When they are young like that they can turn on you quick, surprise you!...My Brother always said (says), that age (2-3 yrs), where they (Duke and Earl) are at now, you really have to be careful and on your guard, and I know Jim knows that.. They are coming along nicely.
I have had horrible arthritis in my wrists for a lot of years. I kept avoiding surgery as I use my hands for carpentry and outside work daily. Couldn’t sleep well for the constant pain. About a year ago I started using hemp extract (cbd) and have been thrilled with the results. Pain levels have dropped from a 8-9 level to a 1-2 level. It really helps with the inflammation. Of course it will not remove the arthritis but certainly has helped me live with it.
Liked Abby's grand entrance!!! Looks like you will have to keep an eye on Earl when he's tied up. I think he will learn to untie the rope. Great job trimming Lady's mane Abby!!! Kittens are coming!!! James will have to make a sign for the cat and kittens.
I had a horse who could untie the rope. I tried several different knots but finally went with snaps on both ends of the rope. Hooked them both under the halter. I guess she thought I was spending too long at church.
Nice first time job on roaching Lady's mane! It's great to see you step in and help out when needed. I wouldn't mind seeing video about the cats, especially barn cats. They have an important job to do on the farm as well.
Thank you , Jim but I don't have any horses . I just love watching your videos and wish all horse owner s good luck on winning . Please choose another person that could use the gift . Thank you , Ron .
Ok firstly, love Abby’s entrance! The new thing is possibly new reflective halters? Yes I LOVE cats! I am trying to keep an eye out for the new harness set. Also, thanks for trying the CBD oil, my Max has some arthritis as well so I’ll try it too. He lifts his back left hoof...also, best of luck to the people looking for harnesses!!! Many blessings to you Jim and family for doing this! Wow you’re going to make someone’s day ❤️❤️❤️
Lovely video! Abby did a great job roaching Lady's mane. Nice new halters, but I didn't notice it until you announced it. :-) Earl is an so calm -- you must have done something right, Jim (along with his natural disposition). Your giveaway is such a kind-hearted idea, and I'm looking forward to seeing the videos and/or letters and voting. How nice that you would include your subscribers, so that all could participate in some way, if they want to. And last but not least, yes, I do care about the cat! I like all, well almost all, animals. :-)
Oooh, how I love Lady. She seems so gentle. Abby did a great haircut! Duke and Earl will look like big boys when they're all decked out with their harnesses on!!! Yes Abby, I am a big cat lover. I've had a cat all my life. I currently have 3 cats that are such sweet babies!! As for your pregnant kitty, when you are able to see the kittens moving around in her belly, she's about a week or less away from birthing! On a side note, be sure to get mama cat spayed within six weeks because after birthing, cats automatically go into heat and will have back-to-back pregnancies...ask me how I know!😘! That's what happened to the only cat I never got spayed right away. I was unaware female cats went back into heat right after having a litter of kittens until the vet told me. So please spay and/or neuter kitty cats. Kittens should be spayed or neutered around 6 months old.
I think spaying is pushed too hard. What if she is a good mouser and would pass it on to her kittens?. On a farm you wouldn't want to get rid of a cat like that!
Good evening Jim and Abbey, well done Abbey you made a good job of Lady's main, think that may be your job now 😊 Jim you must be so incredibly proud of Earl, he's got very kind eyes.l remember very well when you went to have a look at then befor you bought them both,my goodness how time goes so quickly. And you have SNOW unbelievable for this time of year,we never had one snowflake.Mothet cat will very soon have her baby's maybe tonight! I think 3 🤗 sweet girl she is.All the very best dear friends 🌱🌱🌱💕Be interesting to see if the medication works on our beautiful Buck,l truly hope so.
Love all the barn activities! Lady and Earl are so beautiful! And Yes, I care about the barn cats! Lol! - our property came with 5 feral youngsters that were untouchable. We had to trap them to get them fixed and 4 were females! Please make sure you are able to handle all the kittens so they don't go wild! I can't imagine how many cats we'd have now with 4 females! The mother cat is now fixed and comes inside but would disappear when she had her kittens. It's a cycle that can be very difficult to stop!
I’m a cat lover. I’ve taken in strays all my life, they have lived me for it. I love all animals and believe they should be cared for and treated well. I be love your horses and the wonderful joke you’ve given them. Keep up the good work.
