Baldurs gate 3 is a true game that we as a gaming community want more of. Not all this cash grabs and paying for skins or simply one colour on halo💀 Though if it comes down to additional content and map add ons to BG3 I’d gladly put money into it cause it’s actually worth what you pay

In Skyrim, you're trying to stop a dragon god from ending the world. In Fallout 4 you're trying to find the man who murdered your spouse and took your son. In Starfield you're trying to assemble a 3d jigsaw puzzle.

Nah, all Todd Fallout about searching for family members and all those games are literal trash. Convoluted design, same as Starfield, town of slavers, town of children, town of children again, another town of slavers, town of 4 group of slavers in DLC. Only one time Bethesda somehow managed to get Fallout right is a Far Harbor.
You can't tell me Fallout 3 or 4 are good games.

@@ArteriusSaren I think if you use a scale of Bad/Okay/Good, a lot of games that are not great will still qualify as good. Fallout 4 might be one of them even if the depth in story and dialogue is not great, the impact of choices are almost non-existent and that the settlement building was at best in beta at release. Fallout 3 would fall shorter for sure. It's an Okay game. Skyrim would definitely be a good game but still a far stretch from a really great game that gets 9/10. In the end, the mods are the reason those game get where they should belong.

@@poppi3362 has nothing to do with multiplayer. It's a turn based game from the same creators as Divinity's Original Sin (1 and 2). It's a single player game but it can be played in co-op up to 4 players as a full party; if you play solo you get to add 3 other NPC companions to your party.
Game is really good because, just like Divinity's Original Sin 2, you can do ANYTHING you want, the engine makes everything in the game interactable and attackable, meaning you can be creative with how you deal with enemies (you can pick up a box, fill it with water, drop it on top of an enemy, this soaks the ground and his clothing, then you can cast a lightening based spell onto the water in the ground and the enemy is eletrecuted).
Don't know where you picked up the "edgy characters", they're all well written, albeit funny and not too serious.

I think the thing I like the most about BG 3 is that dungeons lead to a unique item. Not just a generic weapon that does 5% more damage, but items that actually open up to more ways to play the game.
Case example I was exploring the abandoned village in act one and got to a basement that belonged to a dude that was experimenting with neceomancy, on that same area I found a scroll that allowed me to summon a little demon, this scroll was the same as the spell available to warlocks so I thought it was no diferent than the normal spell. But after I made Gale learn it and cast it, to my surprise the little fella is fully voice acted and actually talked to me about how his boring master made him fetch bodies for his experiments but now he is happy he doesn't has to follow his orders. He also talks about the book he was studying and that he believed I could actually finish the research his master couldn't.
After getting to the end of the basement I found the book Fork (I changed the little bastard name) told me about, a key was needed to open the book, after searching the room I found a note of the apprentice of the mage who said he hide the key down the well. I go then to the well and oh boy is another entire new area full of giant spiders and a boss fight.
It takes me a lot of effort but I manage to achieve victory and get the key along some other unique item. Now I can unlock the book and gain access to a new questline related to it that I don't want to spoil.
All of this just because I was looting some junk in an abandoned house. Had I just beelined straight to the next main point of interest I would had missed all of this.

That necromancy book also gives your character either a permanent (not fully sure) debuff, or a permanent (very sure) buff depending on how far you get reading it, without failing a roll.
Another example is something during the main story. Won't spoil, but depending on your actions, and which character you use to interact with it, will either give you a massive passive buff, or a short-term debuff. The chances of naturally stumbling upon the route of actions needed to take to get that buff, would be very slim. You pretty much need to know it exists, to find out it exists. There's not even a message saying "you got x buff, now your Y ability is a bonus action, instead of a normal action".

Honestly, BG3 has taken me back to the fun I had with games like Dragon Age Origins and Oblivion and Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I really haven't felt like I've had this kind of RPG fun since those games. I loved Cyberpunk and Skyrim and quite a few other games but BG3 has truly taken me back to a game where almost everything is possible. I can completely say that Starfield, while I will likely enjoy it, will NOT have the same kind of enjoyment and freedom. Fallout 4 was fun but really requires mods for me to truly immerse myself. I expect Starfield will be the same. But I'm sure complaining will do nothing. I'm sure I'll see plenty of cosplay at the next convention I go to and I'm sure every "nerd" is going to praise it as if God gave us this game, even though it's just okay.
I hate settling for "just okay" when we know great games are possible.
And I especially hate "just okay" games getting such recognition that Starfield will probably legitimately be voted "GOTY" even thought it's just okay.
Just okay is the modern GOTY. We are stuck in that hellscape of a gaming world.

