They opened the SOFAD tour concerts with this, starting off with thunder and lightning in a blacked-out arena - utterly jaw-dropping. Fantastic and criminally underrated song ...

It would be cool to watch him react to any of the devotional tour videos. The best...

I saw depeche mode 33 times from 1988 till last spirit tour and head and shoulders above 1993 opening, stage and arrange was far away best

It was the best show opener ever since in my opinion! Just EPIC!

I love this song. The whole album 'Songs of Faith and Devotion' is AMAZING!!! Try 'Rush' next

Let's face it. DM probably have less than a handful of dodgy songs. They're pretty much all amazing. Listening to Higher Love is akin to a religious experience for me.

They are so good live. I have seen them five times. This was the opening song for this tour.

No need to speak during the song, your smile at the end of it tells more than any word can express ;)
    This album is so underrated

This was when Alan Wilder was a member of the band. Musically that man was so talented and this song (amongst many) shows how good he was.

    • @ahmo2

Yeah, if you listen to Martin Gore´s demos, you can hear he is a good song writer but Alan Wilder arranged those song into whole new level.

Try one the live videos from the Devotional tour in support of this album. Higher love was the opening track and still to date their best opening to a tour. I would hope to know as I've been to each tour since 1987.

    A masterpiece ...

In my memory Daniel Lanois was the in the prodution of this record. He was passing many sounds thrue a newly marketed ZOOM multi effect pedal and this give this particular piano distorted grainy sound that we hear all around and in reverse. This is truly amazing. I alway thinked that this DM record should have set a new standard in pop sound.... but read me well ...it could’nt be achieve without a big amount of time... and trial and error process. Something that usual producers don’t have....or permit. For all those reasons this record is a master peace IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLICATE. LIKE PROPAGANDA SECRET WISH, PINK FLOYD WISH YOU WHERE HERE, GENESIS THRICK OF THE TAIL ETC.... This track sound stage defi imagination. The emotional progression is perfect. The wall of sound is plenty, but again clear. Not a single sound is dry alone, every sound is effected, grainy distorted but in his right place. Gore is genius Lanois is a master.

      No, Flood produced the album

    • @Garylpool1
      @Garylpool1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

The producer for this song was Flood. Martin Gore created the songs demo but it was Alan Wilder who created the music, the atmosphere and the special effects that made this song (along with a great deal more) so good. He may have left DM but he will never be forgotten and true DM fans will always be thankful for what he did musically for the band.

As I said earlier in the Home video, Higher love is also the kind of music that hypnotizes and takes you beyond the place where you are This is Depeche Mode. thank You!

This is a spiritual song, "Higher" love is not a person-to-person love. Giving yourself over to a greater purpose, opening to universe, etc. all recurring themes for Martin Gore.

Since you’re checking out 80s post punk I suggest you look at the cure absolutely awesome music Robert Smith is a genius lyrically vocally and pretty damn good on guitar I had some fantastic 3 1/2 minute song hits and occasionally when they play live they would go off like you wouldn’t believe. I like Depeche Mode they were great but the care is 100 times better in my opinion and if you want to hear something awesome do a reaction to this song titled. ‘a forest’. make sure you do the live version pretty sure it was 199to Wembley stadium trust me song Starts slow and eventually goes crazy and the cure had a great keyboardist drummer and a bass player who is absolutely off the hook and he ends this song going crazy

Love the fact, that someone reacts to DM's less known songs. However (and unfortunately) it lacks signifficant details, rather than simply "lyrics", "music in general" and "feel". By that I mean sound engineering, music production and mixing, songwriting and arrangement. So sad nodoby reacts to DM on youtube from that perspective.

Underneath all DM songs, however dark they are, there is always an element of light, acceptance and optimism. If you don't get that, you don't get DM.
