    Just wanted to comment with a bit of a trick I’ve learnt with green horses that are as backwards as miss whinnie! When they are slower and not keen to canter, going into two point position and just letting them bowl around the arena just stearing by turning your shoulders and leaving there mouth alone. I find this reprograms there mindset a bit and start to naturally move more forward. With almost all horses, it’s far easier to contain a pace that create more so introducing the forwardness as early as possible really helps the future training go a lot smoother. As I said, just commenting with what I have learnt, understand if anyone has different opinions. Love you ponies (and meg)❤❤

    She's looking like a very smart horse now, it's so exciting getting to really start with youngsters, especially as you're lucky enough to have bred her yourselves. Looking forward to more Whinnie content.

    Tail trimming to the mid cannon bone went out years ago. We do how ever pull manes the old way No to scissors.. Three finger width length for small even braids …

  • @vogelvrouw

    I always use thinning scissors to thin the mane and to soften the edges, it works super well

    You should probably look into a girth called the shoulder relief girth which gives horses and ponies more room to extend and stretch their legs without their muscles hitting and going over the girth which would end up there shoulders and armpit muscles being sore

      @kristin1980uk ปีที่แล้ว

      As she is only a baby, she does not even have her own saddle professionally fitted yet. Meg has access to whatever kit suits the individual pony, everyone if always different in her yard. But until she grows, which she will over winter, there is not much reason to, as she won’t be doing a-lot over winter.

    Learned this trick from the coach of the Special Olympics Equestrian team. As long as your horse does not have a thick mane (I have a Haflinger...doesn't work, also have a TB, works like a charm) if you are going to cut with scissors, comb over to the wrong side and wet down enough so it will stay. Cut the mane then comb it back to the right side. It will look natural, no bowl cut!

    I honestly can't stand cut manes. I understand it for a showing horse that gets plaited etc. but I will never understand why people do it on regular horses haha

    • @kristin1980uk
      @kristin1980uk ปีที่แล้ว

      Megs horses regularly compete, so plaiting is very regular, also the cut is just the first step, over next few weeks you rake them to thin further, keep brushing the mane daily and it looks less blunt and edges feather slightly. It’s just because it’s the first cut from so long and thick, which is always the case when you bring in a baby bog monster 😂

    • @Lilee177
      @Lilee177 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kristin1980uk Oh no, I totally understand why she does it! My boy doesn't compete and his previous owners cut his mane sooo short. I can't wait for it to grow out lol. I work with horses so I've done plenty of mane cutting, raking, pulling and plaiting.
