Ever since I was young boy I shunned holidays. The keeping of them never made sense to me and it all seemed so strange. I think the last birthday I celebrated was when I was maybe 12, Halloween I stopped around the same, I never practiced saint Patrick's day, valentine's day, etc. I even stopped keeping Christmas and Easter as a teenager. I'm now 38 and I've been free from the keeping of any specially celebrated days my whole adult life. The only time it has ever become an issue is when someone tells me "Merry Christmas" or "Happy New Year" etc. I never want to say it back, so I just say thanks. I don't judge people who keep special days, its just that I've never seen a rational reason for doing so. To me, each day is the same besides the weather. ----------- I love these letters and your reading is top notch! If I were a man prone to jealousy and envy I'd certainly be envious of your gift of reading aloud. There are many great books I've read that have no audio version which I'd love to do but I don't think I'm fit for the task. My voice is not the best for it and I know I would stumble too often. I can read aloud well enough, but not good enough for a recorded reading. Plus being a perfectionist I think I'd find it difficult to finish since I would have to stop and rerecord so often due to mistakes. Looking forward to the rest of this series. So much insight and wisdom is contained in these letters. I've only had a few minor disagreements with some of his opinions but overall I'd say I'm about 98% in agreement with what I'm hearing.
Thanks for all your detailed comments (I always read them even if I don't always reply). I'm similar with holidays especially my birthday. But bonding with people over such things can be useful so, as Seneca suggests, I try not to be a humbug about it, taking part when necessary. I've felt my reading improve as I've worked my way through these, and there will be more, I'm leaving my full time job in a couple of weeks and that should free up a fair bit of time! Do you have any specific books you'd like recorded? (Ideally copyright free and not overly long)
