is natural. Our ego tells us we are wrong to destroy. Will the sun think its wrong when it swells and destroys all life on earth one day?

Yes, what you've said is the same as what I've heard from neurologists, about the workings of the brain which needs tools, words, sounds of languages, and in turn, different words, sounds, and languages also capable of changing brain functions. And, I think human cognitive and intellectual capacities which we humans are proud of. We take pride in our escalating civilizations and advanced sophisticated technologies. However, everything brought about by man contains duality. Darkness and light are embodied in one another. We take pride in our intellectual capacity, in our civilizations, and in our advanced machines. However, simultaneously, in the intellectual capacity, there is an instinctual urge of selfishness, and in civilization the uncivilized darkness. Darkness with Light, Yin with Yang is of the eternity. I agree with you that the true higher consciousness transcends the duality. Nice to watch and listen to your presentation.

That's interesting. Yu wei (don't know how it's spelled) is a part of nature: think of the beaver building damns, think of the ants exploiting other species, think of the predators that chase other animals and change their migration paths. Humans are predators - we are programmed to think in terms of goals/catching prey aka purpose of action.
I know that for animals it's more instinctual. But what if the utilization of our conceptual consciousness is instinctual as well?
I totally agree, that integration of wu wei and yu wei (still don't know how to spell it) is the key. Not for us humans to dissociate in to our conceptual consciousness but to integrate it with our bodies and instinctual consciousness...

Oikos the root of eco in economics means both house, household and family. Its all about relationshop Like the beaver being his nest being his family being what he does in his nest. Its all about relation en connectivenes but we pulled it apart and made seperated meanings and so relationships. Oikonomics would be complexity studies. Just giving a bit of energy to your studies. Looking it like that you are started with one of the triad and moved on to the rest
