The fact the person was trans is actually important for the conversation, because one of the points pushed by DEI is that you need to be part of said group to be able to properly represent them in stories, this person was part of it and as we were shown, the result was subpar at best, which further proves that quality has nothing to do with a person's identity and DEI is not only useless but a detriment.

(They tried to claim 2m but it was leaked shortly after this was a lie) Even at the full $60 price and pretending they don't give Steam or Epic 30% that's still 1.5 x 60 = 90m. Now account that they _DO_ give Steam/Epic 30% and that drops to only 63m. What's 200-63? They need to _triple_ their sales just to break even and there's no way that's happening this far past release. But it's not just the financials killing them. I worked on Dragon Age: Origins as a contractor, and knew many of the founding devs personally. Sad to see a once great studio go the way of the dodo. All the most creative and brilliant people there were laid off, replaced, and then they refused to hire talent outside of DEI directives. Whoever stayed until DA:3 from that crew retired shortly after and that office went to hell. I am proud to have worked with so many talented people there before it all went up in flames. There were a lot of memes floating around the office when EA bought it. The writing was already on the wall back then.

@@LaurenVignec The way Larian handles their development studios now, is how Bioware Edmonton USED to handle things. I'll just leave it at that. If you know, you know.
It's the fate of every video game studio that became very successful in the 90s and early 2000s. It's simple really. People found a studio. They make some really great games that become very popular. They sell the studio, become a public company, or both. The new owner changes leadership. The new leaderships only goal is to maximize profit. They lower pay, increase hours, fire original talent in order to replace them with less experienced employees so they can hire them on at the lowest possible starting wage. They enforce policies that will help them acquire funding from investment firms such as ESG/DEI. Game quality falls to a barely passable minimum. The creative decisions disappear and the games they make are decided by market analytics instead of inspiration. They decide to use the studios previously established IPs to increase likelihood of people buying their next game even though none of the original devs even work there anymore. They make several flops. They lay everyone off. They shutter the company.
Mass Effect always had gay tones if you wanted them, but it was never the main theme. Sexual fluidity can be incorporated into games; however, it should not be the main theme.
Mass Effect, Fallout: New Vegas and Cyberpunk 2077 did it right. Gay tones were there, but the games weren't being obnoxiously in-your-face about it. Most importantly, in those games it felt natural.
Game journalists: Veilguard is Bioware's return to form! *Director quits and studio is shuttered* If this is what a return to form looks like then I wonder what a failure looks like.
Edmonton is their primary studio, Austin basically just exists to keep the lights running for Star Wars: TOR at this point, so if these leaks are true, BioWare is essentially dead, and as a big fan of BioWare who grew up with KOTOR, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age, I couldn't be happier.
Bioware managed to lose both their core fans and any new prospects. Waited for that game for 5 years. Never buying another one and I'm skipping mass effect too. Bioware is already closed down or sold off it just hasn't officially happened yet. It's very sad, that was one of the best studios to ever exist in gaming history.
It’s a shame that instead of game developers trying to resolve issues that gamers complain about, they tell us we’re the problem or up and quit at the first hint of customer dissatisfaction. I’m sad to see this franchise tarnished by lazy game developers.
I'm a game dev. Trust me a lot of us know because we are gamers. However the people in charge are corporate or people chasing promotions. The reason for this is that a lot of game devs just want to make good games and don't really care about promotions or titles. For the low numbers of sales let's keep in mind DA2 was made in a single year (it was supposed to be an expansion pack for DA:O called "Dragon Age : Rise to Power") so it probably made a pretty decent return on investments all things considered

As someone who is working in gamedev, with multiple previous years working in other fields: The "hard" part in game development does not necessarily come from that a task is hard, but rather that there's so many specialties that have to work together, jointly, on the same tasks. Almost always without established guidelines, clear solutions, or instructions, on how to make something work. When building a house as a carpenter, you sort of know what to do at every step. There are established guidelines regarding where you need to give space for electrical stuff. After which you call an electrician to come and sort it out for you. Or when taking care of a patient with a hurting hand, you know where to start looking for causes. So the "hard" aspect is not that the single task, or workload in general, is harder than that in other professions. But just that the pre-established guidelines are not there. Sometimes it works to put your wall socket on the floor, and other times you must put it in the middle of the wall because otherwise it won't work. Or for some reason the nurse decided to just chop off the hand of that patient to make the pain go away.
Yeah... you have to try to work as an application developer for industrial devices. There's an electronics teams, that handful of grisled old hermits in the firmware team, mechanical engineers, 4-5 third parties for specialist equipment like robots, HMIs, sensors and cameras, PLUS whatever your client has decided must interface with your software (they'll always tell you what at the very last minute). Mechanical engineer unilaterally decides that hardware button will be added to the main application instead, because, hey, how hard can it be to add a button. UhOh... Third party's driver isn't compatible with the OS you're using, sorry. There's an obscure open source library that can do it, but you've got no idea how it will interact with everything else (or affect performance). Oh, and on second look, it turns out you actually can't use it because it's GPL-v2 and your code is proprietary. Keep in mind that all of this involves equipment that has the very real possibility of seriously injuring (or k&lling) people if you make a mistake.