Friggin joke to call this game a sandbox with so many BASIC mechanics like more carry weight, starship targeting, starship building, weapon, outpost, and other craftings locked behind HOURS and HOURS of grinding.
And you call it a sandbox? What a joke. In fallout you can use VATS right off the bat, you can craft most things as soon as you find the materials for them, you can build outposts right away, if you found a power armor you could use it and craft it right away, and skill points were instead spent on actual combat or other meaningful perks, not basic mechanics. And yea the weight system in fallout was stuck behind grinding also but it still was a way better system then what starfield has with the running out of oxygen and making you stand still for 30s crap. A way worse version of fallout in space is what Starfield is.

I dont play turn based games, but im loving BG3 because calling it turn based seems simplistic due to the fact that you're not glued to the spot like most turn based games. Yes. Each character takes a turn but you can position each character how you want. Send your archers and spell casters into the rafters so they can rain death down on those below. Teleport a healer out of the way, ensuring your companions can be revived easily. Have your fighter/ barbarian aggro the enemies so the rest can make some seriously cool tactical decisions without interference. Between spells, skills and magical gear and unrestricted movement around the environment, i just feel calling it turn based just doesnt sum it up.

It's interesting how we define RPG games when they have linear stories and when gems like Baldur's Gate 3 come out that doesn't really invent anything it just gives the player the freedom to face the story how he likes even going to the extreme of allowing you to choose or not choose any companion, suddenly we realize that the previous games were not good in the RPG aspect.
That is to say, the pillars of an RPG game for me are a defined and immersive world, an interesting and interactive story with consequences and character development with how you want to build your own character or how others react to you. These are not unattainable goals, the problem is that it takes time to make it and with an industry that favors the massive production of low-quality video games to maximize income, they will obviously tell you that it is impossible.
Also, it doesn't even have to be a massive open world, who cares that you can climb every mountain on the map if the vast majority have nothing, or forests or caves or houses with nothing, most players in these games just V line for the quests anyways after discovering nothing.

in Bg3 I always felt like I had control over the situations I was going into, my character wasn't centerstage demigod so it made sense that everyone didn't know you but there were plenty of examples where you were recognized for your deeds whether they were good or bad.

    • @Th1sUsernameIsNotTaken
      @Th1sUsernameIsNotTaken ปีที่แล้ว +9

They didn't even need to focus on our solar system. They just needed to lower the amount of systems they made a fair bit.
Have anywhere from 2-3 systems for each faction (Which I believe they have like 2 each iirc, didn't really pay attention to who owned what systems tbh), more fleshed out with unique locations (more than just 0-3 spots that are only generic), and have those spots have a more handcrafted "world" around them to visit with Procedural generated things in between, and make those procedural "dungeons" something that makes sense to have copies of (calling it a Forward Outpost base or w/e), which then at least makes it make sense for being the same building/outpost everywhere, and obviously have a few different iterations/types.
Put in 1-3 zones as more of "contested" space, or just being discovered/explored, so the tension between factions trying to get control of them allows for a story telling of sorts,
Few systems on the fringe for later game things, with again, at least a FEW interesting locations, whether that be scenery or locations,
and from there you're pretty much done. If we take the maximum of the number for each that I mentioned, we're sitting at what, 12 different systems (not including corp factions you join as they don't really have territory in regards to systems, but you could still say something like Ryujin controls a world or two)?
Make it 15 just for argument's sake, that's dramatically less than 100 systems, and now you can condense those occasional Unique type locations in all the other systems to those 15, making it feel more lively and more fun to explore just like that, as planets will have more locations to visit now.
I definitely find Starfield fun, but it definitely didn't push any boundaries either. Sure they added in new things THEY had never done, but nothing that hasn't been seen elsewhere. Here's to hoping future patches and the DLC really flesh out everything more.