Sorry, Abby, I'm a dog person. My daughter got a rescue "black-mouth cur". Love the dog. The cat I *barely* tolerate. Lovin' the videos. Thanks for all you (both) do!
Dear Working Cats with Jim...😂 Cats have their place (in the barn). I tolerate them, but I do have a soft spot for mother's to be and kittens. I knew you'd get lots of "cat lover" comments, so I had to throw my two cents in. I noticed the new halters right off, but I was specifically looking at the barn itself, for something different. Good video!
Love the new harness they all have ...Abby there are a few hairs on Lady's chinie chin chin that needs a trim ..a bit like me ..its an age thing lol stay safe and well everyone. Best wishes from the North Norfolk coast UK 🇬🇧
@@susanbrown2909 OK Susan but they eat horse manure and spread disease to the other animals and humans is they poop in the hay or get in your house. You must be a city girl who does not understand how important rodent control is around a farm.
I am curious why one would shave the mane of th horse off. Do they not get cold in the winter? My Friesian has a long mane and I give it a bit of a trim for a tightier look, but I can't imagine roaching his mane.
Hi Jim. Just wanted to comment on Buck's putting his foot out in front when standing. As a farrier I experienced that posture in horses many times and quite often it turned out to be Navicular disease of the Navicular bone in the hoof. A tendon(I think its the Flexor tendon) runs down the back of the lower leg bone and underneath the Navicular bone in the hoof (the bone acts acts as a "rocker" for the tendon) and attaches to the muscles and bones there that cause the hoof to move up and down. Navicular disease is when a sharp bone spur forms on the bottom of the Navicular bone and irritates the Tendon as it slides back and forth thus causing pain that over time gets worse and worse. When the horse extends the leg when standing it takes pressure off the area somewhat and pain is reduced. The progressive nature of Navicular disease cannot be stopped but corrective shoeing with wedge pads can help reduce pain considerably so that the horse can continue to be used for an unspecified time with little discomfort. You might want to have your vet take a look at Buck and I would think the vet would probably recommend an x-ray of the hoof to see if there is any calcification spurs there. As I said, if it is Navicular it will be progressive as far as I know. Might be better if it IS arthritis!
In addition to the above, if your vet finds that the problem is indeed Navicular, he/she could have a chat with your farrier Eli about how to do a corrective shoeing on Buck. A wedge pad that is thick in the rear and gets thinner towards the front will elevate the angle of the heel of the hoof so that the Flexor tendon is shortened resulting in less tension on it that will ease pain in the area. I have seen that treatment work well for years for many horses although it is not a permanent solution as I mentioned earlier. Eli may have done Navicular horses but keep in mind that all horses differ as to the breed, type of work they do, height and weight, etc. and shoeing needs to be done accordingly. It was my experience that Hunters and Jumpers are especially prone to Navicular because of the "shock and pressure" when landing on just one hoof and I wouldn't be surprised if Draft horses might be especially prone because of the vigorous conditions and footing they often work in.
great videos, they bring back fond memory, when you were unloading the colts both back feet slipped off the trailer this may be where the heel tendon bruise came from.

I absolutely love horses! Unfortunately I’ve never been in a position to own any myself. I’m going to ask a stupid question. Why do you cut the beautiful horse manes? I just found Abby’s/Abbie’s channel and I’m really enjoying her videos. That’s how I found your channel. I can’t wait to start watching your videos. God bless from Tennessee.
Unfortunately, I cannot have one of the kittens that will be born soon. We live in San Diego which is a long way from where you guys are !! Oh well, I'm sure you'll find good homes for them a lot closer !! Thanks for today's video which was once again very interesting !!
Good video guys. Jim when will you clip the colts main and why haven't you already done that? Im curious I know you have some good reason. Do not stress about all the work building up,You have to eat the apple one bite at a time.
I care about the cat and I've noticed the kitty is smitten with Jim 😹 Later in the video.... It almost looked like she was in the early stages of labor! They usually go in search of a hidden place, even if they've set up housekeeping in a spot you prepared for them. She's a barn cat so you won't have the trouble my family had when I was quite young: My mom kept her bedroom laundry hamper in her closet, which was pretty big for an old house, but it went back a ways under the stairs instead of being long along the wall. Our pregnant cat got herself into that closet somehow when she went into labor, and ruined all of Mom's clothes! Those stains don't wash out. This was despite us preparing a box for her. Every litter I've had since then has been the same. Even when I set up a box in a closet, there's only been one mama cat that used it. All the others found some extremely hidden spot on their own, and we wouldn't know where it was until we heard the little mews from the newborn kittens. It'll be interesting to see where Whitey decides to have her litter!