"Quit" is a strong word for "forced out so they didn't have to deal with the fallout of firing a trans woman." The game literally lost at _minimum_ $100 million and they're still careful to make sure not to ruffle any woke feathers.
You have evidence of this number?
@@sufnskanne469 Simply look it up and use basic math. It's estimated that it's cost was at _least_ 200m to make which isn't unheard of these days. (Keep in mind it wasn't exactly a small team and it's been in development for a _decade_ so that number is VERY easily believable.)
Then account that it has yet to reach 1.5m copies sold.
When you consider the previous DA sold *12* million copies making over half a billion it doesn't take any math to realize what a *_massive_* disaster this game.

Whoever stayed until DA:3 from that crew retired shortly after and that office went to hell. I am proud to have worked with so many talented people there before it all went up in flames. There were a lot of memes floating around the office when EA bought it. The writing was already on the wall back then.

If there is any good to come out of this, I hope it scares the living daylights out of the team working on the next Mass Effect and they will purge all DEI elements.
At this point we're literally just hoping the cancer doesn't go into remission
Its already a part of their company's policy. They haven't turned back like others. Might as well consider it already dead.
Nope, they will double down. Blame and shame the customer.
I didn't even buy Andromeda. Man I LOVE 1,2 & 3 as well. It just looked so cringe.
Bioware can't make a good ME game, regardless of the elements
This dude really destroyed a great series. Then ran away to ruin another. I can't wait.
Algorithm handed this to me FRESH
Thank you Algorithm
Like a virus leaving its host. A damn parasite
It happened too late. Dragon Age has been hobbled and humiliated; It's like someone coming into your house wrecking the place and leaving with no consequences.
In general it kinda lowered the value of the whole franchise. So even future sales will suffer.
If I were them I would say recon this whole game and go back to the idea of it being about the dreadwolf all about him 100%
There's still a possibility for a proper Dreadwold sequel, but it's no longer the free money printing machine it once was.
@@HDGaminTutorials After wasting a quarter of a billion dollars and only making a couple mil? I know not everyone is good at math but damn! No one that wants to make money is going to want to hand them a dime again. They've shown they CAN'T do it even with all the funding and tech.

OMFG. Taash is a self insert of Corrine Busche. No wonder it sucked.
Pronouns and top scars will not be a thing , you hear us western devs? Money or trans , choose 1.

HEE-HEE!!
Shepard?
Time to do 10 push ups lol.
Now find whoever hired him and fire them all. It would be better for Bioware to go bankrupt than for them to ruin Mass Effect next, as if Andromeda wasn't enough.
As a diehard Mass Effect fan this is kinda devastating if true. There is so much lore around the Edmonton studio (who originally made ME 1, 2 and 3). There’s a reason so many VA’s from Mass Effect were Canadian. Even the end credits music of ME:1 (M4 pt 2) was by local Edmonton group Faunts, who the OG devs would go see live after work.
I know it’s not all the same devs, but a ton of them actually have returned or remain for ME:5. It’s just sad, Bioware: Edmonton used to mean something.
@@KeytarArgonian the failguard team were moved to mass effect
@ I’ve had this conversation so many times. They have moved to SUPPORT the Mass Effect team in Austin. 2 studios. 2 locations. 2 teams. Just like the Mass Effect team were put on hold to help finish Veilguard, like the Edmonton team were paused on Anthem to help fix Andromeda. 2 teams. They often pause to support the other.
Its funny we used to hate EA for shutting down unsuccessful projects but is this the first time they made a good decision ? Kudos to EA, never change
They don't deserve credit for making the right decision after they made a catastrophically wrong one
@@sly9263 The higher ups probably sadly had no clue about their mentally ill delusional trans director ruining their game, lets hope they dont get a job at another big ip now. Or even worse lets hope they dont direct the said upcoming lotr movies if they are real.. Would hate to see black trans gandalf
Nah, the problem is they shut down SUCCESSFUL projects, that's what we didn't like.
EA ruined Bioware to begin with.
@ While EA isnt good, a trans director that forces their shit on the game is way worse
Shows that you know shit about building yyou have people that makes the drawing for how a house should be built i would say that building a house from scratch is exactly as building a game its pretty much the same hiearchy and work loads you have designers you have people that decide where shit so it works etc
if you think most people in construction know about the rules and regulations or even care you haven't worked in that department.
There wouldn't be standing single house if everyone sticks to the rules and your garden shack would prob. cost $2mio.
Thousands of employees with beliefs not compatible with 99% of Earth sat around and said "This is gonna be lit". Unknowingly, they were referring to the bomb in their office, and it just left no survivors.
The world is starting to finally heal... these past 5-8 years have been living hell for gaming/cinema/music industry... It just baffles me how they are taking this long to realise we don't want their political shit in their content.
Crazy how Smash JT is much more of a journalist than any other self proclaimed journo out there
Not really. He has an agenda, and he is emotionally charged. A journalist is supposed to report information, without bias. That being said, he’s doing some great work!!!
Eh, misgendering this person over and over says something about them. I got so confused hearing the name and seeing the person and then “he”. It makes the rest of the very valid criticisms seem really biased.
@@Zzshock77 Every journalist is Biased to some degree. Journalist just needs to say truth, even if it's biased.
@@JaysTVRN He "misgendered" nobody. Corinne is a biological male and thus a "he". That can never change no matter how much he plays make believe. Any "journalist" feeding into these peoples' delusions has reduced credibility. JT did the right thing by sticking to neutral reality.

