    Loved the fly tying kit! My father was an avid fly fisherman & had turned our basement (while I was growing up) into a fly tying haven. He had so much equipment & tied such beautiful flies. He has a memorial on the Deschutes River in Eastern, OR because he was so well known. I still have some of his flies in a few leather fly wallets he made (his other hobby). Anyway, seeing that kit brought back a lot of memories. Thank you!

      Very cool! Tying flies is a true art/skill, the fact he was known and memorialized for it is really very impressive. I conducted an estate sale once where we sold a huge fly shop and wow, did people get excited!

    I’m from Louisiana and for Mardi Gras chickens are chased by the horse riders to hopefully add to the gumbo pot later that evening. With the property owner’s permission of course. When my son was in kindergarten I asked him how his day went and he said it was GREAT! For PE his class got to chase chickens on the football field! It was of course Mardi Gras time and a cultural thing 😂I wondered to myself now how many other children across the country got to chase chickens in PE. Lol. So this child mannequin looking like he was going to grab that chicken brought back a great memory of my little boy who is now 32 😊♥️🐔💜💛💚⚜️

    Great to watch you in our mall! Thanks for purchasing my mysterious Earthwrap Candle Pillar! I was thinking it might have been a prototype piece, since I couldn't find a thing about it anywhere! I hope you make a bundle on it! The "crazy over Haeger Earthwrap" hasn't hit our area of the woods yet really, it's often passed over. Some Earthwrap sits for weeks for me. Glad you found it as intriguing as I did and I'm glad it went to you!

I did not realize that was your earth wrap candle pillar, it really is unusual and it hasn't sold yet but it's such a specific piece...I agree that it doesn't seem as hot in your neck of the woods, so I took it to Seattle. I'm excited to have gotten something so cool from you, thanks!

    I love railroad china (I have a small collection). I've been collecting lots of different items, mostly from western railroads (I'm a west coast girl). The Missouri Pacific plate is a service plate. I think the desk caddy might have been a menu holder.
    The cereal premiums are fun too. When I got married in 2006, we used some of the set I bought as table markers. We got married on the (now defunct) Shasta Sunset Railroad out of McCloud California. Such a fun day and getting married on the train then taking a ride, awesome!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right about the "desk caddy", they were indeed menu holders! I assumed pencils and pens went in the tubes, but apparently for ordering (or to place a nosegay). I really enjoy the Western railroads, my grandfather worked for the Rock Island and RIo Grande. I'm sorry to hear the Shasta Sunset runs no more but what a wonderful experience!

    Good evening, George! I'm having to play catch-up on this one...too much going on here.
    I have one of the enamel-topped tables with the drawer. Those have a very good look to them and don't take up much space, so it's no wonder they are popular. Those metal leaf tables, at 7:33, would be fantastic to use along with the old metal porch furniture. One on each side of the glider, and one next to a chair...great look! I really liked those. Loved the small Czech vase, at 8:33. That is my favourite colour combo for the Czech pottery vases, and I have four or five in that colour combination. I'd like to have the matching pair that size with the woodpeckers on them. I used to have an old scale like the one at 10:06, except on the one I had the tray was brass. I wish I still had it. If I remember correctly, I think I paid $40.00 for the one I had, and it had the weights with it, too. The weights were shaped differently than those, though. Loved the Dutch cookie molds. That seemed a really good price for them, too. Was that a table lighter or a match holder, at 15:52, with the girl figure and green top? That caught my attention. I liked the etched tin comb and brush holder. Do you ever come across any L & N Railroad china? I don't think I've ever seen any. Didn't that "silver fade" used to be called "mercury fade", or am I confused on that? I have a vase like the Bittersweet one on the left, at 24:18, that belonged to my grandmother. There were a lot of interesting items there! Thanks for the take-along!!!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm only now catching up with your catching up! Those little utility tables were perfect size then and now. I would have loved to take those leaf tables to use with my metal porch furniture in Florida! I do like that color combo in Czech vases (really any of them please me though). Scales are a favorite of mine, I haven't had one in awhile! I think the deco girl was a lighter when you took off the green top. I find L&N items a lot in Kentucky, but almost never see the dinnerware! I'm really glad you had fun, I really enjoy shopping with Jocelyn and Dagny

    Hi George, it's not about being "triggered." The types of items you are talking about evoke slavery, racism, murder, oppression. I can't imagine being Black, minding my own business scrolling eBay or browsing a flea market and being confronted with such real horror (that should honestly "trigger" every single human being on Earth). Worse being sold by white folks who think it's cute or interesting in some way. I would encourage you to take the hint from eBay and discontinue dealing with such items.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My customers for these items are almost all black people, and they feel differently. That is the reason I continue to sell them. They inform me that it is important to them to have them because they want their children to understand how all of those horrible things really were real, in a world where a lot of well-meaning white folks want to erase that history out of embarrassment, and some not-so-well meaning white folks tell them they should "just get over it" and pretend it doesn't have lasting effects today.
      I personally am much happier when I find items that were made for black people in times of old, because it's nice to see how they viewed themselves, rather than the stereotypes that were put upon them by white culture...but alas, they are scarcer than the stereotypical ones.
      I do agree with you that anyone who really understands the intent behind them should be bothered and affected by them...but that is again why I feel it is so important they be preserved!