Nice video Jim Abby I think that cats are good to have around, is she producing milk? I noticed the halters but I didnt make a guess. Hope yous have a great day. Nice sunny here. See you then.
Hi Jim when will you start giving the colts a haircut I did not see the boys had new halter at first but the red look good on lady I think the black look good with the red halters also I don't have horses but I like watching you guy
LOL I thought you were going to use the CBD oil to rub on his leg, and my first thought was that bottle is way too small. I didn't know he was going to ingest it. Shows you how little I know about CBD oil! I care about the cat. Can't wait to see the new kitties!
My guess is the new,................................ I'm trying to hide my guess lol it's not working! Harnesses! Or collars anyway. Editing after the end of the video. Ok I totally missed it. It's funny because I did kind of notice the halters, but for some reason it didn't really register in my brain 😆 I guess I'd never noticed that the collars are so red inside, and that's what caught my eye. I had in mind the new harnesses that Eli is making, so my mind went in that direction. Ah well, I enjoyed this video as always 💕🐎 And best wishes to all who submit an entry for the giveaway contest!
Okay so first off, another great video. Number two oh, I am also a dog lover. But a dog doesn't catch a mouse. Then my real question Jim is oh, and I never thought about this before. What would I expect to pay for a horse harness setup. New versus old. Just a ballpark figure, just curious.
Buck’s arthritis-hope the CDB works for him. I have found Legend IV injections worked well for my arthritic horses in the past. Feed-through supplements, not as much. Your vet can give you more info on that.
Great video. As usual. Enjoyed it very much. I've been watching your channel for a few months now and find it very informative. When Lady was getting a haircut, I didn't even realize until today that Lady doesn't have a mane. I just assumed that her hair was on the opposite side of where the camera angle was. I know very little about horses but love the big draft horses. Could someone please help me understand why some horses don't have a mane. Thank you .
I care about the cat, I smile every time I see her.😀
My 20 year old Quarter horse mare would freak out if I threw that harness on her. I sure admire the calm personalities of Duke and Earl.

All the others found some extremely hidden spot on their own, and we wouldn't know where it was until we heard the little mews from the newborn kittens. It'll be interesting to see where Whitey decides to have her litter!
Definately agree with jim haha, couldn`t care less about the cat. It`s nice Abby and Brenda like it though
Nice video Jim Abby I think that cats are good to have around, is she producing milk? I noticed the halters but I didnt make a guess. Hope yous have a great day. Nice sunny here. See you then.

LOL I thought you were going to use the CBD oil to rub on his leg, and my first thought was that bottle is way too small. I didn't know he was going to ingest it. Shows you how little I know about CBD oil!
I care about the cat. Can't wait to see the new kitties!
your coats look fantastic btw.
😀
Another wonderful vlog just makes mt day when your videos come out
Do cats need high vis halters / collars just to be alike?
The ceiling?
Why do the horses, at times, stand with back legs on the lower level?
No, new halters. They just do it for position change
Are the lights brighter. Great video 👍
new halters
Okay so first off, another great video. Number two oh, I am also a dog lover. But a dog doesn't catch a mouse. Then my real question Jim is oh, and I never thought about this before. What would I expect to pay for a horse harness setup. New versus old. Just a ballpark figure, just curious.
Hi Leo, new harnesses cost about $1000-3000 depending on the style and how fancy it is
Okay thank you Jim I had no idea what they are but I guess I have kind of always wondered about that
Buck’s arthritis-hope the CDB works for him.
I have found Legend IV injections worked well for my arthritic horses in the past. Feed-through supplements, not as much. Your vet can give you more info on that.
Jim and crew-Is this a comment of yours or a scammer??? Just seems like a weird response.
A scammer
@@WorkingHorsesWithJim I bet the word giveaway is what brought them to the video.

Thank you .
We clip them because it takes less time to care for than having a long mane but also, we just prefer the looks of the horses with clipped manes
Ah, I see. Thank you for the info.