Destroys a franchise, closes previously beloved studio, peace's out. They seem to be getting their goals of ruining gaming lol
We all know too well, almost all big AAA studios in the west have these people, not also in the developer level, but the executives and those people won't go away unless the ship is sinking
But remember guys: "Top of the charts."
Asmon: It wasn’t a massive loss
Fail guard: Our goal was to sell 7 Million
When you see what the director looks like, it makes SO much sense how the game came out that way. It’s a game for middle aged cat enthusiasts by middle aged cat enthusiasts.

@@ichigokagehe what?!! Why do these ppl destroy everything good 😭 This is like when I found out Han Solo died
@@Killer_Turnip He's dead most of the game even though you sometimes are talking to his ghost but you don't even know he's dead type of twist, until the end. But no matter what you do the choices are illusionary, there are no choices in DA failguard except the one that involves trans/gay issues.
@@MorMacFey-v2gYeah I looked it up as soon as I finished commenting above...man that sucks. And DAI (though I enjoyed playing it) was already a bit cringe with the dialogue and illusion of some choices compared to DAO. Dragon Age was about choice and the consequences of them, but after DAO it seemed pretty watered down each following game with how significant certain outcomes could be (imo). I'm guessing DAV is a lot worse considering their preteen on wattpad dialogue options have been getting memed into oblivion. 😅
Bioware had already announced that DA: Veilguard wouldn't be getting DLCs or added content...and I can only imagine her exit is a major reason why. However, the closure of the Edmonton office is simply speculation until we hear an announcement directly from Bioware.
"Oh no, what happened? Oh no, how terrible! That's just awful, how terrible oh no!"
The DEI loans ran dry after they ruined the IP with the last batch.
"Haha, bye, I'm off to ruin the next studio + IP" 😵💫
As far as not celebrating someone losing their job -- this is absolutely a win worth celebrating. It's come too late, but at least there's visible consequence here. The opportunity cost of Corrine Busche being the Game Director of Dragon Age: Veilguard is that we lost the opportunity for a good Dragon Age game -- maybe forever. The IP is damaged goods now. The Studio (at least a portion) is closing down. Years of time, resource, money, effort -- were squandered on bringing this person's trauma dumping, axe-grinding personal agenda to fruition instead of a marketable, desirable product that could been a beloved success. So ... yea.... Celebrate wildly when this kind of person gets 'moved on to other challenges'.
Normally I wouldn't be happy about such a thing. But these guys brought it upon themselves. Demanding we all pay top dollar to watch them butcher the franchise with cartoonish darkspawn, taking player choice away, disrespecting our past playthroughs and general lore of the series and then shoehorning a bullshit Illuminati in as well.
How is a no talent hack destroying a franchise, and possibly causing an entire studio to fail, only to leave and move on to the next franchise to destroy, a win?
It just got moved to its next target... what is there to celebrate?
@@ichigokage It's a win that he maybe finally realized he and his ideas aren't wanted nor turn a profit. But yeah, the cost to get there was far too great.