I get the thing about turn based gameplay, but after my friend forced me to try Divinity Original Sin 2, after a while i not only found the immersion in the game was amazing, but i even enjoyed the gameplay. Same goes for BG3...
Even though in my mind I had always thought of turn-based gameplay as un-fun, giving it a real chance actually changed my mind.
Opening your mind to other types of gaming experiences can often lead to surprising outcomes.
I had the same experience with Collectible Card Games which I had always found uninteresting, but when at a LAN, I could not play on my gaming rig and had to use a measly laptop, I was forced to give a Hearthstone a try, which I actually ended up enjoying, contrary to my expectation and initial hesitancy.

I'm the dumbest gamer with zero brain function, never got into or played d&d once in my life, and Baldur's Gate is the single greatest gaming experience I've had, ever. It knocks the Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Dragon Age series on their asses. The world, the acting, the story, the freedom and depth - it's so fucking good.
The acting most of all for me is the best. Not only is there completely different dialogue for every choice you make that shapes the entire direction of the conversation (lines themselves reforming to better shape the conversation), but the motion acting is also in place for every line said by every character. They aren't generic movements that every NPC is programmed to perform at random intervals in a conversation to give the illusion of expression. They are captured movements from the actors, completely different in every single scene, making the most realistic and immersive characters I've ever seen in a video game. Even characters I don't like so much I've such an appreciation for.
Baldur's Gate throws the Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Dragon Age series out on their asses. I loved all those series dearly, and yet they don't hold a candle to this game.

i think Morrowind was my first Bethesda game, and while the games have gotten more pretty, it feels like each successive game from Bethesda removes some established interesting mechanic from their respective franchises. if you knew just a little bit about what you were doing in Morrowind you could fly around the world with an item that has a low level levitate enchant, render heavily armed and armored enemies completely immobile with another cheap enchanted item that fires a magic bolt that damages their strength stat, or craft your own spell that creates a mini nuke of poison, fire, cold, AND lightning damage all at once or a spell that made you glow, summoned some monsters, and made all of the NPCs in an area invisible. you could go into any house, building, and/or some dungeons that you wanted and claim it for yourself by killing all of the NPCs inside, and decorating it however you wanted with the items you collected. you could also enchant items or craft potions anywhere as long as you had some basic equipment/components with you.
but then in the next game (Oblivion) you were only allowed to set up a base in specific houses (mostly ones you bought) (anywhere else would despawn all of your stuff after a few days), the ability to outright fly or teleport was taken away, and the ability to create enchanted items that you could use to actively cast spells was taken away, all weapon enchants became cast on striking and anything else you enchanted could only have passive effects and unless you were using a sigil stone you could only enchant at specific enchanting tables. to be fair they did add poisons that could be applied to weapons in this game (which is a very cool feature).
then in Skyrim character stats were entirely removed so you couldn't even make a character that could jump very high, and the few remaining utility spells like hoptoad and water walk were stripped away, the ability to craft enchanted effects using the spells you know was stripped out entirely, and only strictly curated enchanted effects that you copied from SOME (there are many effects you aren't even allowed to copy) other enchanted items could be used. all crafting of any kind is only done at specific crafting locations. an honorable mention goes out to making the conjured weapons weak and useless past mid game levels. again to be fair they did add the ability to craft weapons and armor from raw materials to the game.
in VANILLA Morrowind you had the ability to fly around, nuke entire buildings full of people, and then take up residence in whatever building (and/or some dungeons) that you cleared, and make all manner of crazy magical artifacts, and potions at will and whatever spell you wished with whatever effect you had access to, cast at whatever targets you wished crafted at certain NPCs. all while teleporting around the world.
now in vanilla Skyrim you gain the ability to use poisons on weapons and craft equipment (two very cool features) at the cost of many cool spell effects, the ability to craft interesting unique magical artifacts or spells, the freedom to claim almost any home you wished as your own, and the general ability to fly around and be a demigod in the world.
the fallout series seems to be following a similar trend. it just feels like each new Bethesda game takes one step forward and then actively sprints five to ten steps back.

This is why it feels so alive, and Larian's respect for and tinkering with all of the history that the setting has to offer is a big part of their success.
