One of the greatest Australian songs of all time, made by the greatest Australian band of all time, I don’t think there’s an Aussie who doesn’t like this masterpiece. Glad to see you liked it, Barnsey has such a great voice that deserves to be heard by everyone 🙌🐐
Best band in the world.. Cold Chisel are considered to be the best band from Australia even in front of fellow Australian bands/acts like AC/DC, INXS, crowded house, Bee gees and silverchair.. Their leas singers name is Jimmy Barnes who also has had a solo career as well and can sing country, rock, blues, soul and pub rock
I saw this band on their 50th anniversary tour 4 days ago. They are my favourite band, and Jimmy Barnes aka Barnsey is my favourite singer. This was from their debut album in 1978. They had already been playing pubs for 5 years at this time. The other band members are Ian Moss aka Mossy on lead guitar. He also sings lead on some songs, but for me the harmonies between Jimmy and Ian are out of this world. Bass is Phill Small, on Piano is Don Walker, and on drums Steve Prestwich who passed on 16th January 2011. RIP Steve. The guy on harmonica that plays with the band (but not formally part of the Fab 5) is Dave Blight. They also have sax on their songs, and have had a multitude of sax players including Joseph Camilleri, Wilbur Wilde and Andrew Bickers. Andy was on the recent tour. This song is truly a song that resonates with us in Australia. They are master musicians. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
One of the best aussie bands ever. The singer here is Jimmy Barnes, or Barnsey. The band had 2 singers, Barnsey and Ian Moss, Mossy. They tried America, were treated badly by a record exec... came home and Jimmy Wrote, You got nothin' I want. Try Bow River, breakfast at sweethearts, Wild Thing and Ian doing Georgia at the last stand tour. 50 years on they put out you gotta move, recently. All the band members wrote great songs.
I noticed your expression when the harmonica kicked in. You made a point of mentioning it. The harmonica player is David Blight, who isn't a band member, but he's a session musician that almost always plays when the band is live in concert (so, an honorary band member). Try Cold Chisel's "Bow River" live performance. You'll be literally blown away.
I saw them in Sydney on the 11th of October first time since 1978 when this song came out i was 16 in 78 most of the people at the concert were my age what a great night it was .This song was banned on the radio back then because of the lines ,Their legs were often open , and the need for speed and Novacane
Check out "When the war is over" from the Ringside tour. This band's whole catalogue is great...two lead singers, every band member writes songs, they've been around since the early seventies, and they cross multiple genres.
There ain't nothing like a cold chisel song. Those guys knew/know how to tell a story and always put their heart and soul into their live shows. So I would recommend you check out their live performances, just anything, even their version of the troggs wild thing, will blow your mind.
Cold Chisel are legends - definitely a significant part of Australian culture. You should check out some other songs like “Flame Trees”, “Bow River”, “When the War is Over”, “You’ve Got Nothing I Want”, “Saturday Night” just to name a few.
yep - you get it welcome to the fun and awesome rockin world of Cold Chisel & Jimmy Barnes (lead singer), Don Walker (main song writer & keyboards) Ian Moss )lead guitar ), Phil Small (bass)and most immportant for the most loved Aussie rock song - writer of this song; -Steve Prestwich (drums): born in Liverpool, UK. : .. Khe Sanh, originally banned from commercial radio for its lyric content ...
I could see by the time the organ solo rose out of the harmonica riffs that you were getting that "sold" look on your face. Yeah, we Aussies feel the same way about one of the best anti-war songs (and there are a few) to come out of Oz. Cold Chisel are a band worth exploring for their great writing and playing.
This is a great song and an Aussie social anthem, but not such a good musical example of the bands musical prowess, nor a great example of Jimmy's vocal talents. This is a live band and best enjoyed live..... Recommend Bow River and When The War Is Over from 2003 re union concert, Wild Thing from 1983 break up tour called The Last Stand, One Long Day and at least another 20 live gems plus a few official video releases of their ballads, like Flame Trees and Forever Now and brilliant Saturday Night....... Nearly forgot.....Ian Mosses Georgia solo from 2003 re union concert.
I agree. A song that was written when the band was young and unrecognised. And they were embarrassed by it later to learn that Australians were never in Khe Sahn.
No no no...cold chisel flame trees music video...cold chisel Saturday night music video..cold chisel when the war is over live...cold chisel you got nothing I want music video..ya goofy m8te from Australia

You nailed it mate. Its about an Australian Vietnam Vet trying to readjust after the war. This song is an unofficial Australian anthem.

@@caro.k2958 it was brilliant, wasn't it.
I'm jealous. Being in the states, I'll never see them. So wish I was there.

Thanks for reacting. It’s a special song to most Australians.
The best Aussie band ever... Cold Chisel songs are loved by multiple generations of Australians 🇦🇺
the smile on your face started to spread when that iconic chorus hit 😄

The "Live" version of BOW RIVER will blow you away!

I saw you smile, mate! It's not really that serious, it's a celebration. That's why Aussies love it.
The singer is Jimmy Barnes. You’ve done him three times before. He’s the main lead singer in Cold Chisel.
Nice reaction. Many reactors use the Official Lyric Video for this one.
Gotta see the live versions
Loved it. Play more Cold Chisel please!
